About

GREG LASWELL IN CONCERT:

San Diego native Greg Laswell is a dynamic indie singer-songwriter who’s been wowing audiences since making his debut in 2006 with Through Toledo. Audiences can’t help but be moved when he sings popular tunes like "Comes and Goes (In Waves)" alongside covers of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" and others during his chilled-out shows. Laswell is a dynamic performer who can pull on fans' heartstrings with his passionate tunes and also have them bursting with laughter when he delivers witty banter between songs. Known for bringing out special guests on tour -- including his wife and fellow collaborator Ingrid Michaelson -- Laswell always delivers a show full of surprises and sentiment whenever he takes the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Greg Laswell got his start in 1998 as the frontman of the band Shillglen, achieving moderate success a year later with their debut Sometimes I Feel. After the band broke up in 2001, Laswell decided to pursue a solo career as a singer-songwriter and recorded and released his breakout full-length LP Good Movie (2003), which won Best Local Recording at the San Diego Music Awards. He followed up with 2006's Through Toledo -- an album that resonated with fans and featured the popular tune "Sing, Theresa Says". He's toured around the world as a supporting act for occasional collaborators Sia and Ingrid Michaelson, and he’s headlined several sold-out shows of his own. Since the release of Through Toledo Laswell has recorded four more acclaimed albums, had his music featured in numerous films and television shows, and become widely known within the underground indie scene. His powerful, must-see live performances are perfect for fans of emotive acoustic music, witty humor, and impeccable musicianship.

    Greg Laswell rocked again!

by Luckeon on 6/21/12Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Amazing performance vocally and instrumentally. Greg Laswell alternated new song with old favorites and really brought his best to the stage. The unplugged performance of "Landline" was fantastic!

    I love this man.

Greg Laswell is one of the most talented musicians around, and he proves it every time I see him live. Not only does he sound great, but his stage presence is outstanding. He cracks jokes between songs, opens up to the audience to tell stories, and really makes a connection with everyone there. This show in particular, he played a good mix of old and new songs, and played for almost 2 hours. Not to mention he brought along a cello player and the talented Elizabeth of Elizabeth & The Catapult. I would recommend that everyone see at least one Greg Laswell show in their life. He is the best.

    The show was great!

by lamomok on 6/21/12Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Brighton Music Hall was a great venue: spacious, not overcrowded, and nice and airy, considering that it was a rather warm night. Great and friendly bartenders. And of course, the show was incredible. Elizabeth and the Catapult was a fitting opening act and gave a really solid performance. And Greg Laswell was great at working the crowd - the music was great all round. I had an awesome time.

The music and voices were good. The venue is a great place for a show. The best parts of the show were the moments when the volume of the music was lower so that the quality singing voices could be better appreciated.

    Greg Laswell and Harper Blynn

by scdxii on 11/20/10RED ROOM AT CAFÉ 939 - Boston

The night started out with NYC-based band Harper Blynn. I have hear nothing but good things about these guys for months and I'm so glad I finally got to catch them while they were on the road in Boston. Power-pop ballads and slower songs were all in the mix on Thursday night, and the highlight of their set was definitely a hilariously incredible cover of Beyonce's 'Halo'. Greg was up next, and Harper Blynn was his backing band. This was my third time seeing Greg and he has never been a disappointment. This show was no exception to that as he gave the crowd a killer set. Laswell's banter is always a highlight for me; it's almost like getting a concert and a comedy show in one night. Stories of hearing his songs on My Sister's Keeper and other fun tales were sprinkled between his hits and newer songs. An overall awesome night of music. Can't wait to see all of them back in Boston again soon.

Greg Laswell is larger than life. If you aren't moved by his music than you have no soul. Also, super friendly, he wanted to get to know his fans after the show. SOOOO GOOOOD!

Greg Laswell and Harper Blynn are AMAZING!

    by Violizer87 on 11/8/10Bluebird Theater - Denver

Every note, every chord, every line of prose was brilliantly executed by Greg Laswell and his band, Harper Blynn. I have to admit, I'm not usually much for opening acts, but these guys (Harper Blynn) were incredible! It took me all of about three songs to be sold on buying both of their albums. They have a talent that is rare to find in the music scene today. Definitely recommend Harper Blynn for anyone who hasn't heard of them. Greg Laswell, of course, brought his usual A-game to the stage. His voice soared perfectly over the melodies. No matter who was in the audience, you felt what he wanted you to feel. He's an outstanding musician that deserves all the fame he can possibly attain. Don't EVER miss him when he comes back to Denver. He's truly an inimitable force in music today. A very, very solid A+++!!

