FAILURE IN CONCERT:

Failure are masters of textural nuance, setting themselves apart from their '90s alt-rock counterparts with painstaking attention to sound design, complex signal processing, and creative use of guitar effects. After breaking up in 1997, Failure's cult popularity steadily grew as big-name acts like A Perfect Circle and Paramore paid tribute to the band with covers of their beloved recordings, so it's no surprise that their 2014 reunion has fans chomping at the bit for a chance to see them live. It's been more than 16 years since the trio have played together, but the band's extensive rehearsals in anticipation of the tour have them ready and raring to deliver the goods.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Los Angeles in 1990, Failure carved a niche for themselves among alternative rock circles with their unique attention to sonic detail and sound design. Their Steve Albini-produced 1992 debut Comfort was a moderate success and landed them on tour with Tool, but when they returned to the studio to record a follow-up the band decided to assume production duties themselves. The result was 1994's Magnified, a critical success that earned the band recognition for the album's intricately layered production set the stage for extensive touring. Their third album Fantastic Planet was released in 1996, landing them on MTV and earning them their first chart success with single "Stuck on You." Despite the praise and popularity, stress and tension within the band proved too much and in 1997 they disbanded citing personal differences. In 2014 the band reunited after a 16-year hiatus, thrilling fans with the announcement of a highly anticipated reunion tour.

An amazing, humble performance, as always

by Eddie on 4/1/19Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

It’s always a pleasure to see Failure perform locally, I only wish they’d come around more often! A simple, humble, and passionate performance by a great group of guys that clearly love what they do and are appreciative of their faithful fans. The setlist held something for everyone and featured a wide range of moods and different performances by Ken, Greg and Kelli. Great to see new, younger crowds of fans present as well amongst the older folks. The Paradise is a great, safe venue for this band to perform in, with an intimate setting and very relaxed, non-aggressive atmosphere of friendly, happy folks present. Highly recommended band to see live!

by Mr Frosty on 3/30/19Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

This is the best small-venue show I have ever seen. The sound, the music, the lighting were ALL excellent. I wish I could go see all of these bands again.

    Phenomenal!

by jw23mind on 3/30/19Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Greatest band of the '90s which nobody knows about. Actually, not fair as they have come out with two great albums this decade, and have toured extensively. This was the 4th time I've seen them since their reformation. No video effects this time probably due to the smaller venue, but they don't really need it as their music is so colorful and engaging. Performance itself was fantastic as always. Incredible tight control of their sound also as always. Must see!

    Phenomenal!

by JaredH on 3/26/19Spirit Hall - Pittsburgh

I’ve seen Failure many times before this show, and while they were all great, this one absolutely blew me away. From the song selections, to the lights, and especially the tightness of the band (not to mention the sheer volume!), it goes up there as one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen!

    Failure were amazing!

    by rhoadster91 on 10/18/16Masquerade - Atlanta

Got to see the band perform up close. There was some delay at the start of the concert but the event was worth the wait. Fantastic Planet is definitely their best album yet and it was fun to be a part of its 20th anniversary celebration.

I've never seen Failure before in concert, but loved their album Fantastic Planet so I was super excited to see that they were doing a reunion tour for this album. I'm so glad I bought tickets for this show, because it was absolutely amazing. Even after 20 plus years, Failure definitely can put on a great show. I was so impressed with how well they sounded, I left the show completely gushing and felt as if I'd had a legit spiritual moment during this show. Hands down one of the most intimate and beautiful concerts I've been to. If you are as much of a fan of Failure as I am, this is a tour you must attend and you are guaranteed to leave being more in awe of them as I did.

by CoolKeith on 10/16/16Masquerade - Atlanta

Awesome show. Ibe listened to the album for 20 years. Was food to see how many other Failure fans there are. Everyone was dancing, singing and smiling the whole time. Awesome vibe!

    Mesmerizing experience

    by Gretzky80 on 10/16/16Masquerade - Atlanta

Not only has Failure maintained their unique and penetrating style of rock, they sound just as crisp and concise as they did years ago. What an incredible show. You won't just hear the music, it's all sound sensory bliss.

