Edmonton Oilers History

The origin of the Oilers goes back to 1972, when they were one of the founding franchises of the World Hockey Association. Once the league folded in 1979, they were one of four teams absorbed into the National Hockey League. It didn't take long for them to establish dominance in the league, reeling off five Stanley Cup Championships in seven years. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most championships since the NHL-WHA merger.

The Oilers of the '80s were a phenomenal dynasty with a roster that reads like the Hockey Hall of Fame: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, plus a stellar supporting cast. Gretzky scored 92 goals in 1982, breaking Phil Esposito’s record for number of goals in a single season. He also recorded a record 215 points in 1985. During his time with the Oilers as center and team captain, Gretzky led the team to four Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988). By the time Gretzky finished his time with the Oilers, he held or shared a total of 49 NHL records.

In all, the Edmonton Oilers have appeared in the Stanley Cup Final eight times.

Red Wings at Oilers..The purchase process was simple, I had never used digitally and found it is very convenient. Had great seats and the outcome of the game was to my liking..as a Red Wings fan.

  • Waste of Money

by HockeyFan on 1/31/23Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

The new Edmonton arena is a horrible fan experience. From the lack of effort given by both teams to the overpriced everything along with nothing to entertain you throughout the commercial breaks or intermissions I recommend no family spend a dollar there. I promise to never go to a game in Edmonton again for as long as I live.

  • Disappointing experience

by Oilfan on 1/28/23Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

Food and Drinks were overpriced and poor selection. Lines were long for food and washrooms. In game entertainment outside of the actual game was boring and un-engaging.

The lights, the noise, the positive mood of the fans. Great experience in the loudest barn in the league! GO OILERS! Can’t wait for a playoff run , to really get Rogers Place rocking!

  • Great game between the Avs & Oilers

    by Keith M on 1/10/23Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoyed the game with my son & grandsons. Our seats had a good view of the entire surface. Great atmosphere that helped us really get into the game. Concession prices are a bit high for my liking!

  • Was great the Canucks kicked butt

by David from BC on 12/26/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the building was a great experience Canucks won

  • Canucks at Oilers

by Daveyboy on 12/26/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The phone app worked well, much to my old brain's relief. I spent a lifetime dealing with paper tickets, so the new technology is a bit intimidating. And the Canucks woke up in the second to make the game a beauty.

  • OILERS BEAT THE HABS

by Skippy on 12/6/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a early game! It was a close game untill the Oilers took over in the 3rd period.Great seats, good friends and most importantly big win against Montreal!!

  • Horrible

by Not a fan on 12/1/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

Seats so small that's fully grown man could not comfortably sit in then. Stuck in front of a family who did not control their children. Basically sat there and had the kids kicking my chair and screaming in my ear for the entire first period when I said enough and left.

  • Awesome

by Berge on 11/22/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing game. Kept us on the edge of our seats. Even tho we were pretty much 4th from the top, we were able to seee everything. Definitely not a bad seat in the stadium.

  • Oilers vs Dallas

by THUNDERKING on 11/8/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The game was overall not good, only because we lost. But I always enjoy being in the building and seeing other fans having the same energy as me! It’s always a great experience and just seeing my favourite players in general makes me excited! Happy to be a oiler fan!

  • Super Hockey

by Performance! on 10/16/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome game in the end! It was a great game to be at. Even with the drunk beside us!!!

  • Oilers Preseason game

by MM on 10/10/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

Terribly expensive from top to bottom. It is impossibly hard as a university student to afford to attend these games, due to the astronomical ticket prices and prices for food and drink. Although every once in a while I may be able to convince myself to use my student loans to afford these tickets, I can not imagine how discouraging it must be for the vast majority of our wonderful hockey-loving Edmonton community members, who can not attend games because they simply do not have the money. It is truly disappointing.

  • Excellent!!!

    by Drock97 on 6/7/22Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The most fun I’ve had watching this exciting group in years!

Amazing game, great hat trick from Kane, with hats flying on the ice. New record in playoffs with 4 assists from Leon Draisaitel. Great atmosphere. Let's go Oilers, Calgary sucks.
