About

Born in Waitsfield, VT, Grace Potter grew up in a family that encouraged her artistic pursuits in areas from music to theater, the latter of which she was studying at St. Lawrence University when drummer Matt Burr heard her singing at an open-mike night in 2002 and asked if she would form a band with him. She declined, but when her high-school friend and bass player Courtright Beard enrolled in their college, she reconsidered the invitation, and the three of them began to write and perform jazz-influenced songs, Potter also taking duties on the Hammond B-3. Soon, guitarist Scott Tournet joined, and the bandmembers, calling themselves Grace Potter & the Nocturnals -- thanks to their late-night practice habits -- began to think seriously about making music their careers. When Burr graduated in 2003, they decided to move back to Vermont to some land that Potter's parents owned and dedicate themselves more fully to their craft, replacing Beard (who chose to stay at school) with Bryan Dondero in the process. In 2004 they self-released their debut, Original Soul, receiving positive response and comparisons to artists like Norah Jones and early Bonnie Raitt. This in turn garnered major-label offers, but the band preferred to build its fan base by constant touring and festival appearances. Word of their electric performance spread, and shortly after their second album, Nothing But the Water -- also self-released -- came out in 2005, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals signed to Hollywood Records, with their third full-length, This Is Somewhere, hitting shelves nationwide in August 2007. In 2010, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals was released; Hollywood pulled out all the stops in order to break the band internationally. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi

It was an amazing show and I loved my seats that were so close to the stage. It was also awesome that Grace was allowed to call everyone up to get as close to the stage as they could!

I have been following Grace for over 4 years. Amazing then and still amazing. When I heard she was coming back to town after performing with the Rolling Stones I knew I had to see this show.

Lake Street Dive and Grace Potter were phenomenal!

by Liasnan on 8/5/15Thompson's Point - Portland

My husband and I had such an incredible time at this concert, this was our third time seeing Grace Potter and they never disappoint. The venue was fabulous! Loved the food trucks and the beer was great! It was a beautiful summer night; just perfect for an outdoor concert. We will definitely go there again. We wouldn't pay to park though as $20 is way too much for parking in our opinion.

    Perfect in Everyway

    by Redbarn19 on 8/4/15Thompson's Point - Portland

Take a perfect Maine summer night, a full moon, Lake Street Dive, Grace Potter, Thompson's Point and fireworks!!! It could not have been a better experience. Thompson's Point is an outdoor venue so weather is a huge factor but that night it was unbelievable. Lawn seating, everyone was polite and respectful and into having a good time - they send you an info sheet before the concert and they say no bad attitudes allowed. Lake St. Dive was Ah-mazing as usual. Grace Potter rocked the entire Point. Music was epic. Especially the encore of Rachel from LSD and Grace Potter singing together. Beer was cold, tacos were yummy. Getting out was the only slight drawback - one road out and it took a little while. Otherwise - epic show!

This show was truly one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Grace Potter has such a fabulous voice, her lyrics are will written, the guitars and two drums are excellent, and her energy level is just unbelievable.

    great venue

by ganjajohn on 8/4/15Thompson's Point - Portland

south st dive was best opening act ive seen in awhile - Grace was rock solid!! stage, lighting and overall production of shows, excellent.... the venue itself needs more food trucks/food stations with some regular fare - lines literally 100+ people deep lasted thru the night and food ran out....more than enough beer and wine stations...
