About

Eric Hutchinson in Concert

Eric Hutchinson's soulful, hopeful pop has been wowing audiences since he independently released his breakthrough album Sounds Like This in 2007. Propelled by instantly hummable singles like "Rock and Roll" and "OK, It's Alright With Me," ‘Sounds Like This' set iTunes Store records for independent artists and made him a household name. In the years that followed, the Maryland-born, Boston-launched crooner contributed songs to ‘Grey's Anatomy' and ads for Microsoft's Windows 10, and he toured endlessly, sharing bills with high-wattage artists like inaugural ‘American Idol' Kelly Clarkson and emo-pop act Jack's Mannequin.

After embarking on a much-deserved hiatus from touring in 2016, Hutchinson felt refreshed. He and his longtime touring band The Believers reconvened to make ‘Modern Happiness'—this was the first time he brought The Believers, who fill out his powerpop vision with rich harmonies and amp up his already-high energy quotient onstage, into the studio. The band proved to be perfect foils for Hutchinson as he worked on his fifth album, helping him fill in the gaps of songs like the Beatles-esque "She Could Be the One" with their vocal and instrumental contributions while also letting him work on new music that was marked by lyrical honesty about life, love, and what it truly means to be "happy."

Hutchinson began rolling out songs from ‘Modern Happiness' in January 2018—one a month leading up to its October release. In September he branched out into gaming, using his extensive musical knowledge and concert-honed party-starting skills to ‘Songversations,' a card game designed to get people talking about why they love the music they love.

Love for music is a big part of why Eric Hutchinson remains a great live draw. He has a strong rapport with his band and an even more unbreakable bond with his fans, and his musical growth on ‘Modern Happiness' will only strengthen those two links.

    Good show, great venue

    by tbrown4 on 7/13/09Recher Theatre - Towson

I love the Recher. Always have. It's even better now with the new sound system. Eric played a very good, though short set. Clocked in at just over an hour. I'd expect a bit longer of a show for the price of the ticket. Serena Ryder was great as the opener, really enjoyed her set.

    Eric Hutchinson never disappoints!

    by hutchhead22 on 7/13/09Recher Theatre - Towson

Full Disclosure: This was my 9th Eric Hutchinson show in 14 months. I just can't help it. I attend a lot of concerts, in general, but he is, BY FAR, my favorite live act. I have introduced many friends and family (including my parents) to the fantastic experience that is an EHutch show and none have been disappointed. Eric is fabulously entertaining and his music is infectious and fun. I would not (and have not) hesitate to bring anyone (any age, familiar with EH's music or not) to a show.

Eric, Serena, and Matt were awesome!!!

by LKERR on 7/13/09Orpheum - Tampa

Matt opened the show an he rocked. He played all the best songs. Serena tore the house down. She sang acapella and with the guitar. She even gave props to a fan that knew all her lyrics. Eric was phenomenal. This was my second time seeing him in concert and it won't be my last. Even cooler they all stayed behind and signed autographs.

    Eric is amazing!

by Concertfan on 7/12/09Recher Theatre - Towson

This was the second time that I saw Eric Hutchinson and he is such an amazing performer. His songs are great but his personality makes the concert that much more fun. Hes known to make up a new song at every show that kind of makes fun of the surroundings and he does a great cover of Ive got sunshine/remix to ignition. Very fun! The only downfall to this concert was the venue. The Recher theater is very long and if youre too far back it is hard to see and at this particular show there was a screen with pictures constantly going showing previous shows at this venue (past artists) It took from the show b/c it was very distracting.

You Have to See Eric Hutchinson Live

    by jb3dmb on 7/12/09Recher Theatre - Towson

Eric's album is awesome...every song. Seeing and hearing him live is amazing. Even though this was in a tiny, stand-only venue, it was one of the best concerts I've been to. And I've been to many. Even if he played his album note for note it would have been great, but he didn't. He changed things up, got his opening act Serena Ryder (who is also amazing by the way) to join him on a song, threw in bits of other songs into his own (Ignition by R. Kelly, My Girl by The Temptations, Heartless by Kanye West, OPP by Naughty By Nature). He kept all of us on our toes and involved. And his audience was anyone from 15/16 all the way through 40 or so. If you like his album you'll love him live. If you've never heard of him I highly recommend him.

    Eric Rocked the House!

by chipski on 7/12/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

I would definitely go see him again! He put on an amazing show. Syrena Ryder opened with an acoustic set that was super! The Varsity theater is one of the best, most intimate venues in the Mpls area. Eric had high energy and kept the crowd moving. He also related with the audience on many occasions.

had so much fun at this concert. I knew maybe two of his songs but still had a blast dancing and singing. Met the band after and met Serena!

    Erik Hutchinson

by bbbbbbbbbbb on 7/12/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

The show was good, although he seemed pretty sarcastic and not too thrilled to be there. No encore. He played most of the stuff off his album.

    Eric Hutchinson was fun!

by JackJohn on 7/11/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

I don't believe the set list differed much from the last time that I saw Eric Hutchinson, and there wasn't much improvisation in his show, but Eric has great energy, the venue was perfect for his music, and his quirky/kind of dorky personality makes for a fun and entertaining show. He sounded nice live!

    Crowdpleasing Event

    by Jeepbaby54 on 7/11/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

Both Eric & Serena played for the crowd and interacted with the crowd. Two very important things with such a small venue.

    E Hutch was great!

by StuBru on 7/11/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

Eric Hutchinson was a great concert. The music accompanying him was superb,as well as the venue itself. The Varsity Theater continues to amaze me in its ability to bring on any different kind of music show to its doors. If Eric Hutchinson comes to MN again, be sure to see him!
