Gov’t Mule stormed the jam band scene in 1994 with a bluesy blend of Southern rock. Guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody originally formed the band as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band. Gov’t Mule's music is defined by its noodling blues-rock jams and Parliament-funk freak-outs. The band’s concerts and tours bring to mind legendary 1960s acts like Cream, Grateful Dead, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Little Feat. Gov’t Mule have been a staple on the summer festival scene since their inception, entertaining college kids and older hippies alike. The mid-1990s represented the height of the jam band circuit, but while other contemporary bands faded away, Gov’t Mule kept on trucking. For the past two decades, Gov’t Mule has been entertaining ticket buyers with good old-fashioned Southern rock and roll, with songs and set lists that seem to rise, swell and go on for hours. Today, Gov’t Mule are one of the last pillars of the jam band scene.
In 2013, Gov’t Mule released the double-album, Shout!, their first LP in four years. Gov’t Mule is always trying to do new things and push the creative envelope, and Shout!'s first disc is entirely new material, while the second disc is comprised of cover versions of the first album's tracks, featuring collaborations with high-profile musicians like Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews and Steve Winwood. Gov’t Mule has released nine studio albums and several live discs. The band scored its highest chart release with 2006's High & Mighty, which peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. Indie Chart. Gov’t Mule is currently in the midst of the Time to Shout Tour, and fans know the band will be jamming long into 2014 and beyond.
Great jam band if I must say so. Warren Haynes is a master and the band was fabulous
Govt Mule was great. Venue not up to par. Paid good money for broken seats that totally ruined my experience. Will not return to Wiltern for a concert
Just another gem from GOVT MULE…. …new bassist Kevin Scott is spectacular with immense energy and the obvious extreme original potential for his contribution towards producing another great new Mule album is very exciting….!!! ……LONG LIVE MULE…..!!!!!
Gov’t Mule’s second show of their 30 year tour at the Moore Theater in Seattle showed us there’s no slowing Mule down. After attending over 2 dozen Mule shows going back to just before rebirth of the Mule this one rates at the top. Moore’s intimacy, architecture, acoustics, and overall vibe along with Mule bringing it hard and tight made this one hard to beat. First time for me seeing Scott on bass after Carlsson’s departure and he delivered perfectly with lots of energy. Abts was better than ever with Louis showing even more on guitar than just rhythm. Haynes as always spot on with everything he does. This was definitely a 5 star performance. Those of you fortunate enough to have tickets to an upcoming Mule show is in for a treat.
seven years into being a band they lost one of the three founding members, bass player Allen Woody. Although I'm really cool people have stepped into the same place on stage it was, maybe rightfully, just something different. Still good but not right great. The Setlist was fantastic pulling from all areas of the past 30 years. The new base player, Kevin Scott, Punches up the baseline but because their artists they all want to rise to the occasion and match the effort to Kevin is putting it. The sound was really crisp and hot. The light show was not a distraction but a great compliment to not only the feel of the music but to the tempo also.
Gov't Mule put on an incredible show at Moore Theater on Friday night! It was my first time seeing them play live. The sound was good and the lighting was excellent! I was struggling with my electronic ticket (probably user error), but I got a ticket at the box office from a friendly lady and made it to the show on time.
We ended up leaving early.. Gov’t Mule jammed the entire time playing none of their songs with next to no vocals. We sat in general admission and all we really heard was base. It was disappointing
Spectacular show. Great performance and set list. Was worth waiting 3 years for.
Gov’t Mule played a total of four hours in an amazing concert. Like usual. But the venue warns it uses biometric tracking. That is totally big brother and so scary. Does it mean they will prevent me from attending future concerts if they don’t like this review? Beacon Theatre is a beautiful venue and staff were fantastic. But the tracking is worrisome even though I didn’t do anything to cause an issue.
These guys are amazing. One of the best shows I've seen in decades! The light show was fantastic and, as always, the Beacon is my favorite place to see concerts.
Govt Mule at the Beacon Theater is the best way to spend New Year's Eve. The theater is beautiful and you can tell that they enjoy being there with their fans! They did not disappoint!!
Great venue, great show as always with Govt Mule. Warren Haynes is a superb guitarist.
Waited 2 years to see this show because of Covid but worth the wait,Also there is no better place to see a show than the Beacon Theater, been there well over 150 times in the last almost 30 years.
After a three year wait the Mule made up for lost time. I have seen them MANY times and this one may be the best. The black and blue theme allowed the band to cover multiple genres and artists, all with the Mule touch. The new material in the first set was great - Kevin Scott on bass has been an excellent fit. The second set was nearly 3 hours long, without a break! Stella Blue - Auld Lang Syne - Blue Sky, can there be a better way to enter a new year? Incredible night with a band that never disappoints. Thanks Warren!
Gov't Mule never disappoints on New Years Eve. In fact, every year is different with each theme so it is hard to decide which one is the best because I have loved each & every single one!!! Each New Year's show from Govt' Mule is one night of a master live auditory artwork within itself.
Loved the Black and Blues theme. 4+ hours of some of the best music ever by Warren, Matt, Danny & Kevin with some great assistance from Jimmy Vivino & Sean Pelton. Looking forward to the next time..
Warren and crew put on an excellent performance, a great mix of originals and Black and Blue themed covers. The band played until about 1:30AM and The Mule Rocked the House,
We have seen them before but this show is a great way to bring in the new year! Their ability as musicians is outstanding. We go to a lot of shows and this was outstanding! We also to shows all over our amazing city but I think the Beacon also does a great job taking care of the audience. The one thing I could have lived without was the balloons!
4 hour show who does that anymore for their fans great show
Great venue, great band, great ticket, great time!
