About

Ten-time Grammy-award winning artist, George Benson, has the rare distinction of being in the pop consciousness while remaining in the pantheon of jazz greats. With 36 studio albums, and 8 live albums, Benson has emerged a household name best known for the 1976 three-time Grammy-winning album, Breezin', boasting the pop-jazz vocal smash "This Masquerade," which topped the jazz, pop, and R&B charts. The album remains one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, and has since been certified 3x platnum. His 1980 soul-pop gem, "Give Me The Night," produced by Quincy Jones and written by Rod Temperton (Michael Jackson), summited to the top of the soul single charts. In 2009, Benson was awarded the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship-- the highest honor that our nation bestows on jazz artists.

Benson is a consummate performer and an adventurous instrumentalist who remains an annual must-see artist. He regularly packs and sells out such hallowed venues as The Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, Hampton Court Palace, and Sydney Opera House. Benson is also a marquee artist at many U.S. jazz and international festivals, including Montreux Jazz Fest and NOJF, Umbria and North Sea to name a few.

Benson's recent accomplishments are varied and aplenty. He collaborated with subversive art- pop band, Gorillaz, featuring Blur's Damon Albarn, to co-write and perform on the track "Humility," which has amassed over 100 million YouTube views and counting. In 2021, DJ Steve Aoki remixed Benson's hit "Give Me The Night," with a rugged house beat introducing the irresistible R&B-pop gem to a whole new audience. He was interviewed by Youtube sensation, Rick Beato, earning 900K views in 3 weeks.  His recent albums have earned features and rave reviews in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, American Songwriter, Forbes, Billboard and Newsweek. In 2020, Benson was inducted to jazz bible DownBeat Magazine's Hall Of Fame. The following year he was inducted by music legend Quincy Jones into New Jersey's Hall Of Fame-- an honor from which he received a personal congratulatory note from President Obama.

by Paterson on 9/11/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The Grammy Museum venue was very intimate and the American Express sponsorship was outstanding. George Benson was extremely personable and entertaining. It was icing on the cake to hear George and the band perform in such a great setting.

  • Benson at the Grammy

by Downtowner on 9/11/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

For those who haven't been to the Grammy Museum theater, you are missing one of the great music experiences anywhere. Where else can you hear a great musician like George Benson interviewed by a fellow music expert for 45 minutes and then hear him play live, with full band, all in small (200 seat) comfortable venue with world class sound? Absolutely awesome. Talk about up close and personal!!

  • Greatest Time Ever

by nanasusie on 9/11/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first time to the GRAMMY Museum and it was fablous, so much more than I ever expected. I loved the intimate atmosphere of the small venue which showcased the Amazing George Benson. We were treated to a new Host and forgive me I can not remember his name, however, he was great. George talked about his life and how he came to where he is today. I was stunned to find out that it all began at the age of 7. Even more impressed by the story of his father building him a guitar that he carried around in a shopping bag. If you have not experienced the GRAMMY Museum, please do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this wonderful experience. American Express you did a wonderful job on this event. I must say that when it was all done and over.....as we exited the museum I told my husband "I can not beleive how great the show was and how wonderful I feel having experienced it" George just made you feel awesome!!! You may think this woman is a nut!!! But it was truly a wonderful event that I wish I could have shared with everyone I Know. Thank you again American Express, GRAMMY Museum & Mr. George Benson.

How can you go wrong when you see George Benson, especially in such a great venue as the SoundStage at the Grammy Museum. With 200 people capacity, it was like he was playing a private party for you. George was a great story teller and loved the music. It was a wonderful event.

  • the whole show was unforgettable!!!

The whole show was great. The music, the fine men who performed george benson and baby face. the crowd was great everyone on the same page with the music, clapping their hands patting their feet, waving their hands into the show and music.

  • George Benson was unforettable !

The best show I have seen in years !! A+. I will go again and again !

  • George is still breezing

    by 9lives2 on 8/26/09Potawatomi Casino/Northern Lights Theater - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5

George Benson still has the magic fingers--even making his guitar sound like the bagpipes. His voice has gone a bit raspy, but his showmanship is at the level it was when I saw him perform 20 years ago. The band he had with him was exceptional. The only disappointment was that he did not play "20-20". Overall I think the crowd left happy.

  • George Benson was great.

  • George Benson-Kenny Babyface Edmonds-Ledisi

by Robyo on 7/17/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

Very expensive ticket price. Very good show, although did not like the comment made by George that the people sitting on the canal accross the road, should have been charged a ticket price. I thought it was pompous based on the cost of his ticket. Babyface could have been the headliner! Fantastic.

  • Benson, Babyface & Ledisi

by ib2worthy4u on 7/16/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

This was an awsome concert. It was electric and full of energy. It was coupled with a friendly and enviting atmosphere. I loved it and I would pay a full check to see Ledisi perform anywhere again. I'm young and George Benson suprised me tramedously. He made you leap out of your seat. Babyface was smooth and ever so graceful. The entire concert was the best I've seen this year. I recommend this to all and I encourage you to see Ledisi whenever she comes to town. You will be disppointed.

  • SAD YET BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

  • BABYFACE/BENSON GREAT!!!!!!

by RELY on 7/16/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

Great concert. Only sligtly marred by learning the death of the KING of POP (Michael Jackson) during the concert. My first time seeing Babyface was everything I expected. George Benson was still good after all these years.

  • The bomb!

  • Babyface & Ledisi was great!!!!

by LadyJB on 7/15/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed BabyFace live. This was my first time seeing him in concert. I would go to another Babyface. George Benson, was fair, but I found Ledisi to be more enteraining.

  • George Kenny & Ledisi - A night to Remember

by Blksntaclr on 7/15/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

The music was outstanding. Babyface was outstanding and the venue was perfect for his songs. George closest it out with a jam session off the Chain. Ledisi got everyone's energy going. The venue was excellent and gave a wonderful outdoor feel to the concert.

  • Great combination of performers....

by TitaTee on 7/15/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

Each performer was able to "hold their own"! It was like seeing each performer in a solo concert; each one was excellent!! Considering this was the day Michael Jackson died, the performers managed to encourage a sad crowd and make us cheer the memory of him.
