ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN IN CONCERT:

Formed in the late-'70s wake of punk's first wave, Echo & the Bunnymen forged a unique fusion of post-punk, new wave, and neo-psychedelia that established them as pioneers of a new direction in British rock. Today the band's moody, sophisticated sound is as compelling as ever, and their spellbinding live shows are the perfect place to experience it in the flesh. Whether brooding frontman Ian McCulloch is belting out classics from seminal 1984 album Ocean Rain or performing new material from 2014's Meteorites, Echo & the Bunnymen never fail to mesmerize with muscular musicianship and intense performances on their unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Echo & the Bunnymen formed in Liverpool in 1978, taking their name from a list of nonsensical monikers suggested by a friend. The band made their debut in 1979 with "The Pictures on My Wall", released on the now-legendary Mute Records imprint. Their 1980 album debut Crocodiles was a critical and commercial success, cracking the UK Top 20 and setting the stage for the success of sophomore album Heaven Up Here, which reached the Top 10 in 1981. Their chart run continued in 1983 with third album Porcupine, the vessel for hit singles "The Back of Love" and "The Cutter" and predecessor to the band's landmark 1984 album Ocean Rain, widely considered by critics as the pinnacle of their '80s output. After taking a hiatus between 1993-1996 the band reformed with a vengeance, scoring another Top 10 hit with "Nothing Lasts Forever" and delivering a powerful series of performances on tour. With their 12th studio album Meteorites hitting shelves in 2104, Echo & the Bunnymen have fans eagerly awaiting their next live shows. Previously, Echo & the Bunnymen has sold out venues to capacity, like The Fillmore (Minneapolis) and Fox Theater (Oakland).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Amazing show. Ian's voice has not changed a bit. The band sounds the same as the first time I heard them. Bravo!"

"The Bunnymen did amazing renditions of their albums. The improvisation on Crocodiles brought back many great live memories of Bunnymen past shows."

"It was an amazing show. The band sounded incredible and Ian was very much a dynamic presence. Two complete albums were played, along with encores, so it was definitely a show to remember."

  • E. & the B-men rule!

by Mattthecat on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Great show. Sold out. Made it just in time for the headliners, so I can't comment on opening act. Ian's voice was great (even though he smoked on stage!) The band was tight. Only drawbacks: there was a problem with the lighting gear so you couldn't see very well. Also, some of Ian's monologues (nearly impossible to understand) went on too long. But all in all, one of the best shows I've been to in a while.

  • Ian Rox!

by sandooozie on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Echo and the Bunnymen ROCKED the Paradise! Energy level was high and stayed up the entire show - played for over two hours, went by too quickly. I enjoy seeing The Bunnymen at local venue's - just a little more intimate than large arenas. My only disappointment was that after the house was mostly cleared out, that the Bunnymen did not come out and hang with some of their fans and make it a "Top Notch Nite". Lookin forward to hopefully seeing them come around the area again soon!

  • Bizarre Echo show

by Picklefish on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Although the band sounded great, I can't say how they looked because Ian McColloch refused to turn the lights on. That's right: they performed in near-total darkness. The Echo frontman further alienated his fans by deliberately speaking unintelligably when he addressed the audience. What little I could make out sounded like insults to me. A bizarre and exasperating show. I walked out well before the end.

  • 25 Years and Worth the Wait!

    by colcat65 on 4/27/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

I have been listening to Echo and the Bunnymen for 25 years and FINALLY got to see them live. They did not disappoint! Ian McCulloch is brilliant! and always has the best talent around him. Thank you again for an unforgettable show!

  • Echo dug deep into the past and played with soul.

by TheCutter on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Mac's pipes ain't what they used to be but he's held up well. He's aged very little from 1997 (the last time I saw them) to now - whereas the difference between the mid-80s and mid-90s was stark. He certainly picked the elements of his back catalog that hold the most meaning for his core fans. The songs from Porcupine and Crocodiles were dark and deep and struck the right chords. Songs like Seven Seas and Never Stop, meanwhile, were uplifting and still feel optimistic. Ian is a bit of a porcupine himself, he shouldn't get so vibed by the goings-on in the audience, but it's that emotive quality, I suppose, that's made him a great songwriter and still a strong live performer. Oh, props to Will Sergeant and the rest of the band, too. Tight.

