The Big Phat Band was in excellent form! Outstanding performance. And the venue was nice too.
They are great musicians, but more jazz than big band or funk. My bad, I had expected more Big Band 40s type tunes, not all of the Gordon Goodwin compositions. The singer was a little too shrill for me. Gordon did the one thing I absolutely hate at a performance, introduced his family. Why do I care who your family is? Why should I applaud them for showing up for you?
The headline t he Big Phat Band was great. Each musician was given a special time during the song when he was featured. The drummer & percussionist were great. Also each group of instruments were featured, eg, trombones, sax & trumpets. The high notes each trumpet player would hit was unbelievable.
The Music, the acoustics & talent were just amazing! I think that the Morrison Center does need to improve the refreshment program though!
So excited to get to go to this concert. It was a blast! The energy and enthusiasm was contagious. Fantastic!
Absolutely great!!!! Don't miss either if you have the chance.
This concert, which not only teamed Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band with Take 6, but also included a cameo with Monica Mancini, was superb in every way--especially for jazz lovers who like a touch of R&B/Funk--and some brilliant a cappella singing.
As expected, both groups were spot on amazing! I wish the concert would have lasted hours longer. Where Take 6 was fantastic, I wanted them to do more tunes in their set, and knowing how good these groups are, I wanted more of the songs they do together.
