Great cast, felt true to life. Definitely a blast from the past feeling.
The show was great! I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. What I didn’t enjoy was the band at the end. Fine musicians but so unnecessary.
Really interesting event in history that is captured in an endearing and Entertaining way. The writing and acting are great. Great time at the theatre!
There was a good deal of information on the making of the album, a reasonable amount of background alluded to, but the thing missing in the telling of the stories of the songs was the songs themselves. I understood the nature of the production going into this show and was looking forward to seeing how it would play out. It fell short of my expectations. The band after the play felt as though an afterthought, and it only amplified the absence of why I feel everyone attended.
I knew going into the show that it was not a concert, so I knew not to expect a musical. However, I expected them to show at least show the band playing something together (even for a brief moment) since the show focused on them creating an album. The scenes were too long, packed with wordy dialogue that never really led to anything; it was a show of fly-on-the-wall scenes that didn't come together for a solid story. One of the characters states at the beginning that this is a "memory play" that is both fact and fiction to create a story, which makes it somewhat more of a let down since they had some wiggle room for creating a story. At the end of the show, the production team got together and played about 5-6 of The Ramones's songs for a short concert, which was probably the most exciting thing about it. I went with my dad since he is a self-proclaimed "unassuming punk." He grew up in this scene and still attends events often, but you would never be able to tell since he isn't the typical punk everyone expects to see. He loved the show since it was more nostalgic, painted a picture of who these guys were, and gave hints at the grittiness of living a punk-rock lifestyle, but he agreed that it was not meant for entertainment. For me, if I want a documentary (or something close to it) I'll stay at home and watch the movie, if I want entertainment, I'll go out to the movies or a show. This was neither for me, but a yes from someone in the scene.
I really enjoyed this play. I had read stories about the Ramones but it was interesting to see it played out on the stage! The band at the end really helped bring the show to an end!!
This play has potential, but it's currently not very good. The bones of the story are compelling. The Ramones and Phil Spector has so much potential. Unfortunately, it leaves us with an interesting story but never pulled into anyone (except Joey a little). The Ramones cover band at the end is poor. It's hard to believe with all the local talent, they couldn't have pulled together a better group.
Good play-actors were spot on in portrayal of Ramone’s/Phil n Linda—mannerisms - looks - everything. Appreciated that play wasn’t too long. Loved cozy playhouse!
