FOURPLAY IN CONCERT:
Iconic smooth jazz quartet Fourplay hold the distinction of being the only music group in history to be recognized by the United States Congress, and it's easy to see why. Comprised of some of the best jazz musicians in the world, the supergroup never fails to dazzle with their virtuosic playing and electrifying chemistry on stage, creating an outsized live sound that belies their humble setup. Featuring selections from more than two decades of recording, Fourplay's 2013 shows hit all the right notes, building excitement for their 2014 tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in 1990 by Bob James, Harvey Mason, Nathan East, and Lee Ritenour, Fourplay made their self-titled album debut in 1991, topping the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums chart for a whopping 33 weeks. Their potent blend of pop, R&B, and smooth jazz clearly struck a chord with audiences — 1993 sophomore album Between the Sheets was a similar success, also topping the charts and receiving a Grammy nomination. Over the years, they've been joined on their recordings by a range of celebrated pop vocalists including Phil Collins, Patti Austin, and Babyface, and they hold the honor of being the only musical group ever honored by the United States Congress. With a host of highly anticipated tour dates scheduled for 2014, fans eagerly await a follow-up album to 2012's lauded Esprit de Four.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"These guys are the most professional, tight, hard playing SMOOTH jazz band I've had the pleasure of seeing live. They played continuously and ebulliently for almost 2 hours!"
"It's hard to believe that two guitars, a piano and drums can put out the sound that Fourplay does. What a talented foursome."
"The musicianship was impeccable, the mood was enchanting, and the energy was electric."

Great concert, great location, fantastic audience! Great opener too,
these guys are the best of the best. Talent galore.
The show was EVERYTHING I PRAYED IT WOULD BE!!!! You'd never know that it's been 20 years since FOURPLAY first came together; even after LEE RITTEOUR AND LARRY CARLTON went to another level....JEFF LOWEB (sp.?) fit right in...JEFF never missed a beat and he had me screaming so loudly, I became hoarse and my husband was just amazed at MY behavior!!! Not to mention when Nate started crooning his new song that he wrote...OMG!!! Le's not forget HARVEY MASON...he threw down!!! playing without his drum sticks...playing with his hands....AND last but certainly NOT LEAST, THE LEGENDARY, BOB JAMES....DOUBLE OMG!!!! I grooved all night long.
Great Group, Fantistic Concert. Don't miss this group
The groups made a perfect combination for a jazz concert. Bob James still has it, and Jay Beckenstein it still getting better.
Great accoustics in the Sound Board. And the two groups were playing beyond expectaions. Both groups were very entertaining.
This is the first time at the casino and I truly enjoyed the concert and venue. The sound was wonderful and the buffet outside of the entrance made it that much more. One issue I had was the seating on the main floor. The chairs were padded well enough but for some reason, I missed having arm rests. However, that was a small issue compared to the show.
I have been a Bob James fan since the 70's . I was also a Lee Ritenour fan before he teamed with Bob James to form Fourplay. I have seen Fourplay perform live concerts many times over the years. It is my favorite group. Let me add,I had no experience with the Sound Board prior to this concert. However it is an excellent venue. The acoustics were terrific and my seats provided an excellent view of everything that took place on the stage. Also the ushers and staff did an excellent job directing me and my wife to our seats. They were courtious and polite. During the concert each of the members of the group was given ample oppurtunity to strut his stuff and demontrate his musical ability. The newest member of the group, Chuck Loeb proved he is capable of maintaining the tradition of the group. Harvey Mason will always be my favorite member of the group.
This was a wonderful concert with two great bands playing awesome music with gusto. Brought everyone to their feet while playing old standards and new music that was just as good. Next time I'm taking my daughter who will remember many of the Spiro Gyra tunes, since we use to play foosball to them all the time. Great memories!
i've seen fourplay @ two other venues & as they usually perform superbly, they outdid themselves @ the fl. theatre this past friday. in this crazy unpredictable world we live in it's great to know they're dependable to transport you to a good place for a few hours. love all four of you; keep up the good work!!!!
This was me and my husband's anniversary night. So, we decided to make a night of it. And we went to see the group, Fourplay. They were fantastic! So, much energy and talk about talent! Thanks for a great night of entertainment!
As always when you four great names together your in for a treat.. I've seen this group before and it's seems as time pasts the show becomes more of a mini concert, doing small exerts from a small variety of songs.. It seemed they were relying on there name as a super group then giving a full performance, Bob didn't even have his signature piano (baby grand).. Bob James being one of my favorite artist of all time, just him in concert would have been better for me.. Sound board did a great job of putting these acts together, don't get that twisted.. As a photographer I followed the guys with camera's in the sound both that I sat behind and he could not have gotten great pictures, what a waste!! How do I get a pass as a photographer? I'll give u photo's you'll want to publish and promote.. Even the acts will want some..
Four play was amazing. They had the audience in their hands. Each musician was great in their own right!
Wonderful concert. They are better than ever. Will see them again if they come back.
Wonderful show....totally enjoyed Fourplay. Would definitely see them again!
Fourplay was amazing! Bob James is a true jazz master
Chucks' guitar could have been a bit louder. Otherwise, awesome.
Fantastic performance by totally talented musicians! What a enjoyable musical event for all who attended! I'm looking forward to their next jazz set in the Detroit area.
Theatre was good and comfortable seats. Love Spryo Gyra. Came to see Fourplay and was not disappointed. Fourplay brought the house down. Great concert.
Yes Fourplay was that good! I'm an avid fan of Fourplay for the past 20 years and the first time I saw them live. They did not disappoint, in fact they met all my expectations and more. The played a nice combination of their his but also redone to show off each of their individual abilities. It was a very nice display of exceptional talent by these amazing musicians. Certainly something that should not be missed. Overall it was a GREAT and unforgettable Fouplay show.
