About

In First Wives Club, based on the smash hit 1996 film and Olivia Goldsmith’s bestselling novel, three former college friends reunite to find that they have more in common than their alma mater! Ditched by their respective husbands for younger women, they band together to settle scores with the men who did them wrong. Featuring a new book by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason (Designing Women), known for having created some of popular culture’s most empowered female characters, songs – both original and classic – by Motown legends Holland-Dozier-Holland, and direction by Simon Phillips (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical), First Wives Club is a hilarious and inspiring story about friendship at its strongest… and revenge at its sweetest.

    Very Fun

by WheezerP on 3/25/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

It truly was a fun play to see -- great music and dance and enjoyable acting of the storyline. It was MUCH BETTER than what the "critics" said it was. A great girls night out in a beautiful theater too.

    Fun play for women!

by CarolinaHHI on 3/25/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I went with my two girls and my sister. This is such a fun musical for a girls night out. My 25 and 27 year old girls liked it as much as me. The casting of the characters was really great. The music was good. The only thing that really bummed my girls out is they did not play the " You Don't Own Me " song at the end or anywhere. That's THE song we associate The First Wives Club with! It should have been in there. Other than that, it was great.

This musical was hilarious and absolutely wonderful! I loved the movie and musical was just as amazing! The cast did an awesome job and had outstanding voices! I can definitely see why this musical is Broadway bound.

    Good, not great but entertaining

by LilLila on 3/25/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We enjoyed the day. The show was good, but it dragged a bit. I love the movie, it was pretty close to the story line. My mom liked it and thought it was cute. No raves however, but it was entertaining. They could use a little more humor. Surprising to see so many empty seats.

    First Wives amazing!

by suitegal on 3/24/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The First Wives Club was an amazing play. Actors were exceptional. We were even lucky enough to be upgraded to the main floor which made the experience wonderful. The message the play sent about friendship really touched my heart. Will tell everyone i know how great this was!

Amazing cast! We probably saw the movie one too many times not to make correlations which was the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars.

    Not the best

by Anonymous on 3/23/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I found the actors talented but the story very flat. I was disappointed with the flow of the story. Again the actors did their jobs but the music, script and the play itself did not entertain myself or the person I was with. Out of 10, I have a 6 and my friend only gave a 3!

    Dated First Wives Club

by WJMR on 3/23/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had really looked forward to seeing this play. I had loved the movie and thought the musical would be great. I was wrong. The story needed updating. The conflicts of stature between men and women have changed a great deal since 1992. The plot, sadly, did not work. The Motown music, was the best element. The original songs were lackluster. The performers, while all very talented, seemed uninspired. I love theater and enjoy most everything I see. While there were some fun moments in this show, I would suggest that the writers make some major changes and give this show a shot of energy before they take it to Broadway.

Superbly acted! Play was funny from beginning to end and actors made a real connection with audience. Very well written and musical numbers were wonderfully. I would see it again and again!

For $75.00, it's fun. Not winning a Tony. Great set design.

    First Wives Club

by NewMusicFan on 3/21/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Dreadful. Unnecessarily snarky and mean-spirited storyline, too many narrative gaps in the storytelling, and, frankly, not funny. Stay at home. Rent the movie. This musical is NOT ready for Broadway.

    Loved it!

by OneLovelyMiss on 3/20/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

It was really good. I really enjoyed it. This is one of my favorite movies, so to see it done so well was amazing. The leads were great, and the one who played Elise actually sounded like Goldie Hawn which was crazy! The slower songs could probably be tweaked, because it felt a little forced. That each character has a slow solo. But other than that, I really enjoyed it!

The leading ladies made it worthwhile!

by JoeRo81 on 3/20/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Overall, I would give it a pretty good. The three leading ladies plus Shelly were amazing. The husbands and the rest of the cast did not stand up to the power of the leading ladies. There were some slow points and I even considered laving at intermission. However, the end of the Act 1 really picked up and we stayed. The second act was much stronger, but again had some slow parts and picked up at the end. I would recommend, but think the creative team could tighten everything up before its Broadway debut.

    A lot of Fun!

by ChocolateDLR on 3/20/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I have seen many live musicals and this was one of the best. Many, many funny lines and story line was tweeked a bit different from the movie but still works. You know its a good show when the house lights go on and everyone is smiling and commenting on how much fun it was to watch.

    First Wives Club was Outstanding!

by Cammoose on 3/20/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I really enjoyed this play and all of the players and dancers were a joy to watch. The acting and singing was fabulous. I couldn't pass up the great price for the ticket for the Tuesday, March 17, 2015 performance. I am glad I went and would highly recommend everyone to see it. And, if you are part of the First Wives Club, or maybe the Second Wives Club, you will enjoy it even more. Go see it!!
