  • beautiful!

Absolutely beautiful experience! Top notch performance! Wanted to see LOTR in concert for almost 20 years and finally it happened!

  • Mind blowing

Watching Lord of the Rings with a live orchestra and choir was one of the greatest things I have ever experienced

  • Transcendent, Mesmerizing, and Soul-filling

by Abbie on 10/28/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

I went to the Grand Rapids Symphony to see their October Hans Zimmer concert, and it far exceed my expectations. From the scores themselves which were replicated with sheer mastery, to the skill and talent of the orchestra, and to their guest vocalist who brought the pieces to life, this concert had me in tears and transported me into the films they played from. It was the best experience of my life. I would highly reccomend this Symphony to anyone and everyone. This Symphony captured perfectly the genius of Hans Zimmer and the beauty of live performance. Thank you for an unforgettable evening.

  • Conductor commentary

by JoJo on 9/29/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was wonderful, but the conductor’s political commentary before the second half of the performance greatly detracted from it. Let the music speak for itself!

  • Magnificant Performance

by Mike on 9/16/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

This is my 3rd time attending a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This time I brought my 2 daugthers and 3 of my oldest grandchildren. We sat front row center at the Saturday night performance. We were absolutely blown away! 2 of my grandchildren had never attended the symphony before, and they were as thrilled as I was. The youngest grandchild attended the GRSO earlier this year to see the performance of Pictures at an Exhibition. But she was not prepared for the intensity and beauty of the 9th! The soloists were amazing! And sitting that close, I was not prepared for the play of the string section! Many of the notes played required plucking the strings with fingers instead of using the bow. That was a joy to watch from up close! Overall, I give high marks to the orchestra, the chior, and conductor! GRSO may not have the resources of the Chicago or New York orchestras, but GRSO stacks up with the best of them! I hope that I have encouraged my grandchildren with a love of the symphony and that they will return on their own. If their reaction to this performance was an indication, they will return. Keep up the great work!

  • Mixed.

by Mama Lodde on 9/16/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

The choir was excellent. The bass soloist was fine and you could hear him. The tenor was inaudible in his solos sung above the choir, which are his places to shine. The women were inaudible most of the time. The soprano, when she attempted her glory note above the choir, was wobbly and under pitch. When you could hear the mezzo, it was a lovely voice, but way too small for the hall. Perhaps using microphones would help. Having sung the Ninth in NYC, Philadelphia, and Boston with Bernstein, Ormandy, and Ozawa, I was hoping for tier one soloists. I was in the second row of the Mezzanine, so should have been able to hear the everything well. Perhaps bringing the soloists to audition in the hall and listening to them from the mezzanine or balcony would be helpful.

  • The symphony was wonderful and the venue great!

by Tricia on 7/25/25Millennium Park - WalkerRating: 3 out of 5

I was expecting more of a Broadway Review, so I admit to feeling disappointed in the performance. The vocalists were both exceptionally talented, but my expectations were not met, so I guess that’s on me!

  • It was a wonderful show, we enjoyed it !

Loved the music of the symphony along with watching the Star Wars movie. Also appreciate getting the link from Ticketmaster on my phone right to the mobile tickets.

  • Amazing symphony with an amazing movie.

by Amadeus on 5/7/25Van Andel Arena - Grand RapidsRating: 3 out of 5

The Grand Rapids Symphony is a beautiful experience with and outstanding performance. This coupled with Star Wars projected on a giant screen behind them was phenomenal. Unfortunately, the seating was foldout chairs so tightly packed that the gentleman on one side and my wife on the other had to sit awkwardly along with me through the whole performance. (the chairs are locked together so there is no opportunity to shift or adjust). We are not large people either. Furthermore, the level of the seating is so low (Row F Center) and the stage so high that we quite literally could only clearly see the first two rows of the orchestra (All strings) with no ability to see the horns, drums, woodwinds, etc.. John Williams is strong with horns and not being able to see them was tragic. The cost of these seat tickets was so high that this level of discomfort and poor viewing is reprehensible. The staff were cordial, helpful, and professional. The Performance was outstanding. The movie, of course, was great. The Experience, however, was disappointing due to discomfort and poor visibility. (Also one speaker on the left up there was rattling and I feel like the sound guys should have fixed that, as a rattle in the audio of symphony is jarring to say the least)

  • Epic!

by T.B. on 5/7/25Van Andel Arena - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

We loved watching Star Wars in Concert. The music was perfectly timed to the movie and the performance was incredible. Fantastic experience for the whole family.

  • Carmina Burana Bravo

by NancyL on 4/30/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

The last time I went to the GR Symphony was for Carmina Burana about eight years ago. The orchestra performance has markedly improved and I really enjoyed the soloists, especially the flutist and the percussion section. The chorus was terrific and vocal soloists were excellent. I truly enjoyed some of the lightness of the program, especially the tenor. My only suggestion and I don't know if this was due to the large chorus is that adding levels for the orchestra so that it is easier to view the soloists, especially the brass and wind instruments. We were in Orchestra seating and it was hard to see the soloists.

  • Fun night

by Nick on 4/15/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

The music was incredible. The commentary from the director was great. Staff was friendly overall a great night. Only complaint is they only had one drink station open for the whole theater.

  • Hogwarts

The concert was fantastic! The music accompanied by info on each selection made for a memorable experience.

  • Wish I would have known…

by Sarah on 3/30/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 2 out of 5

This concert was very well done. But. I purchased tickets as a gift for my 14 year old son and I wish I would have known some of the games that they would be showcasing. He was hoping for classics like Mario or Zelda and many of the games shown were for a much older demographic. Some of the content of the games was very dark in nature and I wish there was more information provided before tickets were purchased.

  • Take me out to the ball game

by Rick on 3/18/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time attending an event at this venue. The performance hall is very beautiful and well maintained. The staff is super friendly. The orchestra put on a great performance with many sport themed selections. My son sings with the Great Lakes chorus so it’s always special to support him and the members of the chorus. I had the opportunity to speak to several of the bass players and let them know how much I had enjoyed the evening.

  • Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto

  • Phenomenal

This is one of the best shows I’ve seen. I love the music played by the symphony but the singers were over the top amazing!! I was impressed that each singer played their part perfectly and had wonderful voices!

  • Disney songs are never out of style

by TB on 1/21/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

I purchased the tickets for this concert at least a couple months in advance (but didn't realize the schedule would conflict with a certain football team from Detroit and their playoff game :)) As it turned out, the football game would have been a waste to watch, so the concert was the best choice after all. And it was great! The orchestra was superb as always. With the addition of the 4 outstanding vocalists, along with video that corresponded on a large screen - it was an exceptional experience. The Disney songs are mostly very well known, but they were brought to life Saturday night. Both of us are quite happy that we attended.
