Emmett Cohen was fantastic, enthusiastic as always. And what a great surprise, Pacquito D'Rivera, the previous night's headliner sat in for several songs. Emmett's joy is infectious.
Saw Emmet Cohen, Kyle Poole and Philip Norris at the Rialto in Tucson for the Jazz Festival. Paquito d'Rivera crashed the party. It was an incredible and inspiring concert. They are not only some of the most talented jazz musicians playing today, they clearly love playing together. It is infectious! The Rialto still needs some more TLC, as the seats are still uncomfortable and the lobby a bit tired and uninviting. But... The sound has improved so much since the early days. The acoustics for this concert were stellar. (We were in the center lower balcony). I was a bit hesitant to go, as the last time I saw a band there, the sound was horrid. I will put it back on my list of cool venues and suffer the seats to see some good music.
Emmet Cohen is a great jazz piano musician with a wide range of styles and technique. He has a nice stage presence, upbeat and respectful of the music and his audience. His backup musicians, including his fabulous drummer, are fun to listen to and to watch. Guest star Paquito de Rivera added to the enjoyment of the show.

Excellent music, excellent bassist and drummer! Would have been happy with the trio but totally enjoyed the surprise visit of trumpeter from Pittsburgh!!
Emmet Cohen always brings together the most amazing artists of our time. This is my second time seeing him live and we follow Emmet's Place regularly. Kyle Poole is simply a joy to watch perform. The guests at the Tucson show were first rate. Love watching so much young talent in action!
What a great concert with Emmet and his trio. They were all fantastic! I love the joy Emmet expresses and the others follow suit.
Emmet Cohen and his trio were absolutely superb. Tremendous energy and deft musicianship. If you get a chance to hear them at a venue near you, by all means don't miss it.
