About

Christopher Edwin Lonny Breaux was born in California in 1987 but moved with his family to New Orleans when he was still a child. Hurricane Katrina destroyed his plans to study at university in New Orleans and he transferred to the University of Louisiana before heading to LA to pursue his dreams of making it in the music business. Changing his name to Frank Ocean, he began writing songs for BeyoncƩ, Justin Bieber, Brandy and John Legend. He joined Odd Future as part of their hip-hop collective before signing to the Def Jam record label and producing a mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, which brought him widespread critical acclaim and led to collaborations with Kanye West and Jay Z.
2011 was a significant year in the career of Frank Ocean. Apart from the release of Nostalgia, Ultra he worked with Odd Future member Tyler, The Creator on his Goblin album. His first single ā€œNovocaineā€ was well-received by both critics and fans, reaching the number 82 slot in the Billboard Hot 100, number 17 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Charts and number six on the Heatseekers Songs Charts. His follow-up single ā€œSwim Goodā€ reached number 70 in the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Charts. Later in the same year he co-wrote and performed on two tracks for Watch The Throne, a collaborative album between Kanye West and Jay Z. This was also the year he featured in his first major live appearance, performing with Odd Future at Coachella Festival followed by a short tour in the United States.
Frank Ocean released his first studio album, channel ORANGE, in July 2012, with critics immediately declaring it to be a significant development in the R&B sound. His first single from the album, ā€œThinking Bout Youā€ reached No. 32 in the US Billboard Hot 100. He has received attention and praise for the lyrical content of his songs which address emotional dilemmas and substance abuse in a touching and sensitive manner. He has been quoted as saying that he writes stories which he sets to music, often in an unconventional way.
A tour in 2012 to promote the channel ORANGE album featured appearances at festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza. Further touring in 2013 included sets at the New Orleans Jazz Fest followed by his You're Not Dead tour of Europe and Canada which featured gigs in London and Dublin. In the same year he collaborated on productions by Kanye West, Jay Z and John Mayer.

    Best Concert I've Been To

by Raychillin on 4/22/13Center Stage - Atlanta

Frank is amazing. He has the coolest stage presence and this warmth about him. He's so humble and you can tell he enjoys performing. It almost felt like we were in the living room watching him play...or a weird garage lol. Anyway, I'll never forget this concert. It made my summer.

Frank is truly an amazing artist!

    by iloveblakegriffin on 3/19/13Terminal 5 - NYC

Minus the fact that the crowd was a bit annoying (like always) with excessive pushing and trying to squeeze into areas there was just no room for... ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS! I was somewhat pretty close to Frank which was amazing. He's one of my favorite artist of all time. And let me tell you the guy CAN SING. He sounded soooo perfect. He would walk back and fourth around the stage and was feeling the crowds energy. I'm sure everyone in the venue was more than happy with his performance. I would deff try to attend every Frank Ocean concert located in NY, because he's honestly a great singer. It was also nice seeing members of Odd Future there supporting Frank, even though Tyler and Earl had their own concert that day lol

    AMAAAAZZING! Unforgettable!

by OddJay on 8/17/12Terminal 5 - New York

On stage, Frank was charismatic, charming, and happy. You can tell he sincerely enjoys entertaining his fans. He had this look on his face that showed he was surprised almost everybody was singing almost every lyric along with him. You can feel the love in the venue. That night was all about love. Love for Frank's music. Frank's love for his Fans. And Frank's Fan's love for him... I had a blast. The sound was amazing you could hear the music and his voice crystal clear. His Odd Future family even paid a visit which got the crowd roused before the concert startsed haha. EXCELLENT is an understatement.

Great voice, great stage presence, just an overall excellent performer.

The concert was amazing! I loved that he actually sang the entire time and didn't do the whole "let the crowd sing my song" thing. He sounded great and it was just simply art. The way music should be.

    Frank Ocean solidifies sheer talent

by ElMayimbe3792 on 8/11/12Center Stage Theatre - Atlanta

Frank Ocean did his thing. He displayed decent vocal range, missing virtually none of his notes. He had fun with his music by singing songs that would get the crowd in tune with his quirky weird sort of forte. The live music made it even better. I will MOST DEFINITELY go to see him again. 5 thumbs up.Just an artist singing his music to a crowd of fans. No fire , dancers, back drop and other distractions. Just us and him.

    Frank Ocean DESTROYED Boston

by sethpb on 7/31/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Amazing set. One of the few shows ive been to where the artists voice sounds just as good, if not better than the recordings. The crowd was great. Seeing bad religion and strawberry swing played live was an emotional experience. Would relive 349575975 times if possible.

Frank is a heck of an artist!

by JessBeingPreppy on 7/30/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I have been a big fan of Frank from the time he performed as Lonny Breux to Frank Ocean. The man can sing! He doesn't have fancy dance moves like Usher or a cut body like Trey Songz. But Frank is an artist in his own right and he music is like storytelling. I have never heard anyone like him, he has a unique sound and is a breath of fresh air in the game.

    An incredible experience!!!

by JessFlum on 7/30/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Unbelieaveable! I cannot describe how amazing his performance was! I literally had my jaw dropped the entire evening. He is 10x better in person and definitely has something for everyone to enjoy. His personality is so chill and free-spirited. You can definitely tell that he loves what he's doing. I wish he would have played a few more songs from Channel Orange but I must say he is absolutely superb! Definitely worth the wait and price

    Frank Ocean was FAWESOME!

by MissGFA on 7/30/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

His studio work is nothing compared to seeing him live. His voice is superb and he really has a way with the crowd. Although I hate GA, I would definitely see him again in a heartbeat. The only things I did not like about the show was that his set was only an hour long. I was hoping for more of a two hour performance, especially after waiting so long to enter the venue. Also he didn't play my favorite song, but that's fine, I'll catch him on the next tour. Overall I definitely recommend anyone see Frank Ocean, especially the die hard fans.
