Gladys Knight On Tour

The "Empress of Soul" is back. One of Motown's most iconic acts, Gladys Knight, returns to the big stage in 25 cities across North America for her 2022 tour. Although she's perhaps best known for her original rendition of the R&B classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine (1967)," Knight has remained in the limelight as one of the all-time greats for the last 60 years. The seven-time Grammy award winner has won across three categories including Pop, R&B and Gospel, and has another 22 nominations spanning across five decades. Over her illustrious career, she has released 10 studio albums, with her debut album Miss Gladys Knight releasing in 1978, and her most recent work Where My Heart Belongs coming out in 2014. In 1996, her band Gladys Knight & the Pips was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Knight was also included on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list. Off the stage, Knight has authored two books, including a biography titled Each Line of Pain and Glory: My Life Story, and made various appearances on television and the big screen. Her most recent appearances came when she played herself in Coming 2 America in 2021 and when she wore the bee costume on "The Masked Singer" in 2019.

Gladys Knight in Concert

Gladys Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Merald Knight Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth on May 28, 1944. She has a sister (Brenda) and two brothers (Merald "Bubba" Jr. and David). As a child and into her teens, Knight sang in her local church choir where she refined her Motown chops. She had her first breakthrough into the spotlight at the age of 8 when she won Ted Mack's The Original Amateur Hour contest. Over the next few years, Knight and four of her family members (Bubba, Edward Patten, Langston George, and William Guest) formed a performing group to be called Gladys Knight & the Pips. After a successful run in the local Atlanta music scene, the group received a record deal with Brunswick Records in 1957 and began opening for legends in the music scene and influences on their style such as Sam Cooke. The group's first record to chart was in fact a cover of Johnny Otis' "Every Beat of My Heart," which made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Knight left the group in 1962 after a string of successful releases such as "Letter Full of Tears" to start a family with her husband Jimmy Newman. However, she returned to the group two years later and went on to critical success over the course of the next five decades.

    Awesome as always!!!!!!

by LadyH on 7/12/09Beau Rivage Theatre - Biloxi

Gladys was awesome as always. This is my favorite entertainer and I was amazed as always with the energy she brings to her act. She took me down memory lane from beginning to end. I only wish there were items for purchase at the show, such as cd's and the like. Please continue to return her to this area. I had many family members who wanted to attend but didn't know about it until the last minute.

    A Night To Remember

by JAM1 on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

Excellent Show!!! Both Gladys and Smokey performed like the true legends they are. Gladys' voice is as amazing as any recording I have ever heard. Each artist can still pack a house and bring the crowd to their feet.

    Gladys Knight was OUTSTANDING!!!!!!

by EnjoyCleanEntertainment on 7/11/09Beau Rivage Theatre - Biloxi

I wanted an Encore!!!! The event was most enjoyable. It was a clean show that didn't sink to the deplorable moral conditions that exists in much of the music of today. Gladys, Gladys...you know you work too hard, but it is so appreciated!!!

    gladys is like no other!

by hanadarlin on 7/11/09Beau Rivage Theatre - Biloxi

I have had the pleasure of seeing Gladys perform once before in vegas at the Flamingo. She was awesome and I was literaly moved to tears when she sang, " The way we were". This time at the Beau Rivage I was celebrating my two daughter's birthdays that are both in july. I thought what a wonderful gift for my girls who are turning 17 and 27 years of age I wanted them to experience Gladys with me so they could understand some of my world of music that they have heard me play around our home. I felt this was a gift that would continue to give, and she delivered as I knew she would. Gladys' brother also added to the event, my youngest truely laughed at his antics, as did she clap her hands and sway to the power of Gladys. My oldest daughter shared many thanks to me and is very happy to see this music through my eyes and so many other fans like me,and now herself. Vegas was great and flashy, what a show! But I have to say, Beau Rivage in Biloxi made my oldest daughter feel that gladys was connecting with her and all that was there. I felt that she (Gladys)seemed to enjoy performing there and it came through in her performance.

the one and only gladys knight and smokey robinson

by sandport on 7/11/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

I have been listening to their music for it seems like all of my life. Never have they been more impressive. The artistic acumen; the ability to work a crowd; the management of their vocal instruments - these two artists have no match in any current artist. New artists would do themselves a favor if they would just watch these two artist. Take heed new artists - get out of the studio and use your voices so that they can be as strong as these two artists when they get in their 50's and 60's

    The concert was lovely!!

by VybeKing on 7/11/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

I mainly went to see Gladys Knight whose performance was great although a bit shorter than usual, but Smokey Robinson stole the show. I had never seen him before and I never had the urge to attend one of his performances but I found him to be very entertaining and more than my money's worth. The lovely graceful dancers and the flute/saxophone soloist along with the dazzling lighting effects made his performance nothing short of amazing. He performed all of his smash hits like "Tears Of A Clown", "Being With You", "Tracks Of My Tears", "Cruising" and "Ooh Ooh Baby Baby" along with hit songs he composed for other Motown groups like "My Girl" and "The Way You Do The Things You Do". There is something so special about the manner and professionalism that the old school artists bring to the stage that is totally missing in artists today. I am trying to attend any and every live concert featuring artists from yester year before the opportunity to see these legends passes forever. Great Show Gladys & Smokey and we hope to witness greatness again from you guys real soon.

    Smokey is STILL the man!

by MelloGMAN on 7/10/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

Smokey was incredible. He spoke at MJ's funeral in LA the day before and eventhough he was likely emotionally drained he gave us an incredible performance in Atlanta. He is almost 70 and he gave us well over an hour.

    Smokey- Musics Miracle

by Joylicious on 7/10/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

For my mother's 72nd birthday, my sister, niece and I decided to surprise our mother with the concert to see Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson. Once we arrived at the show and Smokey began singing, my mother remarked, "This is the best surprise of my life"! As Smokey sang songs made popular in the 1960's through the 1980's, I along with the crowd sang and sang. Not only did Smokey encourage the audience to sing, but he danced and interacted with the audience which made me feel a part of his performance. In addition to his great songs, he told stories of his days with Motown!
