FAILURE IN CONCERT:

Failure are masters of textural nuance, setting themselves apart from their '90s alt-rock counterparts with painstaking attention to sound design, complex signal processing, and creative use of guitar effects. After breaking up in 1997, Failure's cult popularity steadily grew as big-name acts like A Perfect Circle and Paramore paid tribute to the band with covers of their beloved recordings, so it's no surprise that their 2014 reunion has fans chomping at the bit for a chance to see them live. It's been more than 16 years since the trio have played together, but the band's extensive rehearsals in anticipation of the tour have them ready and raring to deliver the goods.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Los Angeles in 1990, Failure carved a niche for themselves among alternative rock circles with their unique attention to sonic detail and sound design. Their Steve Albini-produced 1992 debut Comfort was a moderate success and landed them on tour with Tool, but when they returned to the studio to record a follow-up the band decided to assume production duties themselves. The result was 1994's Magnified, a critical success that earned the band recognition for the album's intricately layered production set the stage for extensive touring. Their third album Fantastic Planet was released in 1996, landing them on MTV and earning them their first chart success with single "Stuck on You." Despite the praise and popularity, stress and tension within the band proved too much and in 1997 they disbanded citing personal differences. In 2014 the band reunited after a 16-year hiatus, thrilling fans with the announcement of a highly anticipated reunion tour.

    Failure was a success

by dontyoudar on 5/28/14Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

I'd been waiting over 18 years to see Failure, and I was not disappointed. They performed a lot of material from their classic album "Fantastic Planet," as well as other key tracks. I'm glad that Saint Andrews Hall was once again the location for what instantly became one of my most memorable shows of all time.

Failure was pretty fantastic on this planet!

A show I thought I would never get to see, it was a great performance. Ken's voice is back! They were loud and tight, there was some distortion but it was probably the venue. Traveled from Cleveland to this show and I am very glad I did. Great set list too!

Failure was simply amazing! Worth the 16 year wait

by Aaron1ak on 5/28/14Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

The movie instead of an opening act was a great idea. It helped me understand more of where the music is coming from. It also built up anticipation for the crowd. We all went crazy as we saw scenes of Failure intertwined within the James Bond movie. By the time we could hear the opening drumline from "Another Space Song" the crowd was going crazy. When the movie screen went up to reveal Failure the crowd was ushered into a state of euphoria that had built for the last 16 years. Failure then but on the most amazing show. Just don't make us wait another 16 years. P. s. play in Cleveland next time

    Fantastic!

Failure was absolutely fantastic. Such a treat to get to see them in such a small club. The Sound was incredible which is mostly due to Ken Andrews and their Sound Guy. Watching and hearing Greg Edwards play is inspiring. Kelli Scott pounds on the drums harder than most people I watch play and his ability to play appropriately for the song never ceases to amaze me. So glad I got to see this show.

It's pretty incredible when a band stops touring and playing shows for 16 years to be able to come back and sound just like it did in the mid 90s. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards both put on outstanding performances, and never left the show feeling bored or hollow. If you enjoy mid 90s alternative, this is a show not too miss
