About

This epic musical features the words of Abraham Lincoln and music inspired by the letters of those who lived through the Civil War. Through a series of highly theatrical vignettes, we see everyday Americans courageously confront the gritty realities of a tattered nation and a war that pitted brother against brother. Lincoln’s inspirational words intermix with these stories, imagining a bloody nation once again unified. Ford’s Theatre is developing this work as part of "Ford’s 150," a series of events commemorating the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s assassination

    Amazing

by Anonymous on 5/14/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

I can't rave about this beautiful musical. It was done so so well, it made you think of what happened in those times and how many souls were lost. The songs were beautifully sung, every member of the cast had a fabulous voice. If you haven't seen this yet run and get tickets before it ends.

    Freedom's Song Brings Tears

by GBGczarina on 5/13/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

The show was very well executed. It was very moving. Brought tears to my eyes more than once . . . and shows both how far we've come and how far we have not yet gone by the timeliness of many of the lyrics and situations.

Freedoms Song is Worth Singing About!

by justPJ on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

We were pleasantly surprised to see such a full-bore musical stage production. Great actors, great singing voices, the music, and of course- with Lincoln's own words- the whole production had me emotionally involved. I'd see it again- so much to see and hear.

    Freedom's Song was amazing!

by Fridayauction on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

Everything about this musical was good: the voices, the acting, and the props. One of the best plays we've seen in a loooong time!!!! (including many we paid much more for)

    Yeah, okay

by OdinsEye on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

Ford's theater will always be a vortex of American History. The building and its legacy are wonderful. Freedom's Song was a nice effort to personalize the Civil War. The Lincoln quotes and photographs were moving. But I can't remember a single riff or lyric from the music. It just wasn't catchy.

    Freedom's Song

by BillASinger on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

An excellent tribute to Lincoln and those who lived though/died during the Civil War. Lincoln's words were so eloquently used. The composer is brilliant and rendered by a superb cast of exceptional voices.

    Inspirational and excellent!

by AContres on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

When my fiance suggested taking my parents (who are huge Civil War buffs) to see this musical I knew they would like it, but I did not think it would compare to a broadway musical. I must say I was wrong! The music was inspirational and the acting was very good! If you are someone who enjoys history, is interested in seeing a production at Ford's Theatre, or just looking for a good musical Freedom Song is perfect for you!

    Very talented cast!

    by Dfenz33 on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

In that a musical is rarely my first choice for an entertainment venue, I went into this with very low expectations. I was quite pleasantly surprised and astounded by the talent and professionalism of the entire cast! Beautiful singing voices: EVERY one of them. It was an amazing production. Loved it. From start to finish! Bravo!

    Strong Production!

    by RJS197 on 5/12/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

This unique show, based on the writings and speeches of Abe Lincoln, is a very solid musical production. The performers exhibited fantastic voices and stage presence. There are no flashy effects or over-the-top technical elements, but the creative staging and integration of video added real impact to the excellent performances. The nine piece orchestra played like a much bigger band and the sound and lighting were top-notch. I am involved in San Francisco Peninsula Community Theater and know what a great show should be; I had high expectations and was not dissappointed!

    A Treat!

by MylahB on 5/11/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

Freedom's Song was very good. The cast did a wonderful job with the songs & the effects were just enough to get profound historic messages across to the audience. Nothing fancy, which was appropriate for the times it portrayed. Worth the trip!

    excellent evening

by dancerforgood on 5/11/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

My husband and i are seniors who didn't know quite what to expect from the evening. Being in Washington DC for only a few days, we wanted to take in as much as we could. Seeing the production of Freedom's Song was a huge highlight. The singing, music, and acting were as professional as any we have seen and the story told was poignant. We loved it.

    Freedom's Song was spectacular!

    by Gerald07 on 5/11/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

All of the voices were very strong - this musical could be done in a much bigger venue and still feel like it belongs. The only other musical I've seen is Wicked (world class performance) and I'd put this right up there with that from a musical perspective. Highly recommended! Very moving!

    exceeded expectations

by Anonymous on 5/10/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

This was the highlight of our short D.C. visit and was especially meaningful after spending part of the day at the National Archives researching a great-great grandfather who fought in the Civil War. Production was very well done - both music and script were excellent.
