About

Following the release of the much-acclaimed EP Who We Are in 2013, alternative rock group Flyleaf announced its intention to return with a full-length album in 2014. The sheer energy and haunting lyricism of the album echoed qualities of past Flyleaf tours, in which the band fused a unique melodic element with a hard rock feel. Flyleaf’s energetic presence on stage is contagious with guitarists Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya dancing as they strum. The release of Who We Are marked the first major achievements since the step-down of original lead vocalist Lacey Sturm. Immediately following Sturm's departure, new female vocalist Kristen May impressed with her stunning voice and obvious passion, qualities essential in assisting the entire band in the lead-up to its first Kristen May-focused album and associated tour.
Flyleaf began as Passerby, a collaboration between Lacey Sturm and James Culpepper. After joining forces with Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann, the group performed in concerts throughout Texas, eliciting the majority of their ticket purchases from Christian fans bored with the traditional religious music scene. Even with clear demographic trends and frequent allusions to faith in their lyrics, members of Flyleaf refer to themselves not as a Christian rock band, but as members of a rock band who happen to be Christians. Since christening itself Flyleaf in 2004, the band has experienced success in the mainstream music industry, most notably landing on Top 40 radio stations with the single "All Around Me." Subsequent successes have included the release of a second full-length album, Memento Mori, as well as headlining the 2010 Unite & Fight Tour. The band may see a future transition into a less faith-based approach, as Kristen May expressed a desire to take a different route in the 2014 tour.

Awesome show but not loving the venue

by Amimac on 10/28/10AT&T Center - San Antonio

My daughter is a die-hard Flyleaf fan and we had attended their concert in Austin one month earlier. Flyleaf is very unpretentious and she got to see the band before and after the concert. This made her concert experience over the top. Needless to say she was broken hearted when, after she had earned and spent her own money to see them in San Antonio, the AT& T Center security was so tight that she was unable to even catch a glimpse of them other than on stage. So, if you're looking for a great concert, Flyleaf is definitely a great one. But if you want to be able to meet and talk to the band, don't see them at the AT&T Center.

    Sights vs. Sounds

by AlamedaRocks on 10/25/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Flyleaf was engaging, especially from a visual standpoint. But their show was marred by typically lame "hard rock" sound mixing that overemphasized sound pressure levels (along with way too much bass) to the detriment of everything else. Lacey's vocals were swallowed up by all those long standing waves and her lyrics were impossible to hear in the din. I just don't understand why sound mixers think too much is right for this kind of show. Volume isn't a substitute for clarity and real emotion, and these musicians are way too good to be drowned in a sea of their own sonic soup. The band was wearing in-ear monitors, so I'm sure they have no idea how punishing the sound was to the audience.

by kaycee3 on 10/24/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Flyleaf always puts on a good show. just wish I could see them a little closer to home. If you haven't been lucky enough to see them yet make sure you rectify that. They rock.

Flyleaf concert was Unforgettable and Rocked!!!

by flyleaf23 on 10/24/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Flyleaf was Fantastic from beginning to end. It was just as I had imagined it-Awsome, Amazing, Perfect, and Beautiful. The Regency Ballroom is a smaller venue, but that is what made the concert so intense. Lacey's Beautiful voice and the band's intense performance rocked the hell out of The Regency. The entire band was perfectly in tune with each other. Not one person was disappointed, from beginning to end, song after song the atmosphere just kept getting more and more intense. Everyone could see and feel Lacey's energy in every song. The crowd fed off it and everyone kept singing louder and louder. Every time Lacey spoke to the crowd, not one body moved as if we had been entranced by her words. She had so much love and appreciation of life in all her speeches that you couldn't help but just want to burst out in tears of joy. She was inspiring to everyone. She made you feel like if you had any demons in your life that you can defeat them, you just have to believe in yourself. And with her testimony about her own life, you knew it to be true. The best concert I have ever been to hands down. It was well worth driving 230 miles and missing work. Hope everyone who gets a chance to go see flyleaf takes full advantage.

    Lots of fun

by muskrat007 on 10/22/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

This venue is AMAZING. Close and personal show with a full bar inside the event. Loved the small, up close atmosphere. Drinks were like $9 but they were very strong and made with good liquor so we were ok with that. Story of the Year opened and they did a great job of working the crowd and getting the energy up. Flyleaf was energetic, emotional, and awesome! Lacey leveled with the crowd while the band members rallied around her. So many people smoking weed made it hard to breath for those who are non-smokers, wish they would consider other people.

There's just no band like Flyleaf. I went for spiritual reasons, though everyone clearly enjoyed it. And it is well worth it to go and connect with them face to face, no matter how well you know the songs, they will become new to you again.

Story of the Year puts on the best live show!

by triggz on 10/20/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

I have seen story of the year many times and they never dissapoint! The crowd and venue fit my concert behavior to a tee! Was able to have some beers, walk around, get up to the front row without a problem, mosh without getting injured, crowd surf, and probably best of all got to meet the band by their tour bus after the show. Flyleafs music sounded good but the singing was difficult to understand because it was being drowned out by the music. The singer also kept using the breaks in between songs to bring attention to her religous beliefs and other social issues in the world, which is not my idea of a good rock show.

Flyleaf and Story of the Year

by CaraG on 10/20/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Best show I seen in a while. Very high energy and they sounded great. Loved the positive messages and would definitely see Flyleaf again. So worth it. Not to mention Story of the Year rocked and owned the stage. I'm from their hometown and it's nice to see them have the same high spirits.

by Alex200507 on 10/20/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

FLYLEAF AND STORY OF THE YEAR WAS INCREDIBLE! TO BE HONEST I WAS A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT SEEING STORY OF THE YEAR BECAUSE I HADNT HEARD FROM THEM SINCE I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL BUT THEY WERE AMAZING! THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB I CAN TOTALLY SEE WHY FLYLEAF WOULD ASK STORY OF THE YEAR TO TOUR WITH THEM!! I WAS IN THE FRONT ROW AND IT COULDNT HAvE BEEN MORE FANTASTIC OR AMAZING THAN I WOULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED!!!! I HAVE WAITED ALONG TIME TO BE ABLE TO SEE FLYLEAF AND IT WAS INCREDIBLE IM THINKING OF GOING AGAIN JUST BECAUSE IT WAS THAT GREAT!!!!

    Flyleaf was Amazing

by Bea77 on 10/20/10The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

I was so happy to go to this concert. Lacey, the lead vocal, was amazing. She sounded just like her records. The guitarists and drummer just rocked it. I loved that their performance did not overshadow the songs they sang. Sometimes when you go to concerts they put on huge performances and you don't understand what the band is singing, but this was not the case. I can not wait to see them again!!! They are truly uplifting!
