About

What is EchoPark Speedway?

Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.

EchoPark Speedway History

Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.

Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

Bought the tickets for my husband's birthday, which fell on the same day. He got the flu and we gave the tickets to our friends. They loved it. Maybe we will try to go another time. Never been. We were so excited and now so disappointed. Worst birthday he ever had.

  • Racing at AMS is the Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by hansvonhans on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

I love going to AMS every year cause its fun and you can get great seats for cheap. You can also see all the way around the track. The truck race was great. The thing that totally completes the great experiance is getting a scanner so you can hear what the drivers are talking about.

  • The Race was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by hansvonhans on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

I loved it Kasey Kahne was laying the down the best times all day. The only reason he lost the race was because JPM spun his tires. Let Carl go without penalty. Nascar should knew it would happen sooner or later.

  • Overall it was AWESOME!

    by JayPar2007 on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

It was my first time at the ATL motor speedway and the racing was Awesome. Pro's: I was happy to see vendors coming around periodically. I was happy to see people directing us in to the parking areas when we arrived as it made a quicker job of getting into the speedway. And though there were more items available outside the gates for sale I was happy to see we could buy some inside as well. Cons: I was not happy to have the same assistance in leaving the parking lot as we did getting in. They could have not only aided in us getting out of the parking lot but maybe could have prevented some of the drunks from driving out. I was HIGHLY dissappointed in GA State Patrol not seeing the drunks as well as them sitting on their cars as we were fighting to get out instead of waving traffic around as they did coming in? What was the purpose in their presence at the end? I definately think you should warn people to bring their earplugs. I cannot hear a thing from either ear today... lol I also think that there should be some controls on the beverages brought in. Too many people were pouring themselves out of the track and I saw a few fights start up.

  • NASCAR is worth watching again

    by Squints2250 on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the race @ Atlanta. It was a much better race than the Talladega race I attended in October of 2009.

Very boring race. Nascar has taken all of the excitement out of the racing. Go back to what "Stock Car" should be. That is why they are losing their fan base.

  • FINALLY A REAL RACE!

by Cobaltgirl on 3/8/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to see racing get back to its roots. We had wonderful seats and Atlanta is one of our favorite tracks as there are NO bad seats. It was refreshing to see the boys have the freedom to race with their hearts. Nascar has done a great job giving the drivers room to race by lifting some of the restrictions that made racing a monotonous sport for fans to watch. We will be abck in the Fall!
