The tenor was inaudible in his solos sung above the choir, which are his places to shine. The women were inaudible most of the time. The soprano, when she attempted her glory note above the choir, was wobbly and under pitch. When you could hear the mezzo, it was a lovely voice, but way too small for the hall. Perhaps using microphones would help. Having sung the Ninth in NYC, Philadelphia, and Boston with Bernstein, Ormandy, and Ozawa, I was hoping for tier one soloists. I was in the second row of the Mezzanine, so should have been able to hear the everything well. Perhaps bringing the soloists to audition in the hall and listening to them from the mezzanine or balcony would be helpful.
