GRACE JONES IN CONCERT:

When it comes to multi-hyphenate icons, legendary Jamaican performer Grace Jones stands alone. Singer, actress, model, fashion plate, Bond girl – Jones has done it all with a singular artistic vision that continues to mesmerize and enthrall as she enters her fifth decade as a performer. From her days as an androgynous disco diva to her reign as queen of the new wave and beyond, Jones has remained at the vanguard of music and fashion trends, collaborating with the best producers and designers from both fields to build a legacy of cutting-edge music and visual style that is unquestionably her own. At her incredible live performances Jones is known for stalking the stage with her signature scowl and striking severe poses in outré stagewear while she coos and purrs in her sultry contralto voice over rhythmically seductive classics like "Pull Up to the Bumper" and "I've Seen That Face Before." From the elaborate stage design to the multiple costume changes, Jones pulls out all the stops, delivering a once-in-a-lifetime concert experience that will make even the most casual fan a "Slave to the Rhythm."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Grace Jones was born and raised in Spanish Town, Jamaica before moving to New York with her family at age 13. She was picked on in high school for her skinny frame, but at age 18 she signed a modeling contract with Wilhelmina and moved to Paris. After rising to the top of the city's fashion scene and appearing on the covers of Vogue and Elle, she signed to Island Records and released 1977's Portfolio, a collection of disco covers of Broadway classics like "Send in the Clowns" and "Tomorrow." Jones released two more disco albums in the late '70s, but by the early '80s she had moved on to the sounds of reggae and new wave. Her 1981 album Nightclubbing was a global success, cracking the Top 10 in five countries thanks to hits like "I've Seen That Face Before" and "Pull Up to the Bumper." In 1982 she released A One Man Show, a long-form music video collaboration with director Jean-Paul Goude that introduced her striking visual style to the MTV generation and earned her a Grammy nomination. Mainstream acting gigs followed, including a role opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1984 film Conan the Destroyer and a coveted Bond girl role in 1985's A View to Kill. Her chart success continued in the late '80s with the albums Slave to the Rhythm and Island Life, but by the '90s Jones was focused primarily on acting. She revived her music career after a nearly 20-year studio hiatus in 2008 with Hurricane, an acclaimed return to form produced by Ivor Guest. Since then Jones has continued to do what she does best: slay in concert with epic performances that live up to her outsized reputation.

by Nebuer on 6/4/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Out of all the venues Ms Grace Jones graced us with her talent, The Hammerstein Ball room best suits her range of power and allows her to get as up-close and personal as she cares to be. This venue brings Ms. Grace Jones and fans a level of intimacy unmatched by any other place in New York City. The adoration of this tour de force Offen rivals most acts now a days which can't compare when it comes the loyalty that fans provide especially at the great Hammerstein Ball Room NYC. Sincerely Speaking Please continue to have Them return while fans continue to support Her as well as this Terrific place of business.

    Great show, sadly no encore

by mr. rob on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Grace Jones did not disappoint. She brought the drama, costumes, humor, and incredible voice. The band and backup singers were fantastic. There was no opening act and the show started late, which is why I believe there was no encore. I was very disappointed. I am still very excited to have got to attend one of her concerts and would recommend any fan who has the opportunity go for it.

    Grace Jones

by Elda on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Love her and I was super excited to see her but ha ing to wait an hour and a half to see her was just way to much time. It ruined the show for me. I paid for two tickets and only saw her sing 5 sings cause I had to go to work. Never doing that again.

    Oversold and Overcrowded

by Stephen on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Grace Jones Was Excellent… However Ticketmaster oversold this concert. I had GA and had to wait almost around the whole building to get into the main entrance. As soon as I got through the door,,, that was it… I could not move. I wasn’t even on the floor, I was in the walkway to the bathroom and to get upstairs. Could barely see anything and was constantly pushed or shoved by people either trying to get to the floor, which they really couldn’t, or by people getting drinks. It was a horribly oversold event for a concert.

    Loved the show but

by K. L. on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Obviously Grace Jones was magnificent. She is an amazing performer with powerful voice and killer dancing skills. But getting to the venue wasn’t a great experience. It took forever to get inside with long line around the block. When we get to the gates it made sense why the line was so long. The crew (nothing against them, they are just doing their job) thoroughly went through everyone’s bags looking for chewing gums, vapes. There was nothing on the ticket that would notify about these rules. I had my vape with me that I just bought the day earlier and it got confiscated and thrown to garbage can with no option to put it in coat check. I don’t think that’s right. My vape helps with my anxiety.

    Grace was Grace ....

by David C. on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

She made a dramatic entrance, and then (a) proceeded to sing many of her best-known songs while (b) chatting to the audience in between. She seemed to enjoy it all, and talked about experiencing a "sea of love" when the audience sang Amazing Grace to her. 5 stars for her : ) I'd also say that it was a little too crowded and the standing room area was flat, so the venue wasn't that comfortable unless you were tall. View was obscured for a fair bit of the concert by passing people, tall people, many folks holding up phones.

    Not great!

by D on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Paying a lot of money for a ticket and not have a seat assigned and told when you get there it's first come first served? Not cool and wrong!

    Concert was amazing !

by Yo1nyc on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Great concert and good venue but at the entrance door, they took all vape pipes and lighters and candies and eye drops ! Not sure why? I understood no smoking policy but they have no right to steal our belonging!

    Amazing!

by Joey on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Wow! What a show! At 75 Ms Grace Jones has not lost any of her multitude of talents; voice just as strong and still strutting in those high heels. She did not take a break. Danced and performed so many favorites. The energy of the people on line waiting to go in was palpable. We were so excited and couldn’t wait to see her. She did not disappoint, exceeded expectations. Just an incredible performance. I’m writing this review 3 days later and I can’t get the songs out of my head neither have I stopped looking at my pictures and videos that I took as well as what’s on Utube. We absolute love Grace Jones and what she represents and stands for. A unique human being. What a privilege to see her live!

    Love Grace

by J. S. on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Very good to see Grace The venue is terrible because it means wait in line for literally two hours. It’s that or come to the door after the line is gone but then you miss almost half the concert. In case the venue is in the business of getting people into their concert hall, they would do well to repair their broken entrance process.

    Never again

by Nick on 6/3/23Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

I love Grace and have seen her perform for decades but if this sloppy cheap embarrassing offering is the bay she can do it’s time to retire. Started an hour late (typical) she maybe finished 2 songs, babbled incoherently, and finally ending with her alone on stage lights up tying to introduce the band who had left the stage because she had gone over, a lot of the concert was her having the audience song because apparently she couldn’t be bothered or was too stoned to figure out how. If you have opportunity to see this icon before: Don’t.

Besides a claustrophobic Hammerstein Ballroom experience,Grace Jones brought so much art pop rock to her perfect performance!
