About

Elvis Costello is a writer and part-time musician who made a number of records in the 20th Century, some of which are still remembered today.

He was born in London and raised there and in Liverpool.

Costello is the composer or lyricist of over six hundred published titles, including fifteen songs co-written with Paul McCartney and renowned collaborations with Allen Toussaint, the Brodsky Quartet and T Bone Burnett.

Costello's songwriting alliance with Burt Bacharach, began in 1995 with the song, "God Give Me Strength", which led to the 1998 album, "Painted From Memory", before their work was collected in 2023, on the four-album set, "The Songs Of Bacharach & Costello".

Elvis Costello songs have been recorded by Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Chet Baker, Dusty Springfield, Solomon Burke, George Jones, Linda Ronstadt and Bjork, while among the artists with whom he has written songs are Loretta Lynn, Carole King, Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson and his wife, Diana Krall.

Working purely as a lyricist, Costello has provided words for the music of Billy Strayhorn, Oscar Peterson and for twelve Charles Mingus compositions and as a composer, set twelve unpublished lyrics by Bob Dylan.

2024 will see the opening of "A Face In The Crowd", Sarah Ruhl's stage adaptation of the Budd Schulberg story for which Elvis Costello composed the songs.

"A Face In The Crowd" will open at the Young Vic in London on INSERT DATE, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and produced by Adam Kenwright.

Elvis Costello is the author of "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink", a more than six-hundred page memoir which has been translated into six languages. He has received a range of awards over his 45 year old career of which the induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is probably the most significant.

Although he holds two honorary doctorates in music - one from the University of Liverpool and another from the New England Conservatory- Elvis Costello is known for playing the guitar with almost no regard for common sense.

Costello currently performs with The Imposters; his long time companions, drummer, Pete Thomas and pianist, Steve Nieve, bassist of twenty-three years standing, Davey Faragher and their special guest, Texas guitarist, Charlie Sexton.

  • Elvis Costello is still in the building.

by Wavey Davey on 1/28/24Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis, the Costello one, still has it! Very entertaining performance and dialog. Loved the highland kilt and garb. I knew 7 of the songs but liked all of them. Charlie Sexton was great on guitar but didn’t realize Elvis was such a good guitarist. The Uptown Theater in KC was a nice venue with good sound.

by Marnie D on 1/26/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Show was SO great and this venue is amazing. It was our first time at the Majestic and we were blown away. It's beautiful and the acoustics are awesome. Elvis put on a fantastic show with a really wide array of tunes. I hadn't seen him since 1983! He's still got it!

  • Elvis has still got and then some!

by CoCoT on 1/23/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

What a wonderful concert. Loved the selection of tunes and the encore was THE BEST-- Allison and Peace Love and Understanding. The Majestic is also a great venue-sound and visuals were great!

As always, Elvis didn't disappoint. Amazing show and love hearing him at the Majestic.

  • Beyond my expectations!

by Dawnzer on 1/23/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Totally blown away. I mean I have always loved Elvis Costello. I'm an old fan. So I expected it to be great. But Elvis and Charlie Sexton, as well as everyone on that stage, exuded such passion and talent it was a legit profound experience! They surprised me with their interesting arrangements, playlist, and Elvis' commentary. True, there were a few old favorites I had hoped Elvis would perform, but in the end I did not miss them because the songs he did perform were masterful, entertaining and over the top!

  • Great show

Elvis still has it. Great band with Texas legend Charlie Sexton.

  • Elvis is King

Great show - he never stops inventing and giving maximum entertainment.

  • Sad and confused show

by BrianJ on 1/23/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 1 out of 5

Love Elvis but him and his band were totally out of sync. Quality musicians and seems like Elvis did everything to confuse them. He wandered thru his favorites and only a few of mine. I’ll never go see him again. $100/ticket and I walked out at 1-hour

  • Great Show

by Jesse on 1/23/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

First let me say that we had a great time. Elvis and his band were great and adding Charlie Sexton to the band on lead guitar and vocals was a big win. That said Elvis is 69 years old and his voice is not what it was in his 20s. If you are expecting to hear him sounding like it's 1978, this may not be the show for you. If you love Elvis and the music, I predict you will love the show.

  • Unique and iconic

    by D.R. on 1/22/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Backed by an excellent lineup of musicians, including great guitarist Charlie Sexton, Elvis Costello easily commanded the stage and captivated the audience. With a huge catalog of hits, he included a surprising number of lesser-known songs and covers. He also did some new arrangements of well-known songs. His storytelling and stage banter especially enhanced the experience. I was immersed from the first note through the final encore. It was a remarkable show with an iconic songwriter.

  • Nice to see a living legend!

by Dutch on 1/22/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the evening! Sorry he did not play “She” or throw in any songs from the Burt Bacharach cd. I can honestly say I did not know one song he played. His talent is obvious!

  • Great show

by Curtis on 1/22/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The show was excellent. They played a good combination of old and new songs, and I had an excellent time.

  • Awesome story telling

by Ed Pudd on 1/22/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis gave us some back stories to how he came about writing certain songs he played in the concert. His vocals were on point and Chalie Sexton on lead guitar was exceptional. The back stories made the concert one of the best ever.

  • A Master of All Genres

by Brian on 1/22/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I became a fan of Elvis Costello in the late 70’s with My Aim is True, and have remained one over the years. He was considered New Wave at the time. He was great from the start but he has continued to grow as an artist and can play any style and has done records in blues, jazz, rockabilly and such. This show was fantastic, he did many of his older songs in a completely different speed, rhythm, and style from the original and showed his mastery to brilliant effect! His introductions were funny, self-deprecating, sometimes moving and were tailored to the crowd expected at a Texas venue. We came from Louisiana and really felt privileged to be there to see him. He didn’t play all my favorites (there are too many great ones!) but i can say that I enjoyed every song, even a few that i didn’t recognize. One of my top shows of all time, and I’ve seen many in my 55 years of going to live shows! Bravo!

  • Elvis was exciting

by Tdc4058 on 1/22/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis Costello took the stage and took control of his performance. He sang a great variety of songs, old and new. And I was extremely impressed with this energy, voice, showmanship and even his snarky attitude at times! Loved every minute of it!!!

  • Great show

Great show. Well organized venue. I recommend buying VIP seats to avoid standing for 3+ hours.
