Edmonton Oilers History
The origin of the Oilers goes back to 1972, when they were one of the founding franchises of the World Hockey Association. Once the league folded in 1979, they were one of four teams absorbed into the National Hockey League. It didn't take long for them to establish dominance in the league, reeling off five Stanley Cup Championships in seven years. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most championships since the NHL-WHA merger.
The Oilers of the '80s were a phenomenal dynasty with a roster that reads like the Hockey Hall of Fame: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, plus a stellar supporting cast. Gretzky scored 92 goals in 1982, breaking Phil Esposito’s record for number of goals in a single season. He also recorded a record 215 points in 1985. During his time with the Oilers as center and team captain, Gretzky led the team to four Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988). By the time Gretzky finished his time with the Oilers, he held or shared a total of 49 NHL records.
In all, the Edmonton Oilers have appeared in the Stanley Cup Final eight times.

Awesome game and getting autographs after was super cool, loved it
Hockey game was great, trying to get a cab in Edmonton is a failure, waited outside Rexall place for more than 1 hour, there were no cabs to be seen. Thank you City of Edmonton for a supreme screw up, the worst experience ever, took 2 1/2 hours to get home.
Friendly, easy, and just an electrifying time! The seat location was more than we expected. Great time.
What a great game! Good to see the home team crush their opponent and end their losing streak!
They won the game for my birthday!! Great job, great game!
Very good hockey! Exciting game. Great to see all the new rookie players!
Nice time for a hockey game at 12:00 noon, however the OIlers didn't put in much of an effort.
Overall experience was enjoyable. Seats were well located, staff was polite and when needed for assistance were able to provide it. Entertainment was end to end for the most part throughout the game. Would recommend this venue to others in the future. only downside would have to be demand for parking which if not arrived early will have a nice walk to reach the building.....
Good experience. Help with the ticket being half price
This was my first NHL game. I have been to several Milwaukee Admirals games (AHL) and there were a lot of differences between this game and the Admirals games. Not sure if it was because it was NHL, Rexall Place, or the Oilers themselves. But it was a fairly enjoyable game. I was there while visiting Edmonton on vacation, though I was sort of rooting for Minnesota, since they're the closest team to where I live. Wild won 4-2. The Oilers aren't horrible, but they struggled last year, and they are struggling this year. What I observed at this game was that the Oilers were horrible at passing. Everyone wanted to take a shot on goal if they got the puck, which doesn't work in team sports with interchangeable offense and defense.
I was on vacation in Edmonton with my kids. Great to see the Ducks on an away game, couldn't have been a better ending to our vacation. Ducks won 3-2 TERRIFIC!!!!!! Thanks!!
It was a pretty decent game but not all that exciting. The first period was fun with 3 goals and a fight. But not too much happened after that. Tough to complain when you win though :)
Great to see a hockey game in Canada. I was a little disappointed in the Wings play for the first half of the game. The Oilers looked great. I really thought it was going to be a good ole whooping for the Wings. They finally came to life in the 2nd period, tied it up in the 3rd. We went to overtime and a shoot out. I have never seen one live. It was great. Rexall Place is a very nice rink to watch a game. The place is clean and the fans are friendly.
Heart attack city!! But an exciting game to watch. At least the boys pulled it off in the end.
