About

One remarkable dance team. One big chance. One small twist. You gotta be over 60.

From the director/choreographer of Kinky Boots comes the incredible true story of ten determined dreamers who audition to dance at half time for a major NBA team. They have three things in common: they love to dance, they have something to prove, and they are all over 60. It isn’t until they make the cut that they find out they won’t be dancing tap, salsa or swing—they are going to bring down the house with a style that’s entirely new to them: hip hop. Don’t miss this original Broadway-bound musical about a group of ordinary seniors with extraordinary dreams as they battle pain, prejudice, self-doubt and each other for a chance to bust a move at center court in front of 20 thousand screaming fans.

    Gotta Dance was enjoyable.

by Southbend on 2/3/16The PrivateBank Theatre - Chicago

Seeing Gotta Dance was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We loved the story line, humor, energy of the cast, good music and a lot of dancing. The play was inspirational and uplifting.

    A feel good show

by Elfinee on 1/20/16The PrivateBank Theatre - Chicago

Gotta Dance was so much fun. It will be intereresting to see if the show will change when it gets to broadway. The premise of older people on a dance team is what drew me to this show. I was not disappointed. If and when it returns to Chicago, it is a must see for a feel good evening!

Gotta Dance has gotta tighten up

by LMW32 on 1/20/16The PrivateBank Theatre - Chicago

There's a lot of potential in this new musical about aging with dignity but before it hits B'way this Fall - it needs some work. Standouts in this production are Andre De Shields, self-dubbed "The King of Swing" and he sells it; Nancy Ticotin, who heats up the room in her sexy salsa in the second act; and Lori Tan Chinn, who's free-spirit enchants the audience. Haven Burton as the Senior's coach is also strong. Stephanie Powers is perfectly cast and plays the part to the hilt. Georgia Engel has the expected punch lines - delivered in her patented naive way - but her "Dorothy/Dottie" number, that is intended to establish her love of Rap,fell flat. Lillias White's story arc plays out in 3 numbers - the first of which goes on way too long. The last number of the first act - "Swagger" is anything but. There's a good message buried in the staging right now - I hope they can bring it out in time to enjoy a long run in New York.

    Cute Concept

by SPG1244 on 1/20/16The PrivateBank Theatre - Chicago

I thought the show was very funny and entertaining, but did not enjoy the music at all. The hip hop music was ok, but the rest was disappointing.

    Refreshing and Totally Entertaining

by GBOlo on 1/20/16The PrivateBank Theatre - Chicago

This show is like a feel good movie, you don't want it to end because it is a sure delight. The story was simple yet the characters kept developing. Stephanie Powers and Georgia Engel were perfect in their respective roles, and they can dance! If laughter is good medicine, you will leave the show healthier than when you came.

A great story line that my 72 year- old sister related too, because she is in a dance group that performs for Sumner High School reunions in Kansas City, KS. She thought it was their story.

    Meh.

by Dancinarts on 1/19/16The PrivateBank Theatre - Chicago

I'm an almost 60 yr old, still loving to dance, woman. Pretty much their target audience. Although the cast was enthusiastic and generally good, they were given a boring, simplistic and predictable script with cardboard cutout characters. And, for a show that is about dancing, the choreography was incredibly lame. Half the show they were talking about how bad they are and they have to get ready for the big show... and... come the big show... they are still bad. NO. I kept waiting, hoping for the big reveal, how it all came together, how they got to showcase their own talents In the big show-stopping number at the end, but.... meh. Boring. Unless they substantially change pretty much everything about this show, I'd say spend your money and time elsewhere.