    Greg Laswell at the Basement

by musicisawesome on 11/1/10The Basement - Columbus

This was my second time seeing Greg Laswell in concert and he puts on a great show. He played songs from all of his 3 albums and told some funny anecdotes in between. He also has a good sense of humor about the audience and was willing to take pictures and sign autographs after the show. I'm giving the show 4 out of 5 stars just because he didn't play as many songs as he did when I saw him perform last spring. If you are a fan of his music, go see him live! Also enjoyed the opening act Harper Blynn. They do an awesome cover of Halo.

Greg was even better this time than the last time I saw him. He is funny during his shows and is entertaining all around. The band was great too and I definitely will be looking forward to seeing him again in the future

    Greg Laswell - Harper Blynne

by MonkeyMuffin on 7/13/108x10 - Baltimore

Harper Blynne, opening band and house band for the rest of the evening, were amazing! Serious skills in songwriting, guitar and drums. Rad vocals. Would definitely see again and buy CD. Carey Brothers.... kind of boring. Yawned a lot during this performance. Has a potty mouth. Greg Laswell - never, ever disappoints. Wonderful show. My only complaint was that the sound was so loud that I could barely hear the vocals. For such a small venue, there's no need to blast it. Everyone around me was holding at least one ear shut several times throughout the night. It would be much more enjoyable if we could hear everything rather than it melding into one cacophony.

    Greg Laswell rocks

by JVMMMMMMMM on 7/8/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Never heard of Haper Blynn but they were incredible. Rocked the house and provided great support throughout the night. Didn't much care for Cary Brothers. Greg Laswell is my new obsession. He was laidback, funny and fun. I'd go see him again in a second. I expected Music Hall to be packed but the crowd was sparse and I would have liked to see more people come out and support them all.

    Greg Laswell at Paradise

by kidglove11 on 5/31/10Paradise Rock Club - Boston

After a long laboring country influenced set by Greg's lead guitar player, and a far-too long set by Jimmy Gnecco (who sings brilliantly, sort of Bono-esque with greater range), Greg came on stage while some folks sitting in their chairs were shaking off sleep. Lucky for us, Greg was fantastic, opening up with "Off I Go" and then driving into "That it Moves" which was like a drug to those of us who have slow-danced with our partners to 3 Flights From Alto Nido. He went into "Take Everything" which really rocked out. He did a kick ass solo set which included the very weird version of Girls Just Want to Have Fun (would've been nice if he had picked "Women's Work" from Covers instead) and one of my faves, Comes and Goes (in waves). Would've like to have heard "Its been a year" as well, but I say that within the following context: this was my favorite show of the year. One can feel free to indulge in the emotion in the songs because Greg injects a great deal of levity into the show with humor. Greg is funny and personable with the audience, and even dealt with a crazy patron with finesse and charm...even if temporarily forgetting the lyrics. This will be the first of many shows for me. Highly reccomend it for anyone.

Greg Laswell was amazing! He performed most of the songs from his latest album but threw in some older songs. I could listen to his voice all day long and would completely recommend this show to anyone.

The venue was intimate, small and accessible. The staff nice and the tickets were cheap. And Greg Laswell was amazing as usual and even came out afterwards to say hello and sign autographs. Overall amazing night!

GL great! But too late and awful opening act

by Wave2 on 5/28/10Paradise Rock Club - Boston

GL was, is and always will be great! BUT starting at 11pm during the week? C'mon! GL's audience does not consist of young college kids who can sleep in the next day... I got home by 1:30am.... totally sleepy today... leaves a bad taste of the show. Also, the first opening act was great, fits perfectly to the sound of GL! But the second? Jesus! I had two friends with me who left before GL even got on stage. People I was surrounded by were not amused either by the late appearance of GL and especially the second opening act. Complains everywhere... that just ruined the night we were looking for so long! Too bad.
