What a great show!! Wish I could go again tonight.

by MarinHippie on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

I was really impressed by the band. Very tight. Smoking hot. Everyone in the band was very good at what they did. The only thing I could say that is not completely positive is the sound had too much bass. Otherwise it was perfect. Good song selections, good singing, cool video of Frank playing. The whole thing was quite a treat.

Music was Amazing but Venue sucks

by Frunobulaxpoodle on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

I am arthritic and use a cane. I have been to half a dozen shows . But at the Warfield you have to stand up and be crushed toward the stage unless you reserve seats in the back or go to the balcony. I spent $ 334.15 to take my friends and being crushed like sardines into the stage is not our idea of a good time besides making all my weight bearing joints hurt from the ordeal. I hope they come to the Rio in Santa Cruz again where I can sit close and enjoy.

    Apostrophe

by Mulatto on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

Got to see Zappa plays Zappa the other night at the Warfield Theater. My third time seeing ZPZ and my first taking my daughter... her first exposure to Zappa music. Needless to say, we had a great time. Her quote; "I couldn't focus on any one musician because they were all soooooo good." Need I say more? Go see this show... it's worth it.

by tinoshi on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

Dweezil and the band were simply amazing. If you are a Zappa fan, you have to see them. No one else in the world could play these songs but Dweezil. You gotta be a Zappa to play Zappa, that's it. Amazing.

    Thank you so much

by iLikeDirt on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

WOW! I cannot express how much fun I had at this show. The performance was literally, the best I have ever seen. I bought tickets to this show for my father and myself. He has been a Frank Zappa fan since the early 70's and I have been a fan for about the past few years. It was definitely something special because he was somewhat able to "travel back in time" and I was able to experience some of the greatest music the 20th century saw. Dweezil was MUCH better at guitar than I thought he would be, because let's be honest, he was up on stage trying to fill some pretty BIG shoes and he did a phenomenal job at it. The whole band was amazing and you got the feeling that they were enjoying themselves as much as we were. Honestly the best concert I've been to. I may only be 21 but I have been to quite a few concerts so my previous statement is not one to be ignored. I very rarely say that about a concert, in fact Im kind of hard to impress when it comes to live performances. ZPZ met and exceeded my expectations and they definitely have me as a fan and will gladly attend any concert of theirs that I can. Again, thank you so much guys. You're the best!

A memorable show with great performances by young Zappa and his band. His father would be proud.

    ZPZ awesome music & musicianship

by YaHozna on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

Dweezil Zappa & his very talented group did an EXCELLENT job of his late father's music. I have seen this band in slightly different confrigurations 6 times since 2006. Everytime they do different songs composed by Frank Zappa,do an amazing job of recreating his music to a T. All the while enjoying themselves while playing this technically difficult music. They was video footage of Frank playing his guitar & singing while the band played along. It was very touching to see his son, Dweezil look up to the screen while watching or playing a long. The only downside to me was the seats, stage left second row upper loge. I could not see one of the musicians & part of the video screen was blocked by the speakers hanging from the ceiling. Beside that the sound was very good, vocals clear & I HIGHLY recommend this band.

    Amazing Show!

by jgardiner on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

Wonderful band. Such good energy from the individual players. Scary good musicianship. Loved when he brought a kid up on stage to play his guitar. Dweezil and the Scheila Gonzalez stayed out and signed autographs for quite a long time. That is a rare thing today and was truly appreciated by the audience. Only criticism: it was very loud at times. But nothing a good set of ear-plugs couldn't fix. GREAT SHOW!!! Looking forward to the next one

Zappa plays Zappa -- not so much

by entatty on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

I saw the Mothers and FZ play a few times. The current group is competent but seems to consist mostly of technically skilled hard rock players, presumably from Dweezil's circle. They were lacking in charisma and soul, as will stage presence, things the Zappa band never lacked back in the day. Also the Mothers of Invention were not a jam band, even if their songs went on for some time -- you could always see FZ conducting the band. As a jam band Dweezil and crew were average at best, as interpreters of Zappa average at best.

    Dweezil gets it

by SpaceWrangler on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

First time I've seen the band without a former member of Frank's band(s) performing with them. Love the new singer, he sounds a bit like Frank. If you love Frank Zappa's music, get yourself to one of Dweezil's shows. You'll be glad you did!

Zappa Plays Zappa exceeded expectations. This is the first time I've seen any Zappa in person. No tickets were available by the time I heard they were in town years past. I plan to buy tickets for future shows.

    dweezil was great

by norcalbob on 12/3/10The Warfield - San Francisco

Great show, near perfection as far as the band was concerned. The guy playing the xylophone was off the hook. Ruth would be proud. I do , however missed the old band member influence. The show really needs Ray or Napoleon singing to make it real. I wish Dweezil and Ike Willis could resolve their differences!!! I Need to play, but there's no musicains anymore......
