Recently attended a performance of Snow White by the Grand Kyiv Ballet at the Paramount in Seattle.
Honestly, I was really disappointed by the show, especially with all the advertising (and even a pre-show announcement moments before the production started) stating how impressive the show is. The reality is that the Grand Kyiv’s production of Snow White is similar to a community theater production. From set design (garish lighting) to costumes (homemade or off-the-shelf costuming), the production falls short. Additionally, the dancing was inconsistent across the company.
If you’re used to high caliber ballet performances, such as the Royal Opera, NYC, or Bolshoi, then the Grand Kyiv will not stack up. However, if you’re looking to introduce young kids to the ballet, the simple, fun storyline of Snow White might be a perfect way to spend a couple hours.
