Gov’t Mule stormed the jam band scene in 1994 with a bluesy blend of Southern rock. Guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody originally formed the band as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band. Gov’t Mule's music is defined by its noodling blues-rock jams and Parliament-funk freak-outs. The band’s concerts and tours bring to mind legendary 1960s acts like Cream, Grateful Dead, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Little Feat. Gov’t Mule have been a staple on the summer festival scene since their inception, entertaining college kids and older hippies alike. The mid-1990s represented the height of the jam band circuit, but while other contemporary bands faded away, Gov’t Mule kept on trucking. For the past two decades, Gov’t Mule has been entertaining ticket buyers with good old-fashioned Southern rock and roll, with songs and set lists that seem to rise, swell and go on for hours. Today, Gov’t Mule are one of the last pillars of the jam band scene.
In 2013, Gov’t Mule released the double-album, Shout!, their first LP in four years. Gov’t Mule is always trying to do new things and push the creative envelope, and Shout!'s first disc is entirely new material, while the second disc is comprised of cover versions of the first album's tracks, featuring collaborations with high-profile musicians like Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews and Steve Winwood. Gov’t Mule has released nine studio albums and several live discs. The band scored its highest chart release with 2006's High & Mighty, which peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. Indie Chart. Gov’t Mule is currently in the midst of the Time to Shout Tour, and fans know the band will be jamming long into 2014 and beyond.
Great show sound system sounded great chairs comfy
Worth twice the ticket cost. Great musicians! Better than expected-1st time seeing them. 5th time at that venue. Who came out for the last couple of songs - guitar player.
Lucas Nelson & POTR were all you could ask for. Crisp sharp playing of their country-rock repertoire. I only wish they could have played longer. Gov’t Mule were frankly pretty dull, with pointless instrumental wandering and consistently muffled vocals from Warren Haynes until the last 1/3 of their set. It was like they became a different band when they stopped noodling around and played some terrible blues songs.
Gov't Mule was really, really good! Warren Haynes, was awesome, Danny Louis rocked, so talented, Kevin Scott nailed the bass. Lucas Nelson the opener, was a surprise, and good. The Venue at Thunder Valley is awesome! Great sound, and comfortable seating. The stage and theater lighting was awesome! The satellite bars are a nice easy transaction.
Sat in level 4 and couldn’t see hardly anything except the back of people’s heads. Stacking chairs zip tied together are very uncomfortable. Sound system was loud and distorted. Had to step carefully around the puke outside right where the line was. We will not be back.
Not only was Govt Mule boring they looked bored too. GM didn’t play one recognizable song….but we left early so maybe I’m mistaken Lukas Nelson and POTR was amazing and should have been the headliner. Excellent musicians, songs, arrangements and they put their whole heart into it.
Certainly one of the best shows I've seen the Mule deliver!! Lucas Nelson stepping in for the last encore was especially great lending vocals and trading guitar licks with Warren on Almost Cut my Hair and Cortez the Killer!! Simply amazing to say the least!!
Top notch show and musicians. Had a great time Did not dissapoint. Encore was dazzling. Lucas Nelson was a pleasant surprise, his passions really shines.
Came to see Lukas Nelson and thought he was top billing. Stayed to watch/listen to Gov't Mule as was told were rocknroll, blues etc. Awful 😞 More like old acid band, head banging band. We LOVE Rocknroll; this wasn't for us. They did have a big following looking at the audience but lots of folks left with us feeling the same way.
My 1st time hearing and seeing Government Mule LIVE! Fantastic show! Excellent musicianship all around ! Of course, Warren was superb. Sure enjoyed the bass player too! A really nice suprise to see John Molo sitting in on drums. The sound, overall was good. Comfortable seats. The only negatives were having to go thru the casino and breathe cigarette smoke - this is just plain wrong ! This was the only way in to the venue. Will not be a frequent attendee, here, plus the air conditioning was on...had to keep my jacket on the entire night
We sat near the back but the music was mixed perfectly and we could easily see the musicians. Government Mule and Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real were both exceptional. The Venue at Thunder Valley is a great place to see a concert EXCEPT for the ridiculous entrance you have to make to the venue, which is walking through a smoke-filled casino--horribly unappetizing not to mention unhealthful. How in the world can they get away with this? There are doors to the venue that do not go through the casino. Why can't we use those? I suppose it's all because they want to hook a few people on the slot machine. Nothing is worse after a great concert than having to run through a smoke field casino.
I wanted to see more Lukas Nelson and less Gov’t Mule!!
I actually went to see my favorite band Lukas Nelson and I was so happy to see This band. It was a great experience and surprised at how great they were.
I was not familiar with the group Gov’t Mule until I saw them at Thunder Valley Casino on 2/16/24. I thought they were wonderful. The Drummer was fantastic. I also liked the first band that played before Gov’t Mule, which was Lucas Nelson and POTR. Excellent evening of entertainment.
Govt Mile is always good and consistently delivers. Lukas Nelson however rocked the house as an opener and blew me away in his encore with Warren Hayes. Best encore ever.
Government Mule plays loud and hard. They are a great band. I thought the music was a little loud and the seats felt a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise had a great time.
Still one of my favorite live bands - Gov't Mule always gives a ton of energy, clean vocals and a lot of energy. No way you leave feeling they mailed it in.
Wiltern= A+. Warren Haynes and Govt Mule= A Drink prices= d- Set list = D-
Warren Haynes is the man, and one of my favorite jam guitarist and such a soulful singer. Govt mule always puts on a killer show with a slightly different edge each time. Great band, with a great following.
I love shows at the wiltern, it's very easy to park and it is intimate. The show itself was music at the highest level, no need for over the top theatrics, the Mule kicked hard. I jammed out with my brother and old friend all night . It was my first time seeing them and I know it won't be the last
