Many shows, concerts, plays, ballets and operas later and I can say without a doubt: "Gorillaz" put on the best show, at their Boston date, that I have ever seen. A combination of multimedia visuals, multiple storylines and film clips; quirky, whimsical costumes and an array of extremely talented musicians melding together in a perfect blend of euphoric, melodic magic and our senses could've only been more stimulated had the band members given each one of us audience members a great big hug and snuggle. As my sister put it so well:
"My Gawwd. That was a SHOW, show, not just a typical concert---it had everything. When I didn't know the words to a song, I just focused more on the films and they were so amazing; so strangely beautiful, very creative."
And Albarn is the most mesmerizing and engaging frontman I've ever seen command a stage. He's animated yet graceful and draws people in, even when he's clearly not trying. He just exudes charisma and...is it "cachet"? I don't know what it is, but it fascinates and transfixes and he had the entire audience hanging on his every note and move that evening. Watching the whole group flow through their set, I got the feeling I was witnessing some kind of Victorian travelling curiosity show, conjured-up from the mists, with mysteries and fables and circus performers and a magical unveiling of the rarest, almost mythological creature in the world--a Damon Albarn--at center stage. In short: I had a good time. I had a really, really good time.
