About

FKA TWIGS IN CONCERT:

With her striking image and sultry voice, British up-and-comer FKA Twigs has the trip hop game on lock. Combining off-kilter R&B rhythms, undulating synth textures, and heavily processed vocals, the young singer boasts a truly original sound, and she backs up her expertly produced recordings with equally masterful performances. She may be a relative newcomer, but she's no amateur -- from her elegantly understated movements to the sensual vulnerability of her vocals on tracks like "Feed Me" and "How's That", FKA twigs delivers one unforgettable performance after another on her must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in small-town Britain, FKA Twigs, a.k.a. Tahliah Barnett, moved to London at age 17 with the hopes of becoming a dancer. After landing several gigs dancing in music videos, she self-released her debut EP in late 2012, quickly receiving praise from critics for her otherworldly vocals and the EP's slick production. She signed with British indie label Young Turks for the release of 2013's EP 2, another critical success that was accompanied by a series of visually stunning videos made in collaboration with director Jesse Kanda. With her debut album hitting shelves in 2014, FKA Twigs has ticket buyers eagerly awaiting the opportunity to catch her live.

Her videos are amazing, but I never thought she could be even better live. Simply an incredible performer. She should be selling our stadiums.

    Best Show Ever!

by Louis on 11/24/19Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

This was literally the most incredible experience of my life, except for two days in a row they opened the doors to the theater too early and despite waiting from 1:00pm to 7:00pm to actually go inside (first in line) people still got in front of me. The venue needs to work on organization. Despite that twigs did not disappoint one bit. Her vulnerability and pure talent shone through and there was not one second where I found myself wanting more. Even the dancers alone were enough to entertain. Great job everyone!

    Phenomenal

by Beat Rice on 11/24/19Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Kings Theatre was breathtaking. Every ornate detail was skillfully crafted and there was not a bad seat in the house. The perfect venue for FKA Twigs's incredible performance! Blown away by her multi-level talents and striking presence. One of the best shows I've seen this year!

    A Woman's Place

by L on 11/22/19House of Blues Boston presented by Cricket Wireless - Boston

The performance itself may have been the most beautiful I've ever seen. However, some of the concert goers were terrible. Since I'm 4'10", I came early to be able to actually see something, and I found a perfect spot at the mezzanine. But after the fire alarm, I returned to the mez and only found a decent spot between two men at the railing, one of them 6'3"+. Both of them were aware of me and my inability to see, but did not help me out at all. When the concert started, I had no choice but to go on my knees and watch between their legs and the spaces between the railing. One of them actually scoffed at me. I spent the entire concert at their feet. It's ironic that FKA twigs sings so much about being a woman, yet these people refused to each move two inches to allow me a place to see.

the show was great :) the venue was not :(

by This will be displaced publicly on 11/22/19House of Blues Boston presented by Cricket Wireless - Boston

FKA twigs is a great performer. Very talented and beautiful voice. 5 stars for her and her crew! On the other hand, let's just say that House of Blues in Boston needs to upgrade their sound system and just leave it at this... Oh, did I mention the fire drill? 2 stars for them.

    AMAZING

by RJ on 11/22/19House of Blues Boston presented by Cricket Wireless - Boston

Wish I could see her again, she was phenomenal. Had a good spot until the fire alarm went off and then lost it as we all had to go outside and re-enter :(

    Great talent, terrible venue

by Ang on 11/20/19REBEL - Toronto

FKA twigs was amazing, as expected. Vocals, choreography, costumes 10/10 Unfortunately, REBEL is probably one of the worst concert venues in Toronto that I've been to. A lot of people around me had issues seeing anything on stage. There were at least 3 people in front of me that fainted, either from being packed in like sardines or just standing for long periods of time on your toes, knees locked, and neck craning to see the stage. The sound booth is in the middle of the floor and I really think it should be moved either further back. It's probably why everyone pushes to the front in attempt to see past the sound booth. Very poor reception inside, making it really difficult to locate friends. The only cool thing to REBEL is when they shoot confetti. I would avoid any future concerts at this venue. 1/10

    Art

FKA is absolutely stunning. The venue was a horrible choice - a performance like that needs to be in a venue that allows for proper dance/choreography.

    Wish I was taller

by Lola on 11/9/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

The show was amazing, FKA is amazing. However, in a theater where are seats I assumed that people would be sitting down to watch the performance. People at the front stood up so then everyone began to stand to see better. Lots of people were yelling at people to sit down. If I had known it was a show that you stand up I would've run to the front and or paid less because, in the end, all the tall men in front of me made it impossible to see anything.

    by C. E. on 11/9/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

FKA twigs show was a mesmerizing clash between classical and modern theatre. She delivered flawless vocals and commanded the stage with her dancing. Lights and staging were beautifully done; everything came together... a show that should not be missed!

    Lots of growth.

by Aug on 11/7/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Much better experience than the time she visited at the Showbox market. This venue was much better suited for her show. It was fantastic, even for someone who isn’t singing pop bops, she still manages to keep the entire venue in awe with her very skilled performance. My only issue is with the acoustics for the venue, like with almost all venues in Washington he acoustics are just not well adapted. Too much noise and not enough clarity, but overall I’d go again and again to see her.

Good performance but unfocused in some places

    by JL-33 on 11/7/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

I was really looking forward to this. Twigs’ output over the last five years has been some of the most interesting pop/glitch I’ve heard. While very good, the show did not, at least for me, live up to the hype. When it worked it really shone through - such as on Mary Magdalene, Two Weeks, Cellophane and Lights on. But at the same time, I found the lack of focus on the musicians-either relegated to the background of the stage or completely invisible for much of the show-to be a little disheartening. Similarly, the use of pre-recorded material was problematic to me. I’ve seen other live performances where Twigs didn’t rely so heavily on pre-recorded tracks to make up the deficit. Even on many of the songs here you could make out the quality of her voice. Was a shame she didn’t push the envelope more on the vocal front. Presumably we were meant to be more engaged with the physical routines, but some of those-particularly the swordplay, were at best misplaced and at worst culturally appropriative. The costumes were fantastic - but the changes necessitated additional periods where there was literally nothing happening on stage and the audience was left listening to prerecorded instrumentals, rather than the skilled musicians she brought with her. Overall I did like the show, and maybe if I went in with lower expectations I would’ve been raving about it, rather than lukewarm. But if I had to give it a ranking I’d say - it’s fine.
