Gladys Knight On Tour

The "Empress of Soul" is back. One of Motown's most iconic acts, Gladys Knight, returns to the big stage in 25 cities across North America for her 2022 tour. Although she's perhaps best known for her original rendition of the R&B classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine (1967)," Knight has remained in the limelight as one of the all-time greats for the last 60 years. The seven-time Grammy award winner has won across three categories including Pop, R&B and Gospel, and has another 22 nominations spanning across five decades. Over her illustrious career, she has released 10 studio albums, with her debut album Miss Gladys Knight releasing in 1978, and her most recent work Where My Heart Belongs coming out in 2014. In 1996, her band Gladys Knight & the Pips was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Knight was also included on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list. Off the stage, Knight has authored two books, including a biography titled Each Line of Pain and Glory: My Life Story, and made various appearances on television and the big screen. Her most recent appearances came when she played herself in Coming 2 America in 2021 and when she wore the bee costume on "The Masked Singer" in 2019.

Gladys Knight in Concert

Gladys Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Merald Knight Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth on May 28, 1944. She has a sister (Brenda) and two brothers (Merald "Bubba" Jr. and David). As a child and into her teens, Knight sang in her local church choir where she refined her Motown chops. She had her first breakthrough into the spotlight at the age of 8 when she won Ted Mack's The Original Amateur Hour contest. Over the next few years, Knight and four of her family members (Bubba, Edward Patten, Langston George, and William Guest) formed a performing group to be called Gladys Knight & the Pips. After a successful run in the local Atlanta music scene, the group received a record deal with Brunswick Records in 1957 and began opening for legends in the music scene and influences on their style such as Sam Cooke. The group's first record to chart was in fact a cover of Johnny Otis' "Every Beat of My Heart," which made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Knight left the group in 1962 after a string of successful releases such as "Letter Full of Tears" to start a family with her husband Jimmy Newman. However, she returned to the group two years later and went on to critical success over the course of the next five decades.

    Gladys Knight was amazing

by fanofgreatmusic on 7/17/09Silver Legacy Casino - Reno

I am a huge fan of Gladys and have been to several of her concerts but this one was different than the rest. The band, and back up singers were outstanding and the new music sound was great. Way to go Gladys.

    Gladys is awesome

by GoodDoctor on 7/16/09Silver Legacy Casino - Reno

Gladys was awesome. She has grown more engaging as a stage presence and has lost nothing being without the pips. She can and did certainly carry the show with her amazing voice. If you have a chance go see her while she is still on top of her game. Her brother Buba, who made an appearance was an extra special addition - he is still "pipin". I would suggest that you stay somewhere other than the Silver Legacy as the metal in this hotel is tarnished.

    Gladys still has it.

by Veroni on 7/16/09Silver Legacy Casino - Reno

I thought that Gladys was just great, she looks real good and still has a lot of energy for her age. And so does her brother Bubba, who was a special suprise, and I was so glad to see him doing his thing.

    Gladys and Smokey was sensational

by ladiegrip on 7/15/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

This concert was outstanding. Gladys and Smokey did an excellent job not to mention how fabulous they looked. They both sound great and had the audience rocking. This was my first time seeing them in concert and it was worth the money, I truley enjoyed myself. Can't wait to they come to Atlanta again. Does Smokey ever age? He lokks so good and so does Gladys.

    Disappointed

by gladysfan on 7/15/09The MGM Grand at Foxwoods - Mashantucket

The show started a half hour late. There was something wrong with the sound system, sometime you could hear other times not. We wasted time with the brother act and did not make up the half hour late start. I grew up on Gladys but was not happy at this event so much that I called MGM Grand to complain.

    gladys and smokey WOW.

by GEMENEYE on 7/15/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

had a ball. it was great hearing songs that i knew the words to. i could sing as off key as i do and no one was bothered. Smokey should stick to singing and leave the jokes alone. i can sympathize with him though, none of us are as young as we use to be, so we have to take breaks. Gladys was awesome.

    Gladys was great!

by Shelb on 7/15/09Casino Rama - Orillia

We really enjoyed this show. She sang all her hits and still has an amazing voice. It was awesome that she talked to the fans and actually signed autographs and shook some hands from the stage at the end. She obviously appreciates her fans and is willing to show her appreciation. We also enjoyed her brother coming out and doing a number. Great show!

For a "senior" artist, Gladys still has the voice. She also has a great sense of humour. Thoroughly enjoyed it

    Gladys was AMAZING!!!!

by lanayry5 on 7/13/09Beau Rivage Theatre - Biloxi

I did not grow up during the Gladys Knight era but I do have an extreme love for old school music. I now have a great appreciation and love for Gladys Knight as well. She looked beautiful and her voice sounded just like her records. I was not only about the music but extremely entertaining when her brother (one of the original Pips) came out on stage as well. It is a definite must see!

    smokey was awesome!!

by jeannine on 7/13/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

this event was great!! my only complaint is that it was advertised as though gladys knight was the headliner!! actually, gladys started the show for about one hour and then smokey robinson closed the show. ( however, i will say that he was excellent!) but gladys knight's picture is shown on ticketmaster, and her name comes first (before smokey's), so i naturally assumed it was HER concert. however, i love chastain park and the ambience. so i thoroughly enjoyed the show!

    Gladys Knight

by Stella01101999 on 7/13/09Beau Rivage Theatre - Biloxi

The show was pretty good. However, I would have preferred she played more of her songs she made with the pips than Teddy, Boys to men, etc. Also, I thought the show could have lasted a little longer. Gladys can move pretty good for over 60.
