About

Secret Path is a collection of ten songs that tell the story of Chanie Wenjack (whose teachers miscalled “Charlie”), a twelve year-old boy who died fleeing the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ontario fifty years ago. Chanie was attempting to walk the 400 miles back home to the family from whom he was taken. Downie was introduced to the story by his brother Mike, who shared with him Ian Adams’ Maclean’s story from February 6, 1967, “The Lonely Death of Charlie Wenjack.”

"Chanie haunts me. His story is Canada’s story. This is about Canada…The next hundred years are going to be painful as we come to know Chanie Wenjack and thousands like him – as we find out about ourselves, about all of us – but only when we do can we truly call ourselves Canada.” — Gord Downie

    riveting

by ScottNitro on 10/24/16Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

Best thing I've seen. So powerful. The band was very strong. Gord was fully committed and sounded better than I have ever heard him. Wish I could look Gord and his family/friends in the eye and tell them how much I appreciate them.

    Gord Downie was Amazing.

by 14ElephantsBaking on 10/21/16National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I expected nothing less of Gord. He always puts on an amazing show, and this was no exception. The performance was emotional for both him and for the audience. His voice was so clear, strong and powerful. Even in his darkest hour, he just wants to make an impact in the country in loves. He is a true hero.

    incredible show just don't expect

by boforo on 5/7/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

A Hip show. My wife and I went to see them at the Sinclair on 5\3. First sign I knew it would be a good night is when we saw Gord eating dinner on the roof deck. The show may have been one of the loudest shows I have ever been to. The band was incredibly tight and they sounded spectacular. Don't miss them!
