    Experience Hendrix was Outstanding

by eileenpir on 11/8/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

I have to say I was blown away by the show and the talent displayed on one stage. I am a bit partial to Jonny Lang who was fanatastic as usual, but Kenny Wayne Shephard was outstanding as well. Although I did not know each artist to the same degree (I had heard of everyone of them) each one was better than the next. You get some much more value than the price of the ticket. I would actually go and see it again if I could. Awesome, absolutely awesome........

Fantastic show, see it if you can!

by CliffG123 on 11/7/10The MGM Grand at Foxwoods - Mashantucket

Being a long time guitarist and Hendrix fan, this show was incredible. To see Ernie Isley, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Steve Vai in a single 2 hour show was fantastic. Great to see Billy Cox, and drummer Chris Layton was so good keeping it all "in the pocket". He looked like he was barely breathing, one of the best blues/rock drummers on the planet. They were all great, but Kenny Wayne Shepherd stole the show, simply ripped it up on both Voodoo Chile songs, and Come On, and would have made Jimi proud, no doubt about it. MGM Grand is a great place to see a show, there isn't a bad seat in the place. They had some great shots of the guitar playing on the two screens on either side of the theatre. The only annoying thing was that they were turning some of the video into that black and white out of focus trippy view. When they did that, you couldn't see what they were playing.

Was a good show, not great

by BufTom on 11/6/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

Many talented musicians, but the sound quality was poor, difficult to hear several artist. Beside sound, I never felt the essence of Hendrix's work on stage.

    What an Experience

by JimKas on 11/5/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

The night was an amazing opportunity to see a wide variety of performers I had never seen before... first Ernie Isley opened the show with Billy Cox & Chris Layton of Double Trouble... and it never slowed down all night... The guys from Living Color just tore the place up... Eric Johnson was great ... playing Drifting, Burning of the Midnight Lamp & finally... Are You Experienced... Johnny Lang was awesome playing along with Brad Whitford... on All Along the Watchtower, & Fire... for me the stand out performer was the man I'd never heard of... Mato Nanji of Indigeous, who joined Johnny Lang & Brad Whitford in a lick fest while playing Spanish Castle Magic... it was fantastic... Mato went on to perform Little Wing & an awsome version of Hear My Train a Comin'... of all the notables on stage... I felt Mato was the most Jimi pure of them all... For me.. as a guitar player myself... it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the likes of Whitford, Lang, Johnson, Robert Randolf, Vernon Reid & Steve Vai all for the first time, the same stage, trading licks and honoring one of best there ever was... It was just like a mini Eric Clapton Guitar Festival... a night I'll remember for sure!

    Hendrix - a failed attempt

by Ray53 on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

We spent $180 + and were terribly disappointed. In fact we left about mid-way thru the show. The sound was absolutely terrible. It was supposed to be about Hendrix and Guitar work. All we could hear was the "all powerful" kick drum. The guitar work was over shadowed by distortion due to over-driven PA. Vocals were un-intelligible, cymbals barely made it thru. The sound men, or at least the person in charge of the kick drum had it mixed for his rattle mobile and his favorite sound of ultra powerful sub bass beats CD- not for a follower of Hendrix and listening to the detail work of the excellent performers. Only when there was a quiet time where the bass drum wasn't being hit were things ok. We were not the only one's complaining and yelling "bring down the kick drum". This was the only event I ever attented that I wished I could get a refund. Sorry it was very very bad. Whomever was in charge of sound failed miserably with the event. As a result I will be extremely hesitant to risk wasting that sum of money again at this venue.

    too loud

by MikeMacD on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

The lineup was excellant, the musicianship was excellent, but the volume was out of control. It was so loud that the vocals were unintelligable. We sat center stage, row n. Great seats, great venue but way too loud, The music sounded muddy.

    Experience Hendrix

by Beamin on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

Great line up of artists for this years event. The Center for the Arts on the UB campus in Buffalo NY is one of the best place to see live music, and was the perfect venue for this show. From the first song to the last the artists were constanantly revolving in and out to play with each other... The set list was awesome, and a great tribute to Jimi!

    A disgrace to Hendrix

by NGBB on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

The guitarists may have been good but you couldn't understand or hear any of the words to the songs. Walked out after 45 minutes. Hopefully it got better for the remainder who stayed. We saw others walking out when we were leaving.

    Everything I hoped for!

by Hollyj515 on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

The Experience Hendrix show was everything I hoped for and more! I was hoping to see Kenny Wayne Shepard. He wasn't there, but was replaced by Mato Nanji, who kicked butt, and sounded more like Stevie Ray Vaughan than anyone I've ever heard, and Brad Whitford from Aerosmith, who ripped it up on All Along the Watchtower while Jonny Lang sang and played an acoustic rhythm. I thougt Living Colour stole the show with their "crowd participation" version of Crosstown Traffic. Their lead player traded licks with Steve Vai and Robert Randolph on slide, and every guitar player in the house was in heaven. I thought it a little odd that Eric Johnson was included, since his style is much more mellow and jazzy, but he performed Jimi's music very tastefully with a nice light flavor. He actually did get a little grundgy for a minute! Of course, there's nothing like witnessing a legend on stage, and everyone there, who is actually a legend in their own time, seemed honored to be sharing the stage with Billy Cox, original bassman for the Band of Gypsys. Also on board was Stevie Ray Vaughan's drummer, Chris Layton. What a great concert! A must for all guitar players! An extreme pleasure for everyone!

    Experience Hendrix was unbelievable!!

by RaccoonDad on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

One of the best tribute performances I have ever seen!! Far better than expected. Have never seen Purple Haze done on a steel guitar before. Have never seen or heard it done any better except for the original!!

    Experience Hendrix

by goodwind on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

I feel that this show would make Jimi proud. I would have been pleased if it were a typical tribute type of show. However what was delivered was much better. Each artist brought his music into the 21st century, with one exception(Billy Cox/Redhouse).So in the end I personally got much more than I expected!

    Hendrix Experience

by Donna14206 on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

I loved the show! Althought I was a bit disappointed that Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Susan Tedeschi were not part of the line up, they will be when the shows comes back to Buffalo on Nov 15th but I will not be at that one as I can only afford to attend one and not both!

Really disappointed about Kenny Wayne Sheppard not showing up. And our ears were ringing for hours afterward from the excessive volume.

    Hendrix Experience-greet musicians terrible sound

by TAKT on 11/4/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

The Hendrix Experience had the opportunity to be a great listening experience. The musicians were of the highest caliber but the sound man was one of the lowest caliber. You could not appreciate the musicians at their finest due to a sound man that could not handle the mix or the volume level. For the size arena it was way to loud causing it to be distorted and not giving each musician the best opportunity to be heard by their fans. It turned into a bad trip experience due to the sound man
