About

Eric Hutchinson in Concert

Eric Hutchinson's soulful, hopeful pop has been wowing audiences since he independently released his breakthrough album Sounds Like This in 2007. Propelled by instantly hummable singles like "Rock and Roll" and "OK, It's Alright With Me," ‘Sounds Like This' set iTunes Store records for independent artists and made him a household name. In the years that followed, the Maryland-born, Boston-launched crooner contributed songs to ‘Grey's Anatomy' and ads for Microsoft's Windows 10, and he toured endlessly, sharing bills with high-wattage artists like inaugural ‘American Idol' Kelly Clarkson and emo-pop act Jack's Mannequin.

After embarking on a much-deserved hiatus from touring in 2016, Hutchinson felt refreshed. He and his longtime touring band The Believers reconvened to make ‘Modern Happiness'—this was the first time he brought The Believers, who fill out his powerpop vision with rich harmonies and amp up his already-high energy quotient onstage, into the studio. The band proved to be perfect foils for Hutchinson as he worked on his fifth album, helping him fill in the gaps of songs like the Beatles-esque "She Could Be the One" with their vocal and instrumental contributions while also letting him work on new music that was marked by lyrical honesty about life, love, and what it truly means to be "happy."

Hutchinson began rolling out songs from ‘Modern Happiness' in January 2018—one a month leading up to its October release. In September he branched out into gaming, using his extensive musical knowledge and concert-honed party-starting skills to ‘Songversations,' a card game designed to get people talking about why they love the music they love.

Love for music is a big part of why Eric Hutchinson remains a great live draw. He has a strong rapport with his band and an even more unbreakable bond with his fans, and his musical growth on ‘Modern Happiness' will only strengthen those two links.

    Great Show! Highly Recommended!

by Kate405 on 7/16/09Diesel Club Lounge - Pittsburgh

Eric is such a great showman! He has such a great personality when he preforms and kept the crowd laughing through out his whole set! He sounds better live than on cd, if you ever get a chance don't pass it up! His band was very talented musicians and singers that complimented him well. His opener Meiko was awesome as well! I look forward to seeing him blow up in the near future!

VENUE WAS AWFUL...ERIC WAS STILL AWESOME.

by Kstar on 7/16/09Chameleon Club - Lancaster

I was thoroughly unimpressed with the Chameleon Club. Perhaps it was the fact that this was an all ages event and the kiddies had to be home by 10pm. The concert started at 7 and my boyfriend and I were surrounded by kids no older than 15---and none of them seemed to know or appreciate who Eric Hutchinson was. I saw him in Boston at the Roxy in May and he is a FABULOUS entertainer--witty, talented, charismatic. I felt as though the crowd gave him a hard time and couldn't see this side of him, and therefore I was a little disappointed overall with the concert...BUT I STILL LOVE ERIC!!!

    Eric H. was smooth

    by whitefang337 on 7/16/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

I thoght the concert venue was awesome. There was not a ton of people and the music was excellent. If you get there early enough you can get a bar spot which had a great view of the stage. It makes drinking and listening to music very pleasurable.

When can I see them again?

by Hutchhead on 7/16/09Diesel Club Lounge - Pittsburgh

After listening to Eric Hutchinson and Meiko's albums for over a year, and checking to see when they would be in my area, I got the chance to hear them in Pittsburgh. The show was full of a lot of energy and Eric Hutchinson knew how to interact with the crowd. I loved when he invited Meiko to sing "OK is Alright With Me" on stage. It was awesome to have the chance to meet both Eric and Meiko after the show and I can't wait untill they're back in the area again!

This is the third time I have seen Eric and each time he gets better and better. Even if you haven't heard his music, I can guarantee that you'd enjoy his show. Not only can he sing and play - but he's HILARIOUS as well.

    Eric Hutchinson is AMAZING

by Elizlovessomejokes on 7/15/09Pops - Sauget

The show was fantastic. Meiko, the opening act, was to my relief very, very good. I hadn't heard of her previous to the show and was very pleasantly surprised. Then, Eric's part of the show was superb. He sounds just as good live as he does on the album. His mix of piano-rock will keep you dancing and singing along till the very last number. He also threw in a improvised song that was specific to our venue and it was my favorite part of the show!

    An amazing show!!!

by gmbhbls on 7/15/09Pops - Sauget

Eric was very real, down to earth, and personable. He interacted with the crowd quite a bit and was even cool enough to blow off a loud cell phone ringing in the crowd, between his sets, by making a joke out of it and talking to the person on the other end of the line. The musicians supporting him were excellent and they were definitely worthy of being up on stage. They were the ultimate complement to Eric and his music. Check him out! You won't be disappointed!

    Great stage presence

    by Billy999819 on 7/14/09Pops - Sauget

Eric Hutchinson knows how to work a crowd. He starts strong and just keeps going. I am not real sure that he took a break. Meiko, the openner, was awesome too. I never heard of her, but was glad I was introduced. Definately recommend checking Eric out.

    Eric Hutchinson tour kickoff

by pyrson on 7/14/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Tornadoes touched down in the metro Denver area yesterday, but that was nothing compared to the energy at the Bluebird Theater as Eric Hutchinson and the band took the stage last night. Opener, Meiko, seemed a little intimidated by the size of the crowd that showed up but Eric, Jimmy, and Tone seemed to lap up the enthusiasm and turn it into a dynamic show. After banging out the opening "You've Got You" with a little of Kanye's "Heartless" on his new Kurzweil keyboard, he moved immediately into this fan's favorite "Oh" and the classic Oh-off. Even the balcony, whom he can usually catch off guard, came through with a strong chorus. Throughout his set of songs from Sounds Like This, fans got to hear some of his newer music, "Sad Songs" and an even fresher solo from Eric, "In the First Place." And the newest of songs was his improvised "Mile High" song. It was almost too good to believe he hadn't rehearsed it, but the laughter from his band was convincing that this might have been the first time they had heard it too. Regardless, Denverites, who takes great pride in their lung capacity, loved his breathless gasps about an asthmatic needing his inhaler. Finishing out the set with his second single, "OK, It's Alright with Me," Hutchinson then teased the crowd by introducing his famous song heard on radio, TV, internet, even ham radio and covered "My Girl" and "Ignition." Even after finishing the night with "Rock & Roll" the crowd demanded more. Eric explained that that was supposed to be the end of the show but admitted he "could take a hint." As the filming location of the So You Think You Can Dance episode featuring "Breakdown More" the Denver fans were eager for this song in encore. But as the band returned with him on stage, he put down his acoustic guitar and mumbled through the lyrics of "Red Red Wine" encouraging the fans to sing along and prove that nobody really knows all the words to this song. I don’t know why he didn’t go for the slam dunk and play "Breakdown More", but it is just one more reason to go see his next show the next time he is in town. Maybe he will.

    Better Live than on Recording!

by SRose on 7/14/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Eric Hutchinson is a truly talented musician! He is able to command the stage and interact with the crowd in a way that created and incredibly charged atmosphere in the concert hall. For the week after the concert, I couldn't listen to any of his music on my computer or iPod because it sounded flat and boring in comparison to his dynamic performance! Meiko was also fun to listen to. She has an interesting stage persona and her music is catchy. THe songs are very short though. I would recommend buying her CD so that you can get a better feel for her music. However, when listening to the CD all the way through, every song sounds the same. But separately, she has some really good songs!
