British-based indie rock band Foals was originally formed by Jack Bevan and Yannis Philippakis. The duo then brought in Andrew Mears, Walter Gervers and Jimmy Smith as additional members. Following the release of their first single “Try This on Your Piano” in 2006, Mears left the group to focus on his other band, Youthmovies. The remaining members of the group continued, along with new recruit, Edwin Congreave.
The group went on to release their first two major singles in 2007 with “Hummer” and “Mathletics.” Their debut album, Antidotes, was released in 2008, followed by Total Life in 2010. Their most successful album is their 2013 release Holy Fire. They’ve also released a number of EPs from their live shows, including Live At Liars Club and two performances at the iTunes Festival in 2008 and 2010. The band also recorded and released a video of their performance at the Albert Hall.
Known for their stellar live show, the band has undertaken a number of tours across the world. This includes dates in 2014 in the UK and Ireland, as well as a joint tour in the US with Cage the Elephant. In 2013 they played a number of festivals, including a headline slot at Latitude Festival. The band have also received critical acclaim for their performances. In 2013 they won a Q Award for Best Live Act. The group have also received two NME nominations in the same category. During their career, Foals have been nominated twice for the Mercury Music Prize, once in 2010 for the Total Life Forever album and again in 2013 for Holy Fire. In 2010 the single “Spanish Sahara” was nominated for an Ivor Novello award. This song also took the award for Best Track at the 2011 NME Awards.
The band’s influences are extremely mixed. They include the likes of Arthur Russell, The Redneck Manifesto, Harmonia and Talking Heads. Their music has been used in a number of television series, including Entourage, Misfits, Outcasts and Skins. Throughout their career, Foals have drawn massive crowds of fans, packing venues like the 9:30 Club and The Fillmore to capacity.
Best concert! My husband and I were in agreement with this! We saw One republic in the summer and Foals blew them out of the water! Can’t wait to see them again!!!!! Venue was great! We brought food in which was great! Enough staff for drinks! Everyone was nice and professional!
Really a great show. I didn’t realize there was some audience trouble until the lead singer almost stopped the show. Props to security for getting the riff raft out and the show went on without a hitch. Bravo!
We had heard a couple of Foals songs on Alt Nation, thought they were outstanding! We liked the sound and the sight lines at the Fillmore, but were disappointed in the high prices ($13 for a draft beer!), only had one each as a result.
Even after losing a founding member the energy and passion expressed in this 80 minutes will make you feel good about Rock again. Long live foals.
Its my 1st time seeing them. I was blown away. I will definitely see them again. They sound so good live and wow the energy from the lead singer is savage and electrifying. I would recommend to anybody who havent seen Foals live , do it. Its an amazing live performance.
This show was worth the long 3 years from when I first got tickets, pre covid. Yannis brought the energy, despite having a sore throat! Thanks guys! Best show ever!
Wow I was blown away. Funky, rocking, emotional...all the bases were covered as Foals delivered 100 percent. So glad I went!

Foals is a terrific band. The music they performed at the Fox was wonderful. Their light show was awful. Very bright lights shinning and pulsing at the audience was extremely distracting and took away from their performance. I spent almost their entire performance with my eyes closed and a hand over my eyes. With such terrific music why take away from the experience with such an obnoxious light show. They dont need such a contrivance to enhance the experience of watching them perform. Very disappointed.
The Fox Theatre is a fantastic venue to see a show! It’s got it all, a gorgeous theatre, classic wide balcony reserved seating, and a generous GA area downstairs in front of stage. We live it because you can have your live music and dance to it too!!! I mean, cmon! Who wants to sit while listening to a favorite band?!!! The bars are plentiful and we’ll set up to tend to patrons, the sound quality is good. There’s restaurants nearby, The Den NextDoor, so filling up beforehand is easy. The FOALS never disappoint. It was a fantastic show, a good blend of their new and older releases.

There’s a reason why Foals have won numerous ‘Beat Live Show’ awards as they truly are a gift to see live. With extended guitar riffs, bombastic percussion, raw vocals and the addition of electronic music via synths, pounding bass lines and house music instrumentals, this was one deadly show. With a few tracks from each album, it was a crowd pleasing gig that had the house in a frenzy. It was my 3rd Foals gig and the best yet. They have a sound that translates well live as they’re part hard rock, part pop, part guitar rock and part electronic and when it all comes together, it’s a sublime experience as a fan. (See them if you get the chance. I promise you’ll thank me later) Seeing that it was also my birthday, this was a wild show that I won’t soon forget.

Amazing to see Foals in such an intimate venue. One of my all time favourite gigs.
I absolutely love the band, yet the venue needs improvement. There's no seating unless you want to pay extra. I fell earlier in the day due to rain/mud when I was feeding cat colonies. Anyway, it would've been hell if I was badly injured bc most of the seating was upstairs. The downstairs private area with bar chairs didn't look comfortable at all.
The Foals show was fantastic Friday. Great to see Foals in the intimate concert room at the new Tannahills. Foals rocked the doors off the place. They played extended versions on their songs. Can’t wait till they come back to Fort Worth for the show with Paramore at Dickies Arena in 2023.
Foals put on an amazing show at Tannahill’s tavern. This was my first experience at this venue. They still have some kinks to work out but it’s a good space. The band sounded incredible! They are so good! Go see them!!!
