About

Galactic in Concert

New Orleans collective Galactic has long been a musical powerhouse in their hometown, but they’ve had just as much fun spreading their vibrant, Big Easy–inspired sound to nearly every corner of the country and beyond. The jazz-funk giants exhibit a jam-band–like charm on stage, weaving traditional and modern sounds into songs fit for lazy days in the sun and spirited nights at intimate clubs. Over the years, they’ve been regulars at New Orleans’ beloved music venue Tipitina’s, toured the US multiple times, and made frequent appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, and various other jazz and rock events around North America and Europe. When performing in New Orleans, Galactic like to invite a guest or two on stage, including fellow hometown heroes like The Neville Brothers, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the Soul Rebels Brass Band. On the road, they’ve shared the stage with artists like Jack Johnson, The Roots, Counting Crows, Juvenile, B.B. King, and other notable performers in rock, rap, roots and reggae. Wherever they are, expect a whole lot of soul, sass and brass — and plenty of Mardi Gras merriment.

About Galactic

Galactic’s bold fusion of funk, R&B, jazz, rock, hip-hop and electronic music is irresistible. Drawing from the time-honored traditions of New Orleans’ brass bands, funk pioneers and blues superstars, the group formed in 1994 when childhood friends guitarist Jeff Raines and bassist Robert Mercurio joined drummer Stanton Moore, saxophonist/producer Ben Ellman, organist Rich Vogel and vocalist Theryl DeClouet. Their debut album, 1996’s Coolin’ Off, showcased Galactic’s deep love for New Orleans and its rich jazz heritage. With album number two, 1998’s Crazyhorse Mongoose, they landed on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. Moving into the 21st century, Galactic began experimenting more with their sound, bringing in notable hip-hop producer Dan the Automator on 2003’s Ruckus, collaborating with alternative rap stars like Lyrics Born and Boots Riley on 2007’s From the Corner to the Block, working alongside New Orleans musicians such as Allen Toussaint and Trombone Shorty on 2010’s Ya-Ka-May, incorporating Brazilian dance beats on 2012’s Carnivale Electricos, and inviting veteran vocalists like Macy Gray and Mavis Staples to sing on 2015’s Into the Deep. Since, Galactic has continued to keep themselves — and their fans — on their toes with new sounds, new guests and new ways to keep New Orleans’ celebrated spirit alive.

    Anders Osborne Amazing Performance

by Ei on 2/11/20The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY - Port Chester

First time I had seen either Anders Osborne or Galactic. Anders was phenomenal and Galactic was high energy and talented but not type of music. Theatre was great, sound system one of the best. Will be back at The Capitol when AO is back in town.

    Mind Blowing Show

    by Jerry G. on 8/12/19Aura - Portland

WOW!!! The musical talent of these guys is sublime. Saw them this past weekend and my head is still spinning from the experience. This band hits the right neurons in the right spots at the right time. Will take your brain to a place that only superior sound can. And talk about soul...they've got it in spades!!!

    Party in Park - Galactic

by Rico on 8/11/19Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Manhattan Square - Rochester

My first time to Rochester's "Party in the Park". I noticed they get some great acts for the event. Galactic was totally professional in their performance. The fans drawn by inexpensive promotion, so less appreciative. Enjoyed the entertainment. In the face of a incoming storm the band took the stage on time, kicked it! Then after the passing of the storm played hard. Ending probably for noise ordinance.

by Daimeion on 3/27/19Crystal Bay Club Casino Crown Room - Crystal Bay

Long time fan, first time seeing them, and all my expectations were met and some! The addition of Erica Falls was fantastic, such an incredible vocalist and stage presence. There was not one booty idle in the audience!

by Tamz01 on 3/28/18Crystal Bay Club Casino Crown Room - Crystal Bay

Erica Falls had gold stars spraying from her lungs into my senses! Truly unbelievable vocals which matched the equally amazing talent of all the band members. This is an annual mainstay in my life which carries me in bliss for weeks! Nothing like them.

    Galactic was amazing as always!

by Wthh on 3/19/18Madrid Theatre - Kansas City

Seen unclose at The Madrid Theatre in Kansas City this was a real treat. The core musicians all present and their high energy current vocalist made for some great energy as they ran through selections from their longstanding body of work. Tried to see them last year in their hometown during Jazz Fest and couldn't get tickets. Funky and danceable the whole floor at Madrid was moving. Just wish more of KC would have made it out to support this great band.

    Go see them

by gkaranic on 3/19/18Madrid Theatre - Kansas City

This was my second time seeing Galactic and man am I glad I went. I was pretty beat from the week and almost stayed in, but the show was more energizing than any cup of coffee or cold shower. The usual singer was sick, so Erica Falls filled in and she tore the roof off the place. What a set of pipes. The audience was really into it and everyone was dancing and grooving. There weren't a whole bunch of guest musicians as is sometimes the case at Galactic shows, but they didn't need them. Fantastic musicianship and great pacing with the set. Go see them.

Galactic was good but one dimensional

by Miguelbertez on 3/18/18Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

Opening band Making Movies was outstanding!!!!! Eclectic and exciting

Great instrumentals - Vocals felt out of place.

by UncommonlyCommon on 3/18/18Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

I have been a long time fan of Galactic and I suspect this was just a case of mismatched expectations when they had a female lead vocalist. Do not get me wrong in that she was talented vocally but it just felt out of place and I think would have been better suited with a male vocalist who’s voice parallels more with the original singer. Outside of that the band itself was spot on and just as talented live on stage.

by RealtorSteve on 3/12/17House of Blues Boston - Boston

Brio was great! Robt. Randolph Family Band was great! Galactic was great! All 3 had great energy, incredible showmanship and superb musicianship. Small breaks between bands kept the energy levels up. I would see all three again... and again. RRFB will be headlining soon.

    KILLING ME SOFTLY

by gsparky on 8/26/16The Belly Up - Solana Beach

I have seen this band so many times I can't count. I have been a big fan but this show was just not up to par. This was the first time I have seen them play a venue so empty. This show was just too "soft" for my taste. Even though Erica is a talent I hope that they get a new lead singer that can rap and is harder edge like years past. I saw them a few months ago at Jazz Fest which was a much better show
