Raised on the Bakersfield honky tonk of Buck Owens and traditional country like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, Dwight Yoakam has created more than a dozen studio albums of his own self-described hillbilly music over nearly four decades. On his 2012 collection, “3 Pears,” the Kentucky-born performer reached out to Kid Rock and Ashley Monroe of Pistol Annies for co-writing help on a couple songs, while Beck co-produced the successful set.
Ticket buyers know a slew of Yoakam singles when they head to his concerts — from the chart-topping “Guitars Cadillacs” from the similarly-titled 1986 debut and “I Sang Dixie” off of 1988’s “Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room” to 1993’s “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere.” And when he’s not on the tour bus canvassing the nation, the singer/songwriter may be on a movie set. His acting credits include critically acclaimed roles as an abusive boyfriend in “Sling Blade” and a psychopath killer in “Panic Room.”
everything was great for the show. it started off a little rough, we had seats 2 rows back,front and center. however the fans that were from the back decided to get infront of us. it took the police quit awhile to get the crowd under control, so it ruined quite a few songs that we could not see and enjoy the show.
Show was excellent - Dwight that is. . . . Abby Abonganza was not so "up to par".
it was nice to have the show so close,it was easy to get to.
The show was Great, good weather, good country music. The only thing that could have been better was the seating at Wheeling Downs, you were setting to close to each other. If some one was large and set in front of you. you couldn't see, but we stood up most the time, clapping, singing and having fun. To bad Dwight wouldn't sign autographs, that was to bad. My son and his wife were also there and wanted autographs, they are a young couple, not many young ones in to country music, so it would have been nice if he signed a autograph for them. We left are vacation trip to the beach just to come back early and see Dwight.
Dwight put on a great show! He did not stop moving.
THIS WAS THE FIRST OUTDOOR CONCERT WHEELING ISLAND HAD AND IT WAS GREAT.DWIGHT YOAKAM EVEN PLAYED ANOTHER SET.
THE ENTIRE CONCERT WAS GREAT. I HAVE SEEN DWIGHT ABOUT 7 TIMES, AND HE GETS BETTER AND BETER EACH TIME. WE HAD WONDERFUL SEATS, AND THE PRICE OF THE TICKET WAS NOT TO EXPENSIVE. PERFECT LOCATION NEXT TO CASINO, SO WE WENT THERE AFTERWARDS. ALL IN ALL AN AWSOME NIGHT.!!!!!!!!
My husband and I went to see Dwight Yoakam @ Wheeling Island Stadium on June 12, 2009, which was our 5th anniversary. I had never seen Dwight 's show before, it was an awesome show. When you go I suggest you don't blink, or you will miss something great.
Dwight Yokam was awesome at Island Stadium. I would definetly go see another concert there.
I’m not typically a fan of country, but my fiancé is. I enjoyed the show very much. For an outdoor concert, the sound was very clear, the seating comfortable and the there wasn’t a bad seat in the house. Dwight, along with his band have such great talent. Even if one is not a big fan of country, you can’t deny these individuals are very talented! Sincerely, Frank
For Wheeling Island this was a great venue and artist. Don't know what would have happened IF the weather wasn't perfect, but it was so no big deal.
I have seen Dwight Yoakum 7 times now and love him now just as much as the first time. He always sounds the same and he sings all his biggest hits. I always wish he would sing longer. There's always a great crowd that knows all of his songs. The venue was great, although parking was an issue (nothing new there). Can't wait to see him again.
Dwight was great!!! Did old stuff of his own and some oldies from other country stars...the show was definately a 5 star performance.. Thanks for bringing him to Wheeling Island
Beautiful night to see Dwight in concert at Wheeling Stadium. We had 8th row seats. Dwight and band were tight......every song, every note was right on. The crowd was on it 's feet most of the evening. Dwight made everyone feel right at home. What a memorable night!
The entire performance was amazing! Dwight Yokum definitely exceeded my expectations!! If the stadium allowed drinks inside, the show probably would have been more rowdy and country, but even without alcohol, Dwight was very memorable!!!!
Dwight was sensational as always, but the sound system in Wheeling stadium was not great.
When doing a Buck Owens tune, Dwight is as close to Hank Senior as you will ever hear. The band was tight, sound was mixed very well for an outdoor show. Closed the set with a raucous Fast as You. Fine perfomance.
The concert was great!! He played for 2 1/2 hours non stop. My boyfriend and I loved every minute of it!
I have been to many Dwight Yoakam concerts and this was by far his best one. Enjoyed it very much.
Dwight Yoakam continues to entertain in a style unlike all the "bubble gum country stars" that are continuously played on country stations on the radio. A bit of Buck, Willie, Chet Atkins, George Jones, Jerry Lee, Merle and Waylon. A true artist, and that's just the music, let's not even mention the moves, the look, the boots and the jeans.... The venue, not so great! Who ever heard of sitting down at a Yoakam event? For $125.00 for our seats (each) I would think the rules would have allowed for a bit of honky tonk dancing right up at the stage. The Casino Security was much too strict, I'll be waiting to see Dwight at the Gorge again, or outside at the Skagit, but never again will I give my money to the Snoqualmie Casino.
