Earth, Wind & Fire in Concert
The word gets thrown around far too frequently these days, but in the case of Earth, Wind & Fire it genuinely applies: This band is legendary. From the mystical elements of their name to their profound and lasting influence on contemporary pop music to their litany of hits spanning the latter decades of the 20th century, EWF have achieved status beyond the merely mortal. Even with the passing of founder and lead vocalist Maurice White in 2016 the group live on, bringing their uplifting, body-moving blend of R&B, funk, disco, pop, and jazz to several generations of fans.
Their latest tour begins when EWF headline opening day of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest in a massive party for the iconic festival's 50th anniversary. From there, EWF travel across the U.S. and Canada, performing at amphitheaters and arenas from coast to coast and wrapping up with a pair of shows at the scenic Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery outside Seattle.
The crew is 11 members strong and includes original members Philip Bailey on vocals and percussion, Verdine White on bass and vocals, and Ralph Johnson on drums and vocals, plus a three-piece horn section and a host of young, talented players. Their stage show remains potent, featuring sophisticated group choreography, stunning instrumental interplay, and eye-popping visuals. You very well might not sit down.
Earth Wind & Fire Background
The Earth, Wind & Fire story begins with Maurice White. As a kid growing up in Memphis in the 1950s, White went to school with a young Booker T. Jones, and the two began performing their first tunes together. White moved to Chicago for college and fell in with an Afrocentric artistic crowd, playing as a session drummer for Chess Records and performing at the South Side's Afro-Arts Theater with a funk group called The Pharaohs.
His musical ambitions took him to Los Angeles, where he put together a band that included his brother Verdine on bass plus a few more Chicago transplants as well as local phenoms. Earth, Wind & Fire began releasing acclaimed albums from the start, but it wasn't until the mid-'70s that they charted their first hits, No. 1s like "Shining Star," "Getaway," and "September."
Over the years, they've won four Grammys out of 12 nominations, including a 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award, and the band's lineup has changed but their sound has never wavered. After five decades of soulful music, Earth, Wind & Fire's message of peace, unity, and celebration is now more necessary than ever.

The two bands are amazing - together they can keep you on your feet for many hours! Loved it!
Even after all the miles and doing it night after night neither Chicago nor Earth Wind and Fire have lost the drive and the love for performing. Great acts and great work. They both show great love and respect for the fans and their music.
A must-not-miss event. The musical arrangements and choreography were wonderful. Lots of high energy, synergy and memories. You could feel that both groups truly enjoyed entertaining.
super! Excellent performance. I will pay to see a concert like that again.
Earth, Wind and Fire certified that they are the "badest" band in the land. I never experienced a group that had so many songs that are recognizable by such a crossover audience. There unique sound will last forever. The alternating of songs between EWF and Chicago was very impressive and unique.
It was great to see the 2 band collaborating together. Very professional. Would have liked more of the funky songs from E,W, & F. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it.
My husband and I had a wonderful time we enjoyed both bands. Growing up on the music the concert brought us down memory lane.
After all these years, both groups still got it. When you think of either group, you think of Horns and Maurice White, Phillip Bailey, and Mr. bouncing( never stopping Verdine White ) combine the horns and vocals, and we had a great time. Loved the show, would recommend it to every fan of either group. Guys, keep up the good work. Ole skool! sho u right!
Earth, Wind & Fire exceeded my expectations--energy, sound, everything. I would have given them 5 stars. I would only give Chicago 3 stars--music was great, but Robert Lam did not sing as much as he normally does--everyone else in the band did and it was not good. "The trumpet player wrote this song and so we're going to let him sing it." This was my 3rd and last time seeing Chicago. The bands are a great mix and do an outstanding job covering each other's songs.
This concert was awesome. Both acts kept the crowd going. The combined sets were fun to watch. I would definitely would recommend this concert to everyone.
outstanding, I was a little disappointed in Chicago's energy but EW&F picked em up and turned em around. Great Show
This was my first time seeing this group perform live. They put on one hell of a performance!!
After decades of performing together, they still got "it"! Whatever "it" is, Earth, Wind and Fire definitely possess "it"! Their stage presence was captivating! I was on my feet the entire show, singing the lyrics word for word while mimicking their dance steps! The show was spectacular! Chicago also did great a job!
EW&F was excellent! Chicago was good but played better when paired with EW&F.
This is the 3rd time I have seen EWF. They get better and better. Verizon is the perfect location.
What a show by Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire! Brought back great memories. People of all ages had a great time. My wife and three of our childeren/ young adults ages 22, 21 and 17 had a blast! Music for all ages. The Amphitheater at The Wharf was a great setting. We will definitely go back for future concerts at The Wharf!
Was one of the best shows i've seen this year!!! Iwould travel to see this show again.
Great show. I loved the old music and they did a great job.
While Earth, Wind & Fire was performing the audience was up on their feet. They were AWESOME!!! We left 20 minutes into the Chicago part of the concert. A LOT of other people left at the same time. Not very good music coming from Chicago anymore! :( I would go back to see Earth, Wind and Fire in a heart beat!!
Excellent show, everyone seemed to be having a great time. It was so awesome to see both groups perform together as well as seperately. Only downfall was for the first 30 - 45 minutes of the show the acoustics were bad.
