About

GEORGE LAMOND IN CONCERT:

From his days as a Latin freestyle icon to his stint as a salsero, George Lamond has remained a powerhouse vocalist known for his passionate delivery and red-hot live shows. In concert Lamond performs beat-heavy jams like “Bad of the Heart” and “Look into My Eyes” with all the fire and energy you’d expect from a freestyle star, inspiring sing-alongs with his emotional croon and getting fans dancing with his infectious hip-shaking. Lamond brings equal parts sensitivity and swagger to the stage, kicking out his party-worthy hits with just the right mix of emotion and stone-cold confidence. Whether he’s singing his sweat-inducing freestyle classics or breaking hearts with his chart-topping salsa smash “Que Tu Te Vas”, Lamond is a dynamic performer with an incredible sense for the groove and a smooth, sultry voice that hits all the right notes.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

George Lamond, aka George Garcia, was born in Washington, D.C. but moved to his parents’ native Puerto Rico at the tender age of two. Five years later the family returned to the states and settled in the Bronx area of New York City, where Lamond was exposed to the budding Latin freestyle scene during his teens. In 1989 he dropped his first single “Bad of the Heart”, a breakout hit that earned him a deal with Columbia Records. He released his debut album Bad of the Heart on the label the following year, reaching No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the strength of a string of popular singles like “No Matter What” and “Look Into My Eyes”. His 1992 sophomore album In My Life fared similarly thanks to a string of popular freestyle jams, but by the mid-‘90s Lamond was recording Spanish-language music more influenced by the sounds of salsa than NYC street styles. In 1999 he scored his first Top 10 hit on the Latin Tropical/Salsa Airplay chart with “Que Te Vas”, and he remained a fixture on the chart throughout the early ‘00s. It’s been a decade since he’s released an album, but Lamond continues to impress anytime he performs his unique catalog of freestyle and salsa hits on tour.

  • Venue had a lot of problems

by Phill on 4/15/25Toyota Oakdale Theatre - WallingfordRating: 3 out of 5

Show was supposed to start at 8 and it started before 8. 2 performers had performed before 8. Bathrooms had no lighting!! People had to use phone lighting this was crazy I’ve never had this happen. Mics on singers stopped working at one point. The singers did great loved George Lamond as always but the venue wasn’t good at all. Not sure if they forgot there was a concert but it was very disappointing and disorganized.

  • Set Time Machine to 1988: Activate

by LauraLynnM on 4/15/25Toyota Oakdale Theatre - WallingfordRating: 4 out of 5

It went off on time. A couple of intermission periods, great performers, DJ was great too! Easy to find the venue. Clean restrooms. Easy parking. The whole thing lasted 4 hours. Well worth the price paid to reminisce about my teen years

Phenomenal show. Richie Rich did a fabulous job. Great to see so many singers perform for the 40th anniversary of freestyle.

  • Nostalgia at its finest!

by Hek-Tek on 3/18/25Lehman Center for the Performing Arts - BronxRating: 5 out of 5

This review is ONLY for them Freestyle Freaks! The line-up was great as usual, the venue was nice with comfortable seats (though a bit too close to one another). The jokes they had going in-between songs were classic and how the performers kept the audience/fans engaged throughout the extravaganza! Gearge Lamond playing a salsa song was the cherry on the top guys!

  • Excellent Concert/ Poor Crowd Control

by Dex on 3/18/25Lehman Center for the Performing Arts - BronxRating: 2 out of 5

As a Freestyle fan this was an Outstanding concert. George Lamond, and all the Artist in attendance truly put everything they had into making this a night to remember. The one negative experience that I had was that as a VIP ticket holder sitting in the second row of the orchestra section my view was obstructed by individuals that crossed the barrier line. Public safety made several attempts to clear the from stage area but this continued over and over. At one point, it looks like Public Safety for the college just gave up. This seems unfair to the VIP ticket holders who paid premium rates for their tickets. I felt the venue staff should have been on hand to help with crowd control. I have attended several events at this venue and never have seen this type of behavior go unchecked. Great concert but unpleased with the crowd control situation.

  • Extraordinary!

by Maritza Matos on 11/13/24Lehman Center for the Performing Arts - BronxRating: 5 out of 5

An amazing experience from beginning (VIP pre-show mingle) through to end (meet and greet!) and everything in-between!! The talent on that stage was second to none! The songs were fantastic! I'd definitely see this again!!

  • Missed the show because there was no parking

by EC on 11/6/24Lehman Center for the Performing Arts - BronxRating: 1 out of 5

After spending hundreds of dollars on orchestra seats to this show we arrived early at the venue and were turned away from parking because the lot was full. Tried to find parking in the area for over an hour before finally giving up. I will NEVER purchase tickets to this venue again. What a waste of money.
