    Sensational Performances!

by Drum Major Phil on 2/4/19The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - Northridge

The Colburn School Orchestra was as professional a group of musicians, despite all being under thirty and college students, as I have ever heard. Conductor Salonen, competent as always, was clearly impressed by the orchestra's thrilling Till Eulenspiegel and it's memorable Also Sprach Zarathustra. Clarinet virtuoso Christina Mateo Saez brought the packed house to its feet, giving her a huge ovation. Watch out LA Philharmonic: There's a worthy rival just across the street!

    Amazingly evening

Salonen's presence inspired a talented orchestra in memorable performances. Well chosen program gave insights into Straus and the young soloist was perfection.

    A Visual Treat

by robotypist on 2/3/19The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - Northridge

Maestro Salonen always chooses audience favorites for his program; always enjoyable. However, the icing on the cake is to WATCH his dynamic conducting. It's not enough to listen to the music, but to watch the Maestro's "dance" as he conducts. Sorry he left the LA Phil but delighted he will come back yearly.

    SPECTACULAR SALONEN!

by angTIO on 10/8/16Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

Under the baton of Maestro Salonen, the Philharmonia Orchestra, London delivered a world-class performance of epic symphonies... in parts idyllic, mournful, earnest and triumphant. Turning a one-off engagement at VPAC into a once-in-a-lifetime event, Salonen was simply spectacular!