Failure is a welcome change to the Millennial crap

by Toolmusic11 on 7/26/16The Catalyst - Santa Cruz

I'm not exactly sure why I missed out on this band in the nineties but, I don't regret it now ! They offer a refreshing change to the Millennial crap that is being regurgitated today and that includes their oldest recordings. They have found a place in my list of favorite bands including Tool, Queens of the Stone age and A Perfect Circle which is, I know, obvious because of their ties to these bands. They offer something truly unique and real in a world of the trite and mundane! Thanks guys! Looking forward to seeing you again, soon!

    FAILURE IS BACK!!

by LocalH on 10/13/15Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

The show incredible (Torch and Hum were great). The venue was perfect. It used to be called "The Edge" back in the 1990s, were I saw The Toadies, Faith No More and Local H. The sound and view was great as I was able get a seat on the blocked-off steps just in front of the sound board. Failure played the first (new) songs from the Heart is a Monster album. They also pulled-off some hits from Comfort, Magnified and of course Fantastic Planet albums. "Enjoy the Silence" cover from their Replicants work was a cool surprise as well. Afterwords I was able to meet Failure (Ken, Greg & Kelly) for the first time. They were professional, humble and funny. There were fans there (besides myself) who were at their last show at " The Squeeze" in Ft. Lauderdale in 1997. It was like a reunion with friends. They all signed my original "Fantastic Planet" promo poster and I joked with Ken that I was looking forward to the next five albums! This is truly the most under appreciated band by the music listening populist and most hard-working and talented group of guys out there. I give them full credit for coming back after almost two decades.

Amazing sound, great display, and Troy is back!

by Vebb on 10/13/15Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Hands down, the best- sounding live show I've went to; the band was balanced completely, Ken's vocals were prominent but didn't drown out everything else, and the music was still able to be dynamic. For this tour, they ended up playing a lot from the new album, which didn't bother me only because they actually sound better live then I remember on just CD! They pulled out the classic tunes and engaged the audience in only that way nostalgia can handle. And they had some interesting visuals on LED screens behind them! Out ranged from planets to microscopic images to quick glances of the real world for every song, and it managed to match every pulse played. Openers were Torche and Hum. Torches as incredibly unbalanced sonically, which was a shame, but two songs really stuck out at me (the two were from the album Harmonicraft) and sounded really good live. Hum is a must-see, despite vocals not reaching to perfection over the band as well. These guys know how to make incredible music, the show is worth going to.

Great show, Hum is amazing. Royale Boston is a great venue; this was my first time there. Great sound, great small place, lines were not big to get drinks. Great night all around.

    Still awesome

by NogodZ on 8/17/15The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The last time I saw Hum was in 1998 at the TLA in Philly. On this co-headline bill, they opened first. They sounded every bit as fresh and tight as that night 17 years ago. The vocals were a bit too far down in the mix I felt, but everything else was spot on. I'd not seen Failure live before - and I left regretting that oversight. Unlike Hum, the vocals were crisp and on par with the guitars and drums.

    Couldn't have asked for more

    by Bullhead14 on 7/6/15Liberty Hall - Lawrence

I never thought in a million years that I would ever get to see this band, even with them having reformed. However, an impromptu 6 hour drive to Kansas definitely paid off in the end. For just 3 guys, the sound they produced was absolutely massive, and they played a good amount of all the fan favorites, as well as quite a few of their fantastic new songs. The energy in the room was electric, and you could really tell how happy everyone was to finally see this band, as many fans appeared quite young and were probably unable to see the band back in the 90's. After the show, a handful of us even hung around their tour bus in the hopes that the band would come say hello, and boy did they deliver. Drummer Kelli Scott was out first, and was literally holding conversations with everyone and seemed very happy to meet us and sign autographs/take pictures. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards came out as well, and they too were extremely nice and very open to spending time with everyone and taking pictures and signing anything you had. You could just tell how appreciative everyone in this band was of their fans, and there were no jerky egos whatsoever. Overall, this was truly a night to remember and I am very glad that I made the trip to see this very special band.
