  • Great show

The local band playing called Aether Realm was really good (and had a great sense of humor) they were there to headbang and have fun. Barren Earth weren't too great, also didn't help that the vocalist was whining about having a bad time on the tour and then left the stage in the middle of their last song as the rest of the band stayed to finish the song. The rest of the band seemed cool and were having a good time, though I guess the drummer hated it so much that he left the tour early since Finntroll's drummer was filling in. The bassist was hilarious, he looked like he was making love to his bass the whole time he was playing. Rotten Sound came up after, they knew how to get the excited and sounded great. Ensiferum, being one of my absolute favorite bands, sounded kind of disappointing live. Finntroll, on the other hand, sounded great live and were a lot of fun. Got even better when Finntroll came back on with members from Barren Earth and were just having a great time on stage. A fun show for anyone.

Amazing bands in a great small venue. Hadn't ever been to Jaxx but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound. If you like Finnish metal and haven't heard of Ensiferum or Finntroll you are missing out.

  • Bands Good, Venue could do better

I've been a patron of Jaxx for a few years now and I've always had a problem with their sound. It always seems like the vocals, keyboards, and some midtones are washed out by an overpowering bass. I thought it was just me until my friends mentioned the same thing. If you're able to, I would recommend seeing bands in Philly at the Trocadero. The bands themselves are spot on and put a damn good show. Finntroll played a newer set made up of mostly songs from Nifelvind. Ensiferum play a variety of songs spanning their discography including some new ones they haven't played on their last two tours.
