About

What is EchoPark Speedway?

Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.

EchoPark Speedway History

Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.

Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

  • NASCAR IN ATL

by ESSY on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

I HAVE TO GIVE ATL MOTOR SPEEDWAY GET CREDIT!! THERE CAMPING SITES AND RESTROOMS WITH SHOWERS WHERE AWESOME!! THE STAFF AT THE CAMPING SITES WHERE GREAT AS WELL!! MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WAS AT CHAROLETTE AND WE DEALT WITH SOME RUDE PEOPLE BUT ALSO THEY HAD TO BRING IN PORTABLE SHOWERS. WHICH WAS NICE TO AT LEAST GET A SHOWER BUT ATL OR NASCAR REALLY PUT SOME THOUGHT INTO BUILDING THIS TRACK AND ITS FACILITIES. BUT WANTS IMPORTANT IS THE RACE, AT ATL I DON'T THINK THERES A BAD SEAT IN THE PLACE. WE SAT IN ELLIOTT AND HAD AWESOME SEATS!!

This was my first race and it was very good. The weather was perfect and the race was great. We sat in the Petty section, 10 rows up from the track and could see everything!

Great seats and race. I am a huge Jimmie Johnson fan with Kasey Kayne my 2nd favorite driver. Don't know what happened to JJ, but Kasey did great. He was awesome. I only wish he had won, instead of Kurt Bush.

  • Park Carl for Bristol

by Terrypm on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

I hope Nascar with park Cousin Carl for the Bristol race. You can watch the replay and see where he cut his car into the quarter panel of Brad's car with the only intention of causing a wreck. Shame shame on Carl.

  • NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 500

by coolerratt on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

First time to the Atlanta Motor Speedway and enjoyed the race.Had great seats but they try to cram to many people on each bench. Also no big screen tvs from front stretch viewing and could not hear announcer at all, very disappointing to not know what was going on with drivers during the race and lacked the drama of the race. They need to turn up the PA system way up so you can hear the race booth!Traffic in the track ways very easy and out was what was to be expected.Had fun just a little disappointed with the volume the broadcast booth was set to. .

The final 10-20 laps were at half speed. Delaying and diluting the event

People are missing out on a great event. For $78, I took myself, my wife and 2 kids, both are under twelve so they were FREE. Got to watch final nextel cup practice, and the truck race. Atlanta is an amazing track. We sat at the start finish line. Wasn't crowded, hardly any traffic. If you're on a budget and love racing, go to a truck race.

  • Atlanta Motor Speedway

by mommashack on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 3 out of 5

The seating is awful!!! Nothing but benches all the way across no matter where you sit, wich makes it feel like your a bunch of sardines in a can, no room to move; but the event was unbelieveable! Loved it!!

  • Atlanta Race was Awesome!

by heatherinman on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

The race at Atlanta was the best we've seen yet! Great race! Lots of fun and perfect weather! Can't wait to go to the next one! Maybe stay in the hotel this time! Opening band was good and Mark Wills sang the National Anthem better than every single person who performed at a Nascar race in history!

  • First time racing event

by pdrodriguez on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first racing event I had ever been to. Television doesn't do it justice. The feel of the cars going by at those speeds and the smell of the exhaust and tires smoking was something you don't get watching on the best of televisons. Already planning my next race I would like to attend. The people who work this event are helpful and very nice to people. That is saying a lot considering the number of people they have to deal with.

  • AMS

    by fireman131 on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoy ALL NASCAR events. The NASCAR crowd, the carnival type atmosphere, its allFANTASTIC. Atlanta has been one of my favorites for many years. I have to say, it looks like you can see the whole track from every seat. I was somewhat disapointed that there wasn't a "jumbo screen TV." for watching the replays. I was at the end of turn 4 just before the beginning of pit road. AWESOME view. Parking was free, so if anyone attends future races there, don't be had by the paid parking outside of the track. Every AMS employee that I spoke with was friendly and helpful.
