If it hadn't been for Bruce Greenwood, I probably wouldn't have even thought about attending this musical. I'm not a fan of King or Mellancamp, though I do trust Burnette when he chooses to work with musicians. 'Ghost Brothers' is based on a trite, thin story that is chock full of annoying characters. Some of the lyrics to the songs are silly, but a lot of lyrics to songs these days are just as silly. That said, the music itself is quite good, and on that point, 'Ghost Brothers' is well worth it. The band is excellent. Except for 2 of the singers, the singing is outstanding. Strong, soulful voices do so much justice to the music and are good enough to make the sometimes silly lyrics seem more interesting than they really are. Much thought went into casting the primary characters--Joe, Dan, Monique, the Devil, the Shape--and they carry the show. I don't regret attending at all, and ended up enjoying the show.
