Very disappointing show
by kslf on 2/22/14B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkI'm a huge fan of the music of Ray Charles, but unfortunately this show was very very disappointing in terms of the quality of the singing and overall performance. I actually left a few minutes early, and I've never left a show before the end in my life. The biggest and most obvious problem was that the backup singers were just terrible--totally off pitch for much of the time, ruining the music, and frankly, hurting my ears. I was astonished. Another problem was that after a few numbers, the lead singer left the stage for about half an hour, presumably to change clothes, leaving the middle-aged white guys in the band just jamming out, which was totally boring and had nothing to do with Ray Charles. Also, the duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" was painfully awkward and not well sung. And the lead singer doesn't have any personality or charisma and didn't say anything interesting or engaging in between songs, and doesn't seem to know much about Ray Charles or his music. The music direction was also poor--the tempo of a couple numbers was too slow, causing them to drag. It just wasn't good--if I hadn't gotten my tickets for free, I would have asked for a refund.
