Great Big Sea was the best!

by Malu1 on 7/21/13Riverside Festival Site - Rochester

Having grown up in Newfoundland,my husband and I try to see them whenever they are cross the border close to where we live now in northern Pennsylvania. We had never been to this venue and I'm glad we did as we were able to get right up to the front! The boys were energetic from the beginning to the end, even though the crowd was smaller than what they experience in Canada. But they began in pubs in St. John's twenty years ago and so it is not a surprise that they are very comfortable in the more personal venues. I hope they come again next year! We had a great time and we will be sure to check out the 2014 season lineup.

Great Big Sea put on a great show, as usual.

by DonQuixote109 on 7/21/13Riverside Festival Site - Rochester

This was our second Great Big Sea Concert in Rochester - we have all of their CD's, and bought GBSXX pre-release boxed set as a birthday present for my wife last Octoberr. The night was HOT - weather was in 90's all week. Sisters of Murphy from Rochester was a lot of fun to listen to and made a great first act. I wish them well in their endeavors. Carbon Leaf from Richmond, VA had an interesting mix of music - and were a little more energetic than Sisters of Murphy - evidence of their being a bit more established and a higher rock content. Then there is Great Big Sea - with their eclectic mix of Bawdy and not "Irish" ballads and their own brand of Rock. In his book, Bob Hallet speaks of the influence that Punk had on them - I missed the Punk "generation" - or don't remember it being anything like GBS. We've been listening to them for a long time - I miss the early You Tube videos of their concerts - when they signed with Warner Music Group, they created "Official" Music Videos and WMG had the other videos that had hundreds of thousands of views removed due to copyright infringement. That was too bad, because they gave their budding fan base a great sampling of the guys live. The Official Videos can be too slick and out of sync with who the guys really seem to be sometimes.

    The Perfect Combination

by Anonymous on 7/21/13Riverside Festival Site - Rochester

We had a great time. Great Big Sea and Carbon Leaf are the perfect combination.Sisters of Murphy was a great local choice to open for the two bands. It was a really hot night and there was very little relief from the sun in the big open lot of the Riverside Festival site. I was happy that I paid a little extra for seats which were in the shade.

    Great Big Sea

by rmcdbiker on 7/19/13Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Second time out to see these guys. A great time. Like a big kitchen party. I love that Sean looks and dresses like he's my neighbor who just came out to mow the lawn and will chat over a beer.

    Great Big Sea

by Artnerd on 7/12/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Really one of the best live concerts I've ever seen. Speaker problems during the first half didn't slow the boys down at all. They played some quieter songs including the wonderful 'Old Brown's Daughter' as to not stress the ailing speaker. After the intermission, the show really took off with songs that rocked the house. I can't wait to see them again.

    GBS Music in the Zoo

by HarryMIowa on 7/11/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The air was still, and the temp was warm, but the open-air concert at the Minnesota Zoo was a good time. During the first set, the sound system was flaky, but GBS responded by doing a couple a cappella numbers without mics & leading the crowd in a tune or two. GBS is one of my favorite bands & was great to see them on their 20th anniversary tour. I do wish they would have sung "General Taylor," but the tunes they did perform were a blast. GBS shows that they are a bunch of guys who love what they do.

    Great Big Sea

by 1245RD on 7/11/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple Valley

This group did a great job once their blasting speakers went out. The vocalists have amazing voices and it was wonderful to be able to hear them harmonize and sing some cool songs from their roots. The blasting rock and roll stuff in the beginning of the concert...just sounded like any other group trying to be loud and cool. Not only was that part bad but we had to stand through most of it. If this group did an acoustic tour and sang some of the great songs they performed later in the concert...I would go ten times more and recommend it to all my friends.. Too bad a group with so much talent just wants to follow the pack of LOUD and hide their skills.

Great Big Sea put on a fabulous show.

by zeeky27 on 7/11/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The show was very energetic and awesome in general. I have to admit the acoustic songs while the speakers were being rebooted were fabulous. It made me hope they wouldn't come back up!

Great Big Sea - Great Big Success!

by Piperlinda on 7/11/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Great Big Sea, as always, gave their audience their money's worth ... and then some!! They even managed to make a slight glitch with a speaker in the first half of the concert something fun, funny and entertaining! An outdoor concert, it was hot, it was humid and sticky ... but it didn't matter -- it was great and it was fun!! A good mix of old familiar GBS tunes and newer ones made for a great performance! They are celebrating their 20th year ... we're hoping for at least 20 more! Thank you, Great Big Sea!!

Fantastic show. The group dealt with speaker issues with humor and class. Good venue, great crowd, and the best group I have seen in years.

    great big sea, amazing!

by clibb on 5/25/13Brandt Centre - Evraz Place - Regina

It was awesome. i loved the small venue that I had with this concert. I know they aren't all like this, but the one at the brandt center was good.. They played two sets. A nice mix of ballads and not.. Great Big Sea knows how to get the crowd involved. I'd go again for sure!

gbs awesome, venue a little less so

    by mwc2 on 4/30/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

gbs were their regular awesome and energetic selves. add that it was the 20th anniversary tour and how determined they were to show solidarity with boston after the bombings and the suspect chase that shut down half the state, they were a sight for sore eyes and ears! the venue... i have nothing but good things to save about the people working there - they were all very helpful and nice. i imagine it was a little crazy with a sold out show and yet they totally kept their cool. my biggest issue with the venue was the sound in the balcony area. i don't know if it was badly set up equipment or lack of sound testing, but 75% of the show sound was pretty distorted up there. i knew most of the songs, so i knew what was being said/sung?, but the person who came with me and was new to gbs couldn't understand almost anything most of the night. a little frustrating. i would either recommend wilbur look into the sound or gbs seek another venue - it isn't a good match for the two without some changes.

    What is going on?

    by BSN83 on 4/29/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

I have been to several GBS concerts but this one leaves me feeling flat and sad. Is there trouble between the band members because it is palpable. Sorry.

This band is amazing! You can tell they are genuinely nice guys. They have been together forever and they will make you want to go hang out with them at the pub after the concert. Just fun. And great for many ages and a diverse crowd!

Great Big Sea is always a great show!

    by statefan01 on 4/26/13State Theatre - Portland

The group was first introduced to my husband and me when they performed at L.L.Bean. Since then, we have seen them 4 times. Usually we have to travel a distance so it was nice to have them in Portland, Maine. They never disappoint us!