  • Ban those stinking cell phone cameras!

by droveupfrompedro on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I had fun at the Echo & the Bunnymen show. They played for a long time and sounded good. I would definitely see them again but the constant flashing of people's cell phone cameras was so distracting it's made me rethink attending the Buzzcocks show next month. I think Ian, the singer, was equally annoyed by the nonstop flashing because he made frequent comments about it. Audiences at shows are beginning to remind me of tourists who are so busy taking pictures they forget to enjoy themselves in the present.

  • Echo was awful

    by DuncanC66 on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Band decided not to turn the lights on for the entire show. When people complained lead singer (Ian) went into a tirade. Spent several songs talking and babbling incoherantly. This was one of the worst shows I have ever seen.

  • Best. Show. Ever.

Great music, Hillarious rambling! Super fun night!

  • Great as ever!

Echo and The Bunnymen sounded awesome. Lame crowd, but the band still showed some energy.

  • Solid

    by PC24 on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Not spectacular, but for fans of the band you will have a great time. The music is really tight and Ian can still hit the notes when he wants to.

  • Echo and the Bunnymen

by Orus on 4/27/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Awful concert. Ian McCulloch has lost the voice, apparently can not stand the flashing lights, so he kept complaining, and it was dark and impossible to see anything. It looks like Echo and the Bunnymen are poorly ageing and probably should retire

  • Thanks for touring again.

Must see and hear. Great vocals and guitars. They like it dark. Over 2 hours long.

Great show. Been a fan of The Bunnymen since the 80's. First time seeing them live. Will see them again. Keswick Theatre is a good venue. Alcohol is served for 21 and over. Parking is bad. Street parking only that I know of, but free parking after 8pm.

  • by Anonymous on 4/26/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

Wasn't sure what to expect, but the venue (Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA) was cool and the sound and lighting was excellent. Ian sounded much better than what I expected, in fact he sounded awesome, and put in some time joking with the smallish crowd and came out for an extended encore. Definitely would see them again and would recommend it to any fan of EATB.

  • Echo - worth the wait

by SMSQ on 4/26/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

It is always chancy to attend a show featuring one of your long standing musical influences. You know - the groups whose seduction created your own personal obsession. OK - call me a cynic but disappointment can often follow. We have all been there. Not so with this show. Echo was gold! The musicians were tight, really tight. None of the apathy that one sometimes sees after the hundreth rendition of the same songs. The atmosphere electric, the guys evoked uberfire, and they got it. Other than some loose and perhaps ill concieved covers during the final moments I left fully satisified. And I mean fully, rapturously satisfied. BTW somehow the tour T-shirts were lost and not avalible in Cleveland - anyone with info on how I can get a hold of one. Thanks

  • ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN KICK IT AGAIN!

    by TAZISGREAT69 on 4/26/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

THE SHOW WAS GREAT, PER USUAL, BUT HAD THE ADDED FEATURE OF IAN'S PERSONALITY. NORMALLY HE'S MUCH MORE RESERVED AND BROODY. LAST NIGHT HE WAS AUDIENCE-INTERACTIVE AND FUN! THEY PLAYED SOME OLD-TIME HITS I'D NEVER HEARD IN CONCERT & ENOUGH OF THE NEW ONES TO MAKE ME NEED THE ALBUM

  • Echo and the Bunnymen

    by laurie3655 on 4/26/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 3 out of 5

The music was good, but there was an extra long time between the opening act and EATB. They did not come onstage until around 9:30 pm after about a 45 minute wait (the stage crew had everything set up way in advance) Unfortunately, because they started so late I was not able to stay to watch the entire show since I live over one hour away from the Keswick Theatre.

  • Bunnymen show was top notch!

by Bunnyman234 on 4/24/10The Phoenix Concert Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Mac and Will and the boys rocked the Pheonix friday night. Made the trek from Detroit and it was worthwhile for sure. It was a greatest hits fest with one new tune thrown in. Mcullochs voice was strong and the backing band spot on. The crowd was riveted and spirited throughout and it may have been near capacity but the balcony was not open. Nice nod to Macs favorite influences such as the doors, Bowie, velvets, and others in during the gig. Not a lot of surprises on this tour but a strong showing overall.

  • echo and the bunnymen were unforgetable

by bobsmom124 on 4/24/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

the show at h. o.b. was quite the performance. hearing a lot of old favorites, bringing back lots of memories while creating a new one.

  • Echo rocked!

by mcfossum on 4/24/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

Kelley Stoltz was the perfect opener - hate to say it but glad the original opener canceled. Echo sounds older and less poppy than in their heyday. Sounded more like Peel Sessions. It was awesome.
