Incredible show! Fabulous story, staging, singing and acting. You need not have read the book , but it definitely increased my enjoyment in the story, but my husband had not read it and loved the show.

About
“A RARE BEAUTY THAT PUMPS FRESH AIR INTO BROADWAY.” – Ben Brantley, The New York Times
“EXQUISITE. AN EMOTIONAL POWERHOUSE.” – Chicago Tribune
“A LANDMARK PRODUCTION THAT WILL FOREVER CHANGE WHAT IS POSSIBLE IN MUSICAL THEATRE.” – The Huffington Post
Every once in a while a Broadway musical comes along that surprises, moves and excites audiences in ways only a truly landmark musical can. The “groundbreaking,” “life-affirming” and “exquisite” new musical FUN HOME was the event of the Broadway season, receiving raves from critics and audiences alike, winning five 2015 Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL and making history along the way. Based on Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir, FUN HOME introduces us to Alison at three different ages as she explores and unravels the many mysteries of her childhood. A refreshingly honest musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes, “FUN HOME is extraordinary, a rare beauty that pumps fresh air into Broadway.” (New York Times)
Rating: 5 out of 5by cbng on 11/7/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago Rating: 4 out of 5 good production of a Broadway hit
by MarshallW on 11/7/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoFun Home is a good production of a Tony Award winning Broadway hit. It is concisely written and the songs move the story along so that it can be told in 90 minutes. It has uplifting moments but it deals with serious adult subjects. It did please the audience that wanted to see the story. There were many empty seats because it doesn't draw the typical musical comedy crowd that want to hear show tunes.
Rating: 5 out of 5 FUN HOME rewards repeated visits,a MUST SEE!
by NormSloan on 11/7/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoHaving seen the Tony Award winning original Broadway version twice,I was eager to see the National Tour, with a different cast and staging and it happily exceeds already high expectations. An emotionally rich experience,a family story so well told by a cast which is perfect, matched by the show's musicians and all production elements. This is a show not to be missed and one that you'll want to return to,like the great mid 20th century classic musicals(only different!).I;ll be seeing it before it leaves and will look forward to future local productions. A return run of the Tour or a high profile local production at the Broadway Playhouse would be most welcome--- perhaps in rotating rep with Jeanine Tesori's earlier masterpiece,CAROLINE,OR CHANGE. I'll be back at The FUN HOME next Sunday.

by CaML5460 on 11/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoThis is a wonderful show. It is funny and touching and extremely thought provoking. Regardless of your background or how you personally identify, it is relatable on many levels. The way the story is weaved through time is masterful. Great acting & singing. A must see!
Rating: 3 out of 5 Fun Home was not Fun
by Misty60 on 11/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoThis "Musical" was a painful look at the lives of a dysfunctional family. Well acted, but not what I expected.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Funhome was poignant, moving....and fun
by Steve432 on 11/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoHard to believe a play centering on a suicide and being gay in and out of the closet could also be funny and at times uplifting in a way that works. The music, singing and acting were all excellent, but the script puts Funhome in a class by itself.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Beautifully Crafted Tony Winner
by Berthajoy on 11/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoThis is one family's story, funny at times, tragic at others. The production values are very good. DEFINITELY worth seeing.
Rating: 2 out of 5 Disappointing
by AlexandraGrace on 11/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoDespite its several Tony awards and a glowing review from the Chicago Tribune, I found this play to be a huge disappointment. It did not hold a candle to my favorites, Book of Mormon, Rent, Hamilton, Avenue Q and Chorus Line, just to name a few. It is the kind of musical that musical theater haters hate. Unremarkable score, forgettable lyrics and gimmicky framework and staging. While Alison Bechdel's life story is quite interesting, the play did not engage me at all. Couldn't wait for it to be over.
