Gang of Four, OMG! Wicked awesome show.

by 7V7boston on 2/9/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Its was a Monday night, but Gang of Four brought us a tight, high energy show we rocked like it was Saturday night. The only downside was the show had to end at some point, and yes, reality hit that it was only Monday and a full week of routine lay ahead....but who cares when your soul is full? I saw this band a few times in the 80s and loved them then, but I had forgotten just how good they were. I luckily had bought their new album and listened to it a lot before the show and i think i appreciated their new songs even more being more familiar... But that's always the case. Tight! Professional! Creative and infectious! I'd go see this same show again and again. A real treat. And the opening act Hollerado were a great segue. They were solid and quite entertaining. All in all a five star night at the paradise!

    Gang of Four

by MrBigz on 2/9/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Gang of Four has returned to their dischordant roots playing an incredible set comprised mostly of music from their first 2 records Entertainment! and Solid Gold...I hope they continue to tour so I can go see them again. I saw them twice in the early 80's in both Boston and Providence... and they were great, in some ways they were even better now....and the new album has some real standout tracks the raw abrasive power of their early work has returned. I brought my 20 year old son who is a music major in college (drums and guitar) and a professional musician...at the end of the show he just looked at me and said "Wow, I don't know exactly what I expected coming to the show - but it wasn't that...that was unbelievable".... nuff said

    Great show

Great to see Gang of Four. Highlight was when they brought Hugo Burnham up to fill in on drums - he lives locally, was nice to see 3 of the original Gang of 4 onstage.

    100% Gang of 4

by glen on 2/6/11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I don't believe in the "they gave it 110%" crap. You can only give 100% and the Gang of Four did that. Jon King was a brilliant front man for the band. Older, yes, but he had the energy of someone half his years. Andy Gill was typically stoic at guitar. He made sure the songs were as edgy as ever. The new bass player and drummer were a solid backbone to the songs, because if you know anything about GO4 songs, they require a solid bassist and drummer so that Andy can play over the top and Jon can sing. The songs were heavily biased toward the Entertainment album (8 songs), but that can be expected. That album is perfection from start to finish. Next there were 4 songs from the new album, Content. New material that isn't just a re-hash of the earlier music. The other songs came from the Solid Gold and Songs of the Free albums. No Mall, No Shrinkwrapped and certainly no Hard album. We drove 3 1/2 hours and stayed overnight to go to the show. It was money well spent. 3 encores of two songs each. The guys looked like they WANTED to be there. No going through the motions. At the end of the second encore Jon King was crawling along the stage - he was beat! ...and still went on. The band played like they enjoyed it as much as we did. I'm 50 and I expected the show to be full of people my age. The crowd had some people my age but just as many, if not more people my kids ages. The kids were singing the songs along with the band! It was awesome! The last time I saw the GO4 I was 23 and I enjoyed it. This time I savored the show. I'm older, they are older, but they brought the intensity to the show that was as intense as my thrill of seeing one of my favorite bands what they do best!
