    South Central Experience

by Fly Cayla on 12/25/22The Observatory - Santa Ana

First and foremost this was my first time attending an event at the Santa Ana Observatory. Seeing as prepaid parking was offered as an option upon buying the concert tickets, this made arriving to the venue and finding a park fairly easy. This is a plus as worrying about parking when attending an event can tend to be a burden at times attending certain venues. The parking attendants were kind and fairly helpful. Entering the venue was a simple process. There was security checking attendees upon arrival. There were a lot of patrons in attendance, however, the process was fairly quick and organized for the most part. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring my sharpie in to get my vinyl signed, however, I understand the security has a job to uphold as well. The venue is fairly spacious and yet was still packed wall to wall which is a testament to the artistry of the performers and the quality of the creative work being put out. Each set of artists held their own when performing and maintained the crowds attention as well as brought a level of high energy to the stage. The Baby Stone Gorillas showed up and showed out. Although I wasn't familiar with too much of their music prior to the concert, they have the potential to be an L.A. Staple as long as they continue to stay focused on their craft. Wallie the Sensei has a voice unique to himself and he definitely did his job and captivated the crowd with not only the songs that he's already made an impact with thus far such as 'Scandalous', '03 Flow' as well as the collaboration 'Do it Up' with former group listed "Baby Stone Gorillas" but also with his ability to interact with the crowd and still hold hold his own as a talent with star power while understanding the assignment to keep the crowd hype as fans awaited the final and main act of the night G. Perico to hit the stage. Of course which was well worth the wait. G.Perico did what he came to do and complete his mission at the end of his 2022 flood that followed his 2021 flood. Opening up with his recent single 'Location' off his latest release South Central, G came out swinging. Even when it came down to tracks like 'Calm, Cool & Collective' as well as the heavy hitter 'Spray Bottle' off the tape, he didn't let up. Tracks like 'Welcome to the Land', 'That's My Dawg', 'Billie Jean' & more kept the crowd hype and full of life throughout the night. He is more than solid and cares as about his supporters. He even stopped the show mid performance and showed love to a young fan in attendance whose birthday was the same day. Before continuing he made sure the crowd sung her happy birthday and then he got back to it. Which is a testament to his humility as well as his hard work. Of course he spread motivation throughout the night letting fans know to keep following their heart and not their emotions lol Though tracks like 'One More Day' were more on the serious side of G he still made you feel the raw west coast emotion. Lastly, he ended the night with a classic showing love to all the real ones lost and of course his dawg Bucho. Overall G is an incredible talent and equally and incredible and electrifying performer. I give him 5 stars.
