GERRY DEE ON TOUR:
Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic. After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.
Awesome show awesome show, awesome show awesome show
What an awesome way to spend a Friday night. Gerry always delivers and his material is so relatable. Very rare you find a comic who doesn’t swear or resort to vulgarity. Just good stories and jokes with impeccable timing. Would just love to know if his son has learned to butter his toast. Thanks for the laughs Gerry!
I would rate the show a 5 out of 10. Very safe , Gerry reading off Q-cards showed he didn’t take the show serious. Lacked energy ,just going through the motions ,didn’t stay to after the show for a meet and greet. Made excuses of going to the next city the next day and picking up his kids before the show ended. Opening act - was ok , very nervous and also going through his Q-cards. The show coming from Brampton to Massey hall I would rate it a 3-out of 10. If it was in Brampton would rate it a 7. Traffic coming and going & parking makes it a rough go.
We watch Gerry Dee on television. Love him in Mr. Dee and Family Feud, so I thought it would be fun to see him live. Seats off to the side were not good, hard to even see him when he moved around the stage. Presentation was just OK. Expected more.
Gerry Dee was Great on point with everything laughed the whole time ..
This was such an amazing show! I’m a teacher and have been wanting to see him ever since his Mr. D. series! He’s so very talented.
A lot of his jokes were very A typical. Had few good laughs but nothing spectacular.
Kept the show interesting all the way thru. Very funny
A family evening-shared with our sons aged 20 and 23. All fans of Gerry. So much laughter and many connections (hockey, teaching) to his experiences. So glad he shared time with all gathered.
Gerry makes me laugh every night during Family Feud, so I was very excited to see his stand up show, and he didn’t disappoint! We haven’t laughed that hard in such a long time! He wasn’t crude like other comedians I’ve seen in the past, however, it was definite adult content that never crossed the line - a true Comedian! Thank You for a fun evening at Casino Rama, Gerry!
