EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY IN CONCERT:

Post-rockers Explosions in the Sky treat audiences to a blissed-out musical adventure any time they play their stunning instrumentals in concert. The group’s three guitarists gracefully pluck complex melodies and weave in gorgeous harmonies to lift listeners’ moods on each transcendent track. The rhythm section enhances the group’s dynamic focus, running the gamut between subtle orchestral rolls and earth-shaking marches on standout numbers like “Your Hand in Mine”, “Let Me Back In”, and “Disintegration Anxiety”. With their virtuosic musicianship, ambitious songwriting, and electric showmanship, Explosions in the Sky sweeps ticket buyers up and takes them on an impressionistic journey every time they perform.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Austin, TX post-rockers Breaker Morant were inspired to change their name to Explosions in the Sky after watching fireworks erupt overhead following a 1999 gig at a local radio station. Under the new moniker, Michael James (guitar/bass), Munaf Rayani (guitar), Mark Smith (guitar) and Chris Hrasky (drums) got right to work, making their debut the following year with the album How Strange, Innocence. Recognizing the cinematic qualities of the group’s emotionally charged instrumentals, film producer Brian Reitzell reached out to Explosions in the Sky to compose the soundtrack for the 2004 major motion picture Friday Night Lights, which gave the band more mainstream exposure. Over the years the group has become renowned for their impassioned live performances and stirring albums, including 2016’s critically-acclaimed album The Wilderness.

Amazing as Always with a few technical issues

by Benji on 9/28/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

My 4th time seeing Explosions and by far the LOUDEST. When the entire band would reach peak crescendo, it sounded as if the right speaker bank was going to blow out. Love this band, and love the venue!

EITS was great, venue was great

by kirnkorner2001 on 9/24/23The Pageant - St Louis

EITS was great and The Pageant is a great venue. 2nd time I have seen them at this location, they do not disappoint. The opener (Fister) was not my particular cup of tea. I am not a fan of death metal. It seems to be an odd pairing musically. Even the folks that were sitting around us were confused.

    Transcendent

by Josiah on 9/24/23The Pageant - St Louis

I’ve never been so moved by a concert in my life. This is the kind of show where it’s worth closing your eyes for some time to let your imagination go to the places the music is taking you.

    Wonderful band.

by Deadhead on 9/21/23White Oak Music Hall - Pulse Power Stage on the Lawn - Houston

Felt more like a cattle yard than a music venue. Not very comfortable…

    Fantastic show, sound was perfect

by Mbourgon on 9/20/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Getting to the venue: mobbed. Parking seemed like it would suck, but lucked into a free spot 50 feet from the entrance. Massive line to park, though. Getting in was handled well, metal detectors, no biggie. Opening act, frankly, didn’t see, to fit the opening act, but it seemed like on each date this tour they were going with some of different local band. The venue itself was a good size, bars seemed well stocked, merch was plentiful and reasonable. The show was fantastic. Sound was perfect. Light show to go with the music was more than I expected and worked really well. Good choice of songs, 90 minutes or so for the set, only downside there was no encore. Really surprised that Gilley’s hosted it, but they did great!

Have followed EITS for years AND THIS WAS THEIR BEST CONCERT BY FAR. THE EVENT STAFF AND SECURITY AT SOUTHSIDE BALLROOM WAS FIRST RATE! The whole email was incredibly entertaining and worth every penny

    Everything I Needed

by Stinger on 9/19/23White Oak Music Hall - Pulse Power Stage on the Lawn - Houston

I started listening to them when I was in high school, I’m now 35 and still emotionally still gets me. My eyes watered and they started with my favorite song from an older album. Loved it

We needed three or four more songs

by Gee on 9/19/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

The only negative to this concert didn't have to do with the artist or the venue. It had to do with people talking during the show when it's a moderate volume instrumental show it was really distracting. I would like to see them in a place where you can sit down and maybe not have so many people chit-chatting

    Sound issues?

by Steve on 9/19/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

This was my 4th time seeing Explosions in the sky and maybe 10th time at SouthSide Ballroom. While the show was amazing overall and the venue is great, it really seemed like their were some sound issues the band and the venue’s crew were having to deal with before they went on to perform possibly delaying their time on stage. Usually Explosions play for 1.5 hours and left at 1 hour 15 minutes. From my point of view, because of the possible sound issues delaying 15 minutes, the band had to cut one or two songs from their set list, which really sucks. I hope they return to SouthSide nonetheless

    Mind Blown

by Juancho on 9/19/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Explosions in the Sky split atoms with their patented soul penetrating sound. Reminded me of the Sigur Ros Takk performance without the singing and orchestra but it felt like they each were playing 3 instruments with the depth of their sonic booming instrumental poetry. I used to see them in Austin back in the pre Friday Night Lights days at the indoor setting at Stubbs. They still have it!!!

by KP and daughter on 10/21/19The Sylvee - Madison

I did not even know about this band, but trusted my 19 y.o daughter on her picks to see a concert together (She knows what both of us would like). Loved the music, the energy on stage, talent, and light show. Would go see them again! Please come back to Madison!

The venue was great. Parking near by was easy with the parking garage next to the venue. 8 dollars to park. The band was just amazing! Such a memorable night.

    Excellent set

by a. Lane on 10/14/19The Ritz - Raleigh

I was honestly a little nervous going to see this band that I love listening to because they are instrumental only. I didn't know how engaging it would be. However, they blew me away... I really enjoyed the entire concert and the venue was wonderful!
